hoops scoops...fins bills

Incredibly disappointed that Philbin chose to give up at the end of the first half. Basically he told his offense that he doesn't believe in them or trust them. What a great message to send to your players. Green Bay had the exact same scenario in their game with the Jets (and no I'm not comparing RT to A. Rodgers), just the situation. Jets up big and Green Bay with the ball at their own 2 yard line with 2 minutes to play. They go for broke and actually score a TD before the half. If we are going to lose, at least go down swinging for crying out loud.

Is 9 points consideredbeing up big? Did Aaron Rodgers have 7 net yards in the half to that point? Has Aaron Rodgers ever had negative yards in a quarter in his career? Do you really believe Philbin would ever raise the white flag like that if Aaron Rodgers was our QB?

Other than that the situations were very comparable though...

This. So many game-changing plays left out there, missed because the ball is not where it needs to be. I agree, hoops, Tannehill's throwing to a spot. He says to himself, "we've repped this 20 times in practice, so let's do it one more time" and off it goes. Problem is, during the game, the speed, the way the receiver has to redirect, the time he has in the pocket, etc. - all of that is different from practice. The QB has to recognize and adjust - all the great ones do. Tannehill is just not doing it - and I really hope he can fix it, because against D's like the one we just faced, it's absolutely critical.

that's probably what it is...it's just hard for me to believe that he's incapable of adjusting...i mean he has to read db leverage and depth and hips etc to fire all those stop routes etc...but then again i do think i'm seeing some plays where he pretty much fires to a spot blind and the db is closing awfully close to wallace...

maybe it just takes time...problem is he's under a microscope this year...it's a big year for this qb...

hoops never disappoints! great job as always...

remember the ball he overthrew wallace on deep down the sideline by like 5 yards in the dallas preseason game??? that ball was thrown to a spot...but he doesnt seem to be reading his wrs routes that well and anticipating where they are going with the throws this year...much more to a direct spot...it may not be something he's made for...

I brought this up in a couple of other threads, but I think the anticipation bit will improve with time in the offense. Bruce Arians was interviewed by the NY Post and he said that the difference between Carson Palmer throwing guys open with anticipation and being late/off on throws was having 8 games under his belt in the offense.

I do think it will happen, but the question is if it will happen soon enough to matter...

ryan tannehill once again it comes down to execution and this is now 2 weeks that i found the qb subpar in that department...got a perfectly drawn up post route to the middle of the field after clay influenced the safety and wallace has won to the inside of the db down the middle just throw the ball out in front and to the center of the field and it's 6 points...instead he throws the damn ball too far to the outside and underthrown and wallace has to AGAIN slow down for the ball and try to play a game he's not gonna win and go up and fight for a jump ball...awful throw...no way around it...took points off the board

later we call a nice outside inside route with gibson who runs it perfectly 3rd down and 8 i think it was fires the ball over his head wide open after stepping into the throw no less that just can't happen...takes a potential td drive and turns it into a fg one and the first points of the game...poor execution by the qb on a well drawn up play call and we got what we wanted coverage wise...

still later 3rd and 4 i think he's got lamar miller in the flat for a easy catch and conversion flaring to the outside he never sets his feet pretty much executes his footwork like it's a damn screen and a jailbreak rush no less back pedaling the entire way throws the ball high and outside...sorry but that's garbage...what the heck happened to lazor cleaning up the footwork and as a result accuracy getting better we heard all offseason??? i wonder if this throw to a spot stuff has effected his game cause i swear i didn't see him miss like he's missed on easy stuff the last 2 years at this rate...

This is so hard for Tannehill lovers on this site to understand...

It's easy to see how Mike Wallace could have a monster year in this offense.. Should have 4 TDs already, at least. Some miscues from him too I'll admit but he's playing well for us so far, I don't think that can be denied. That TD grab was something I'm not sure we'll ever see from him again.. It was nice. I think he was giving the most effort out there from the WR corps.

Matthews had a disappointing drop on 3rd down at some stage.. Yeah it was high and outside but we've seen him make that grab before, no excuses. Good to see Landry get a lot more snaps too, I think he's the best WR for adjusting to, eh, the misplaced balls Ryan has been throwing.. nice catch radius, and he doesn't mess around with the ball in his hands, runs straight upfield.

I won't even start on Hartline.. How you drop that bomb is beyond me. The game was over by that stage, but it would have been nice to see the offense do something worthwhile and not make it too easy on the bills. I don't see where he fits in on the offense, I really don't. Especially over the cheaper options on the team.. Not a tough receiver, as small a catch radius as Wallace, and offers very little YAC wise. I don't see anything happening during the season, but depending on what happens with the coaching staff he mightn't stay here. We'll see, it's early I guess.

but he's throwing to a spot and i don't see anticipation of where to throw the ball to as much in this offense as in the sherman one...

He's been lacking anticipation for quite some time. It's worse so far this season because now more than ever he's having to throw to spots and he's a QB who's relied too much on the power of his arm to squeeze in throws even when he didn't get them off when he should have.

Aaron Rodgers made a great play to pick up the first down with his legs looking like a human pinball. I don't believe its any coincidence the entire team started playing better after that one play. In that one play he picked up more yards than Tannehill did in an entire half of football.

Contrast that with Tannehill who loses yards on a 4th and 3 on a read option...

QB sets the tone.

Hartline whiffed on the block for that play.. You could see it on the replay he was meant to step in and chip the safety but missed. Result was failed fourth down conversion when we should have seen Tannehill running down the sideline, he had a great angle for the potential TD.

Thats true but it was still one on one at that point. And the defender wanted it more.

any idea who else runs this throw to a spot offense??? i'd like to see what kind of numbers the qb had in the first year in a similar o...philbin said that pass receivers arent getting the right depth on routes also...i dont know how that could excuse the deep ball to wallace or the missed one to gibby though...on the gibby play he's got time for him to pivot back inside and lead him back inside a little even though he's sitting down and he may have scored...would i put it past lamar miller to run routes improperly in the flat??? nah...but the off throws there aren't really any kind of routes to begin with...how hard can they be

Spot on Hoops. Great write up. so much better then having to read Put in Matt Moore, fire Philbin, and cut this guy. Always look forward to your write ups. This week is a huge test. KC is a lot better then there record shows. Put this game behind us and lets move on. Phins UP!!!!

well that sucked...let's get to it

qb held the ball too long on the 3rd sack only one i thought was on him...hughes on the edge loops to the inside ball must come out by then...on the qb...

Dont be ridiculous. He's a young Tom Brady with legs.
