Is Pouncey still at risk for suspension from bullygate?

All hear say. Just like report itself. That report would of been destroyed by any good defense lawyer.

what can be proved in court is one thing but as fan one should be concerned even if they are getting away with it. I mean technically Ray Rice legally hasn't done much since charges were reduced or dropped because he agreed to counseling much like Starks did many years ago.

After the Ray Rice disgrace, I don't think Goodell would be too keen to risk more censure for inconsistency by imposing any punishment for what turned out to be a mutual cluster **** nor to revisit any more attention regarding this episode.

While i dont necessarily disagree, i also dont think Goodell would view the situation like that. After totally ignoring the hypocrisy of throwing the hammer down on players who smoke pot but giving slap on the wrist to the guy who throws his fist at a woman, i seriously doubt Goodell would make a connection between the Rice and Pouncey situations.

Its important to remember that Roger is the son of a politician. Public dick measuring contests are something he understands very well. If Pouncey thumbs his nose at the league office, i doubt Goodell will hesitate to slap him down. Goodell's mentor had a public contest of wills with Jake Plummer when he wanted to honor his dead friend...and Tagliabue has shown to be vastly more reasonable than Goodell.

That being said, i think your right to suggest Pouncey wont be thrown under a bus. I doubt this becomes a situation(though, again, i wont be shocked if it does). At the end of the day i suspect Pouncey will grit his teeth and go through a couple of therapy sessions.

As horrible as the Rice thing was , how many players have been suspended period for domestic abuse.
we all see this as worse because there is video of part of the incident but very few NFL players have ever been suspended because of this.
Brandon Marshall was a constant wave of this and little happened to him.

Agreed. Case in point, Greg Hardy is going through a similar situation and the league hasnt touched him. To say nothing of the Jim Irsay bull****.

Its not hard to imagine Goodell's focus wasnt on the fact that a woman was knocked unconcious, it was focused on the fact it reflected on the league in a negative way. The appalling nature of the crime was incidental. And thats what could get Pouncey in trouble. Bullygate wouldnt be the problem, publicly giving the league the metaphorical finger would be.

I'm not saying Pouncey wasn't supplying drugs to players, but didn't the texts just say drugs were available at parties at Pouncey's house, but considering the company Pouncey surrounds himself with the supplier could have been a friend or associate and not Pouncey. Were there actual text linking Pouncey to drugs or just people using at his house?

But then again, can he really suspend someone for allegedly supplying some recreational drugs in the privacy of his home and NOT come down ona pampered legacy Billionaire owner for driving around town intoxicated with $29K to purchase drugs.? IMO the Rice disgrace was calculated with an eye towards giving Irsay a comparable (aka "free ride"). Pretty difficult to come down on Pouncey for the drug supplier allegations (and do we know that Martin or Incog didn't also provide them when hosts at their places?) and not come down even harder on Irsay based on the scope of the offense :idk:

Irsay should definitely be suspended. If the NFL has a conduct policy then it needs to step it up. DUI's should be at top of list along with all the Domestic violence that is ignored and has been for years.

The biggest issue with suspending an owner though is what does it accomplish, A player gets hurt financially by not playing. A high level fine might hurt Irsay much more

Pease tell me we are basing all this on more than a single Jonathan Martin text about an event he didn't attend

Should Goodell suspend a player for allegedly selling drugs while looking the other way when an owner essentially does the same thing? Absolutely not.
Could Goodell suspend a player for allegedly selling drugs while looking the other way when an owner essentially does the same thing? Um....

In previous incidents Goodell has shown he has the owners back. Sure, the 500k fine towards the Saints during Bountygate wasnt pleasant, but it didnt come close to the money the players would have lost had they not successfully appealed(to Tagliabue incidentally) their year long suspensions, to say nothing of the nasty public campaign Goodell put them through. The owners wanted to hire a yes man, they succeeded.
As well, beating Irsay over the head with penalties would create a precedent Goodell just doesnt want to deal with. Policing the owners private lives? Too much of a hassle, especially since it would bite the hands that feeds. Now policing the players private lives? Well, Goodell created a catchphrase just for that: Protecting the Shield.

So im not going to be surprised in the least when Irsay gets a slap on the wrist(say, as you suggested, the 2 games Rice got?) while players are handed 8 game to year long suspensions.

That being said, i doubt the drug allegations are held against Pouncey at all. I have no doubt they hear drug rumors all the time. Heck, seeing as how the league hires former Federal agents for their investigation branch, i have no doubt they have some solid evidence against players. But until they get stone cold busted(either by a drug test or an arrest) the league seems willing to look the other way. In fact, if i recall correctly, according to the CBA the league cant order random drug testing until either of those things happen. In that regard, Goodell's hands are tied.
This situation is dependent on Pouncey being "a good soldier". Goodell is offering him an out. If Pouncey plays ball and goes to a few sessions, he can go about his business. In Goodell's defense, hes kind of stuck. Since the Wells report showed a whole lot of stupidity but little maliciousness, im sure Goodell doesnt really give a **** about this anymore. But bullying is a national topic at the moment and he has to appear sensitive to that. Sending Pouncey to a doctor allows him to sidestep this entire drama. Now if Pouncey drags him back into it by refusing...well, i dont think hes going to be quite so easy going.

I doubt even Goodell cares very much about Pouncey undergoing "psychological testing". What does that even mean, anyway? Can you "fail" the test... the psychologist calls up Goodell and says, "I'm sorry, but this man is too insane and too stupid and too much of an asshole to play football. Tell him to come back in a few months when he's saner, smarter and less of a buttnugett, and I'll consider reinstating him." I mean, legally a psychologist wouldn't be allowed to tell Goodell much of anything.

At the end of the day Pouncey will go see a shrink, say "I love lamp" for half an hour, and leave. And Goodell will be fine with that. At this point he needs Pouncey to do what he says because he needs Pouncey to know who the boss is. I don't think it's really about calming public sentiment. The public seems reasonably calm about this. The only outcry you see these days is from the Pouncey defenders who think he's being railroaded.

It's actually too bad that Pouncey won't take the process seriously, because he could definitely stand getting his brain de-iced. Then again being willing to recognize that you have a problem doesn't mean you can get cured. Look at Incognito. He's gone through tons of counseling and takes Paxil and still he still acts like a cross between a dick-swinging, road-raging 14 year old and the human embodiment of an internet troll.

Do we know Pouncey hasn't done the testing. Has either side commented on the situation since the May article?

They aren't giving Irsay a free ride he checked himself into rehab, he made an effort. The league has told Pouncey he needs to complete counseling it is their league their rules. It is not a right to be an NFL player it is a privilege! The sooner Pouncey understands that the better a player, teammate, and a human being he will become!

Plenty of organizations/employers have a code of conduct that if violated can result in suspension. More people need to be concerned about Pouncey and his defiant attitude it shows he won't grow up and change. Look at Don Jones he was ordered counseling he immediately completed it and came back to work a better man!
