I am losing more faith in this regime every day ...

So lemme see if i got this right:

People dont have a problem with this because he wont play anyways. And he is here to mentor and thats a good thing.

So no one has a problem with a player who has no upside but will get paid to sit on the bench. And they want Larry Johnson as a mentor. Who do we bring in next to mentor young talent, Travis Henry?

There are dozens of undrafted free agent running backs floating around. Pick one of them.

Larry Johnson isn't here to mentor Daniel Thomas in the nuances of spitting in a woman's face... He is here to mentor about RUNNING! Daniel Thomas has stated he models his running style after Larry Johnson. Who better to teach him that running style in the NFL? Heck, he might just be here for 2 more weeks... During that time Thomas might be able to pick up a few tricks to elevate his game. How is that not worth it? Especially if Kory Sheets wasn't getting it done...

Honestly, people around here will ***** about anything. I bet they would complain if the Dolphins signed a new damn long snapper...

Kick offs arent the only special teams. Feild goal, field goal block team, punt return, punt block, extra point and so on. I dont see johnson playing on any of those.

And Kory Sheets is suddenly an all-pro special teams player? Dude hasn't done anything in 3 years... Why is everyone up in arms about replacing him with a former pro bowler?

We didn't let Ricky go . . . he was a FA who was going to tumble to the #3 spot on the depth chart and its not like he left the best impression after the season.

The point is, I "understand" it would have been nice to have Ricky as the 3rd guy, instead of Larry Johnson, but we don't know "why" he wasn't resigned . . . and it's hardly worth "jumping off the ship" because the 3rd string RB is not to your liking (and LJ is the 4th string at the moment). Like I said earlier, the 3rd string RB last season had ZERO carries. Fans are just looking for a reason to be up in arms, even if what they are up in arms about doesn't merit being that way.

Im not jumping ship. Im just trying to make sense of the idea. Ricky is far better than LJ right now and with Sparanos job on the line, is it really benefitial for his pride to get in the way of his job status by not resigning a good RB to signing a less than decent one?

Damn right I will! John Denney is an ELITE long snapper. Easy choice for pro bowl last year. I'd renounce my fandom

John Denney, the longest tenured Dolphin. The Marino of the 2000s era Miami Dolphins football.

Who better to teach him how to run in the NFL? Oh, i dont know, how about a coach? How about a person who gets paid to do nothing but teach young players on how to play football?

And Larry Johnson is not the only NFL player in the history of the sport to run into people. There are literally countless veterans desperately looking for jobs in the NFL who would probably be glad to just get a chance to step onto the football field again, and those veterans do not have the personal baggage that Johnson does.
And again, why pay someone who has utterly no upside? Bring in a young guy. Bring in a undrafted free agent and let them show what they have. If they can bruise through people also, all the better! That means we have multiple people that can play the position, how awful!

Its amazing, there are threads up every other week demanding we cut Brandon Marshall, who has admitted he is ill and is seeking to be a better person. And yet, we sign Larry Johnson(also accused of, and arrested for, violence against women) and people see nothing wrong with it.

Was reffering to the OP when I said "jump ship".

As far as your question, that is a question we will never know. We don't know what Miami offered Ricky or Ronnie for that matter. We only know that Ricky and Ronnie were Free Agents and they went to playoff teams as the #2 back in both cases . . . where here, they would be stuck with a 7-9 team as probably the #3 back.

I just don't think it was easy as "making an offer" to the reasons why they didn't resign with Miami, but maybe Miami didn't make an offer. We just don't know. I don't think it is that big of a deal anyways, not one to "lose faith" about. Lose faith about the OLine not being fixed, lose faith about not having a sure thing at QB on the roster . . . but to even bring up the liking of a 3rd/4th string RB is pretty absurd, and I don't believe he is going to be here long enough to merit the attention he is getting right now. We need guys to take snaps after cutting Sheets . . . LJ fits that role.

I don't like Larry Johnson personally either, but I dont have a problem signing him for a small role. I dont know why people are wasting their breath on this... They HAVE young developmental guys like Thomas, Hilliard and Grigsby. Grigsby will likely be PS. Honestly, I doubt Johnson even makes the final roster...

There are things LJ could teach Thomas that the RB coach probably cant. This is true of every position. I dont see why its worth getting up in arms over such a small signing...

People are up in arms because the signing makes absolutely no sense.
If he is here to be a running back, there are better ones out there including many who are young and just havent had a chance to show it yet. Bring in a guy that missed being drafted for various reasons, and if he can play well i have little doubt he could show others how he does it. God forbid we end up with a Arian Foster or Legarrette Blount, that would be horrible.

If he is here to teach, then there are better veterans available who still have some left in the tank and who havent been arrested 4 times for violent outbursts. Sure he might be able to teach a player if he is willing(because Larry Johnson is well known for being selfless, right?), but what other lessons might be taught? How could he possible teach a young player to be a professional when he himself has proven to be a nutjob? Oh, and at the end of the day, its not his job to teach, thats a coaches job. And if your coach cannot teach properly, thats an entirely new problem.

And finally, why bring in a vet if you know you are going to cut him? Allow a young player at least a chance. The veteran has already shown what he has. Better to be surprised then set up a self fulfilling prophecy, especially when it can help our football team.

PREFIX -This post is not about Henne.

So I find out this morning that we signed Larry Johnson, and we were looking at Clinton Tortis. I Do not understand this regime at all. This move absolutely makes no sense to me.

Take a chill pill buddy.... We already have our starter at RB, we are looking to improve depth....LJ might not even make it out of training camp...

Funny thing is if the Patriots would of signed LJ the same chronic whiners would be lauding the move as sheer genius, along with the mass media. We would hear, "and thats why the pats are great and we aren't....." all week

I would have looked at teams with apparently good depth at the RB position and made a trade for a late round draft pick...

Stafon Johnson (Titans)
Steve Slaton (Texans)
James Davis (Redskins)

Funny thing is the Patriots along with 30 other teams would not sign this guy.
