How do we feel about the Pouncey draft pick, 4 months later?

If he is a Probowler just like Long doesn´t matter because Ryan was picked after Long and Dalton and Mallet were picked after Pouncey and for me those names meant hope...

No way I would have drafted Dalton at #15. Sorry, but no. He may turn out to be a very good QB, but no.

What would the point of drafting a QB have been this season? Was Dalton going to come in here with 2 weeks of preparation and beat Chad Henne out for the starting Job? No. This could very well be Sporano last season, spending it on a "Franchise QB" when he might not even be better than the one we have right now would have been extremely stupid imo. If this is my last season, Im trying to fill holes, make smart picks that will improve us now, and try to win as many games as I can..

ever consider your speaking too soon? what do any of us really know?

He asked for an opinion 4 months after the draft. Thats my opinion.

Naturally it will change if our entire line turns into a imprenetrable fortress of awesomeness in which our offensive lineman throw defenders aside using only one hand while flexing the other arm for the crowd at the same time.

And what we know is 4 games worth of information. Thats a quarter of a season. Our starters looked bad, our depth looked bad, and we only had success after the other team benched their first stringers. And lets face it, playing against Carolina and Tampa's defensive lines is hardly like practicing against the Steel Curtain, even if thats how we made them look. Im not looking forward to our offensive line going up against teams with established defensive lines.
So what we know is the positions group is in trouble. They certainly didn't run out onto the field saying "lets suck because we have time!". They ran out, tried to play their best, and got thrown around. Repeatedly.

uh, not very physical? you must not be watching. i got it on tape, rarely did you see pounceys guy getting in and he goes second level as well. always looking for someone to hit.

That was the knock on him coiming out of the draft ...and physicality was the reason why Satele was dumped..

I would have like to have traded back, and gotten someone like Carimi. That's what I said at the time, and it would certainly have been convenient now, because that would mean that Columbo wouldn't be starting for us.

and center position would be what? it works both ways. berger and incog at center. what about LG?

Face it, we face same problems that Indy and NE have. Its tough to find 5 solid guys let along backups.

said it before, say it again. I would have started out drafting many OL. Some early, some late, every year.

The Kid looks solid, once he gets stronger at the POA he has the chance to be special. I love how quick he is and he has a little nasty in him....I'm sure he will be leading screans and sweeps on Monday, getting outside of the Patriots biggs in the middle......I dont really get into where he was drafted (with the new cba rules, no big money to draft picks to kill cap) as long as he is a good player and with work can be special unless they are picked in the top 10.....those guys have to be special.....

It wasn't a sexy pick on the day, but it's looking a solid pick now. It sounds like we have some bigger problems on the O line rather than the rookie. What are your thoughts?

I'd ask this around Week 8 or 9 TBH. Preseason certainly isn't enough of an indicator how Pouncey will perform for the team

really, so his brother good and he is just garbage. please show me some proof that that was his knock. His knock was his snapping at center. We all know this. Now that we know snapping hasnt been really all that bad, we now have to find something else to pick on.

Look, all you have to do is look at his technique. He gets low and has great balance. He is tough and almost always understands what needs to happen on a play in order to move his man to one side or the other. Samson Satele was not as intelligent.

All one has to do is consider his brother. His twin brother who is pro-bowler. They share similar DNA. Ever consider that? Of course not, it means nothing to anyone. Im sorry, people just looking for something to bad mouth this regime cus you want them gone! at all costs.

I don´t take preseason stats into consideration. I´m tired of second or lower round QBs trade up, do something! One of Lebatard rants this season was "We are going to out tough you! 3 jds at a time!" That´s not football anymore.

There's a reason he was drafted the highest of any Center in a million years. Hint: it's not because he's THE best Center prospect in a million years.

I like Pouncey a good deal, but **** my mother, that's just not where you draft that position. They could have traded down, drafted Ingram and then drafted Wisnieski with the ammunition acquired in the trade down. They could have traded down, drafted Camarini and then drafted Wisnieski (a quality RT would look pretty good right now). They could have done all sorts of things.

I would have put Incognito at C, and drafted at least one G. But even assuming no more O Linemen drafted, a vet could have come in and filled in at LG nearly as well as Incognito.

Satele just kept getting run over by the big guys. Pouncy held up well although it was the preseason, too early to tell. We should see when he has to take on the Pats. I think we will all appreciate him more when we see him escorting #22 out in space.

Here is the real knock on Pouncey. He's not been a Center for long. His natural position is Guard. And you just don't drafted a C or G that high.
