It was the un-coachable Dolphins Defense not Fangio..........

The only thing about Fangio we don't know is how much effort did he put in his time here? Considering he was pretty much known to want to be in Philly in the long run, I wonder if we got the "full version" of Fangio or did he just not care by the end? The Titans game was awful, maybe he had one foot out the door by then

The vaunted Fangio defense that did get sacks and INT's resulted in a playoff loss, and the 23rd scoring defense. 23rd! That. Is. Not. Good!!

However, I'd much rather have a man's man leading our franchise, over the femme man, any day.

Considering he was giving 75% effort, I thought he did OK with Miami. Other than the meltdown in the Titans game, you couldn't *really* blame the defense for the teams overall shortcomings.
There was a Buffalo game that was pretty bad and that Ravens game was an epic embarrassment.

Fangio had Miami's defense, ranked in the top 5, for several weeks, during the season. He did a hell of a job, in spite of all the drama, behind the scenes, and also having issues with Miami's scoring defense.

And considering what he was able to accomplish with two rookie DB's, in Philadelphia, is remarkable. Good old school coach.

Yeah, there was nothing accidental about the Fangio hire. McDaniel was familiar with him and the style he brought. It's clear to me that 1) Vic's heart was elsewhere and 2) we had too many turds in the locker room. Too bad, but I'm more than content with Weaver as long as he stays here.
I agree with your points 1 and 2, but I'm still not sure if Weaver is the answer. Most here act like Weaver is great. But too many times last year the defense folded when they needed to make a stand. If he can make chicken salad out of the chicken shite he has this year, I will sing his praises.

I don’t buy that Fangio took the job just for a paycheck. Yes, ultimately he wanted to be in Philly, but he came to Miami to coach up the defense to the best of his ability because he is a professional. However, McD ran this team like they were on a ClubMed vaca with lack of practices and letting players slide during the week. Fangio is a tough coach who believes in working hard and it wasn’t gonna happen in Miami under McD and Fangio saw it for what it was and didn’t wanna tolerate the lack of discipline. So yeah, I do blame McD
McD is in over his head. He’s just not HC material

I think Vic wanted to be here… until he didn’t.

What I mean is, he came in and saw a bunch of lackadaisical, unmotivated, and spoiled children who cared more about money and fame than they did about winning. Even a legendary DC like Fangio couldn’t fix the culture. Why? Because PLAYERS create the culture… not the coaches.
Better yet, how 'bout this...

Who do you believe created the culture on the Miami Dolphins during Don Shula's tenure, specifically in the '70s?

Yep. Lends more credence towards my belief that players, not the coaches, create culture.

I mean, why didn’t Fangio yell or call them mean names? That would have surely got the players in line, right?
McD is 100% against that type of leadership and discipline, that's why. It's not rocket surgery. The inmates have been allowed to run the asylum so long, its borderline in their DNA...it will take a purging to remove the cancer.

I don't care what anyone says....a great coach adjusts to his players he has, not the other way around. Fangio and his defense cost us the AFC East title against the Titans. Period, end of story. Philly has better players and good for him. He was at fault here under multiple situations, just as Flores was. Accept some damn responsibility.

Look where all those players who complained about Fangio are now. They ain't in Miami, they gone. Can't coach players, who don't want to be coached.

You’re trying to compare apples to oranges.

First, players back then the players weren’t millionaires. They did OK (made like $25k per year… which is about $150k in today’s money.)

Second, the players were still the ones who built the culture. Zonk, Griese, Little… and others…built the culture.

Third, I get the need to romanticize sports and the athletes. It’s like kids believing in magic. The HC is a part of the team, so in that he is A PART of making that culture. But they are a small, very small, part of it.

Last, how can a HC, particularly in today’s times, going to punish a player? They can’t. They can bench them and possibly lose a game or more. They can suggest that the league fines them. (Players won’t care). What’s left? Yelling? The HC is a teacher and motivator and manager…not much else. At least in the NFL. Do you think it was Belichick who set the culture in New England? Why did they suck and turn undisciplined and lazy in one season? Brady set the culture there.
