Hurricane Irma Only thread

Still here. I've never been through a tornado though. This **** is nerve wrecking.

I slept through one in Kentucky once. The Inn I was staying in was right next to the path of a smaller tornado that blew through.

I went down in the morning wondering why there was a flashlight out side my door and she said "we knocked on your door and trying to get you up to come to the basement."

I told her I was sleeping and then I went outside and was like WTF how did I sleep through that! And that was just barely an F1 slash 2 I can't imagine the damage a large tornado causes.

**** was everywhere, buildings down (tobacco barn, some brick walls etc..) roofing tiles and plywood was all over the place.

The thing is, tornadoes don't bring hurricanes. Hurricanes bring tornadoes plus all the other terrible stuff. Can't really consider them separately in the latter scenario.

Many thanks for the clarification. What little I know about hurricanes has been provided by you guys. Other than the fact that wreck a lot, knew that already.

For those of you getting smacked around by tornadoes (didn't know hurricanes generated those), don't **** around. If you have a basement, get in it. Now. If not, get in the center of you home, preferably in a room with minimal glass. Having dealt with them every year for 47 years, those ****ers are mean and they just drop with little if any warning.

Jesus guys, I am praying for you all. A hurricane is bad enough, but one that spawns tornadoes is horrible.

Close to 20 years ago we had an F5 less than a quater mile from our house in the middle of the night. Craziest thing I've ever been through. Absolutely sounds like a freight train. Didn't even know what it was or that it was a threat. Not until i started getting calls from everyone first thing in the morning asking if we were ok.
No warning, makes it much more terrifying.

I can't begin to imagine what that was like. The warnings and whatnot were bad enough when I lived in Irving, TX, but the closest I experienced to one was when microburst hit my place, the same one that knocked down the Cowboys practice field across the street. It was insane.

Strangely enough, the only tornado I've ever seen in person was in North Phoenix as a teenager. It was out in the desert, so no damage or anything, but it wasn't something you see there.

I was afraid of that. Here's one of our little honeys. An F5 from a couple years back a few miles from me. You guys dealing with them on top of a ****ing hurricane is bullshit.

I don't know how you can deal with living in tornado country... To me its far worse than threat of hurricanes. At least with hurricanes you have days to prepare, and are alert to tornadoes... In the midwest tornadoes can form out of nowher when you don't expect it. That has to be a nightmare to deal with.

I am not sure if you want a basement in Florida as a hurricane protection. I don't think it would be pleasant to be under 4 feet of water for a few days after a hurricane brings flooding.

Lol, us Iowans get a bad rap for being backasswards farmers who are dumber than a box of hammers. But we're tough. Like this guy who lives 20 miles from me.

Vern loves Iowa although he does miss playing for the Dolphins.

Tornadoes are always a concern, but it's not so bad. Every now and again a town gets clobbered. Pilger (NE) got twins a few years back. Totaled that little hamlet plumb out. But a no bullshit kick your ass tornado, while always possible, is kinda rare.

I don't know how you can deal with living in tornado country... To me its far worse than threat of hurricanes. At least with hurricanes you have days to prepare, and are alert to tornadoes... In the midwest tornadoes can form out of nowher when you don't expect it. That has to be a nightmare to deal with.

Hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes. We all have a certain kind of disaster to deal with. May everyone be safe, sound, and have the essentials to survive the hurricane. Prayers and thoughts go out to all.

Or generally any regular ol day of the year. I'm sure there's parts of the state you could get away with one but i wouldn't chance it for anything.
