I need an answer....

Just to put my opinion on the record again, I like Feeley. He's not garbage. I believe that he has the ability to improve the consistency of his game.

But he needs to do it.

Exactly........

But to KNOW whether Feeley can be "fixed" (develop/blossom), Feeley must play!
Let Feeley play (assuming he's similar to Frerotte in pre-season), and let's find out if he develops or not. If not, then we KNOW that we must draft/trade for another QB for next year!

So, Saban is relying on where Wannstedt had them placed on the depth chart because he doesn't know any better??

Im sure you know that Bates made him the starter, not Wanny. And it is not unusual that the incumbent starter from last season at least gets a shot against the new regimes pick (Frerotte). It isnt like Saban made Feeley the undisputed starter before the season even started.

Come on tater salad, you already know all this.

I believe that Saban went on record at least once that he had no expectation who would start any position and that he had no predetermined loyalties to any current player.

inFINSible makes a good point. Saban must see something in Feeley or he'd be backing up Sage...no doubt in my mind

I think it's a legitimate question that hasn't been addressed.

there are people that will tell you they KNOW that feeley isn't going to be a good QB....I've got a list of about 25 individuals who have guaranteed that Feeley will never be anymore than teh suckage. So why can't Saban see it? Why is he letting Feeley compete for the starting QB position on a team that Saban has spent many many years looking for? He wanted absolute power so that there would be no one but himself to blame if he fails, and he's so stupid that he's going to consider a QB who MB pundits have guaranteed to be a failure, as his starting QB?

What the he// is he thinking?

31 other teams thought Tom Brady wasn't worth a 5th or higher. You can't play Gus the whole preseason, so why not let 2 retreads fight it out for the top spot, it will only make both play better.

I'm not really sure why so many people are lining up in one camp or another.

For myself, I don't care who wins the starting job.

I trust that Saban and his staff will choose the best guy.

But AJ can't be "fixed" according to many posters on this board.

Huh?

:rolleyes2

That insinuates that Saban can't evaluate talent on his own.
:shakeno:

No it doesnt. He was the incumbent starter. Because of that- he automatically gets at least a shot at being the starter again. Give me a break it happens all the time.

Training camp and the preseason is where Saban gets to evaluate players. And that is what he is doing.

i dont believe Saban has really said anything. Carefully he has answered questions to the media with out saying a single thing. He's smart.... he doesn't want to mention anything that may affect Feeleys confidence.

Who starts opening day will say go far into what Saban thinks of Feeley.
It's a fact that Feeley is competing for the starting job. If Feeley is so obviously bad then what is Saban trying to do? Take time away from Sage's development?

My thoughts exactly. No point in questioning, we're all going to find out in less than a month :goof: .

And that my friend is a reasonable statement. It is certainly not the "certain bust" type statement that I'm trying to shoot down with this thread.

that's their opinion and I'm leaning towards that but in the end, Saban knows best. This is why Saban brought Gus in. If AJ isn't his qb at least Gus will be a stop gap until Saban get's his future qb.

What's makes me wonder is that if Alex Smith was available, would Saban have drafted him and throw him into the mix to fight w/ AJ and Gus? Or did he really want Brown ?

But neither could Fiedler, and he started for five years. Which just shows sometimes fans can be right and coaches wrong. But what fans often don't take into account is that it's not fantasy football, and when a guy is an investment, the team needs to give him every chance to prove if he has some value before taking a loss.

Here's my problem with "letting AJ develop." And maybe it's time I just adjust my mentality.

If we think we have any chance at winning more than we lose this year, shouldn't the best quarterback be starting -- even if it's Gus? If you're willing to phone in any real competitiveness this year, then by all means, start AJ for 16 straight. Let the career backup be a backup.

I guess that's what 4-12 teams do, but I'm having a real hard time adjusting to that attitude.

I never said feeley was bad.. reread my previous post. I just believe saban hasnt played into favouritism.
