Interpret these stats....

The closer you get to a TD the more desperate the Defense gets to stop you. Remember Miami's bend-but-don't-break defense? The better defenses can clamp down. I think offenses get more predictable as they get closer, there's not as much room to maneuver and the QB has to react quickly with no time to check down. It seems that offenses run fewer routes with a primary receiver to be checked at the line, and a dump off if the coverage switches.

That's when you throw it away. I think that's what Linehan was referring to when he made the infamous comments defending Gus's performance. Frerotte has historically made better decisions when the play blew up than did Feeley. Now, I will say this historical trend imploded during the Tampa Bay game. But Feeley had much more time in both that game and the previous game.

The one disturbing thing to me, however (and something I haven't heard mentioned yet), is that even with time, Feeley is staring down receivers. On the TD throw to Farmer, Feeley never looked at another receiver. And had the defensive back not stumbled, the result may have been different. Now Feeley may have seen that stumble, but I thought the ball had already been released.

You are failing to mention that Feeley prior to throwing, pump faked the pass, making the defender bite which allowed Farmer to gain the needed step for the touchdown. Your observation is an example of going to the overused well once too often. Staring down a receiver in that situation is exactly what you want to do. That's what makes a pump fake succesful. The defender has to anticipate the pass is coming his way and try to jump the play

Also to get a truer picture of what Feeley was facing I think you should cross reference the interceptions, sacks and pressures with the score in the game and the time left in the game. I would imagine that if you're getting shut down the entire game and its late in the 3rd you might want to try to make a play out of nothing just to get things jumpstarted and that would leave yourself vulnerable to getting intercepted.

You are correct. I looked at the play again, and there was a fake.

SOMEBODY still owes me $10, though.

Already payed up, my friend.

Recently, Finheaven started a new program. We like to call it the "DrAstroZoom Fee". We felt it prudent to begin charging anyone with the username "DrAstroZoom" a $10 lifetime fee for access to the forums. All payments are made out to Phinphanphrommi, and as such I've just taken that off your tab. We hope you understand.
