It's Time to Thank Huizenga

really what do you think these guys are gonna say about their coach.

They don't have to say anything. Nobody's paying them or holding a gun to their heads.

JT,"Well I cant believe this guy would even think of running anything but base 4-3. I hate his additude"

ZT,"He actually wants to be in charge of the team! I want Wanny Back."

RW,"Can I play?"

They would say nothing. They would not say what they said above.

I cursed a few times because of his extension of wannys contract, some misplaced media comments, but this year, hiring Saban, planning the new stadium etc, he really does deserve some credit.

Good work Wayne.

If Wayne has a fault, it's that he's not businessman-like enough or cutthroat enough, he has too much loyalty to his employess because he's a nice guy. Hence the extension to Wanny.

The only issue Ive ever had with Wayne H. was the hiring of Wannestadt. I know he took the advice from JJohnson but he really should have known better. Wannestadt just simply was not a head coach.
His hiring of Saban was excellent. Considering just about every owner that has had a coaching opening over the last 5 years has tried to hire Saban, it says alot that Wayne H was able to get him. He is an excellent owner.

He placed too much confidence in the wrong man for the job.But that is understandable. It happens to the best of them.

Wayne is a bottom line kind of owner and it was the empty seats at the stadium that finally changed his mind to finally make a change.

I've been a Wayne basher. But, I still say he was wrong for calling out Mare. That's not something an owner does.

And, while I applaud the efforts he has made to improve us, the job is not over yet.

Saban has yet to coach his first game. I'm still guarded in my opinion. Only time will tell the truth of his hiring. I'm still reminded of a lesson I've learned in life in regards to Saban.

Wanny was horrible, yet he received support from the press, fans and players until the end. NOW, we see the truth.

Saban is a new face and a new method. The press, fans and players support him. They like him because he is the epitimy of Anti-Wanny.

However, just because a new regime is the complete opposite as the defunct old regime... it does not gaurantee the opposite results.

There are many ways to fail in the NFL. Let's not blindly assume Saban is the answer to all of our prayers.

So, I am still cautious on my complete analysis of Wayne's performance in this area.

And finally, Wayne is admist a decision that will shape Dolphin football for the next 20 years. This decision is even more far reaching than choosing a HC. He is building a new stadium.

In this day and age, a stadium can become an icon for a franchise: good or bad. How he handles the choices between dome, retractable roof or open air will ultimately shape the image of the team for the next 20 years.

How "fan friendly" will it be?

How "media friendly" will it be?

Will it combine form and function?

Will it be a crown jewel in the Miami skyline?

Will it have grass or field turf?

For me, the stadium decision will ultimately shape this franchise for decades to come. This is a decision Wayne must make as he looks to the future and embraces the past.

I'd like to see a futuristic/modern facility with strong accents of Dolphin lore everywhere. It should be something all fans are proud of.

I hope he makes the right choice.

The only mistake I felt Wayne has made as an owner was not conducting a true coaching search when JJ quit.

I also feel he should have recognized what Wannstedt was or wasn't a lot sooner than he did, it was clear to me that Wannstedt was riding the defense Jimmy built.

He never successfully improved this team in any manner, in fact the team regressed every year Wannstedt was here.

In my opinion Wannstedt was definately here a year too long, and in reality should have been axed after failling to make the playoffs in 2002 with 8 pro bowlers on the roster, the leagues leading rusher and the #3 defense in the NFL.

It was a clear case of poor coaching and Wayne should have recognized that.

With all that said, I complement Wayne on finally seeing the error of his ways and in the incredible way he handled the pursuit of Nick Saban.

I've always seen him as the best owner in football. He has always opened his wallet to get whatever it is the coaches wanted, and he's smart enough to recognize he has no business meddling with the team.

I agree completely, he is the best owner in Football.

No, no and no. Everything you said is completely wrong.

I thought he was just planning to build a retractable roof over the current facility...

He was *considering* that. A major makeover of the existing stadium with expanded dolphin related facilities is all I've heard about; nothing concerning building a new stadium.
