Jake Long is on "shaky ground" with the Dolphins.

Speculation.

At the moment, Jake Long is the face of our franchise. He knows it, the team knows it, his agents know it. He is not going to be any more disgruntled that we picked Martin in the second round than he was when we picked Jerry in the third.

As for the money, you pay him. How we are so low in cash is beyond me, but we literally only have 1 other big contract on the roster. We arent paying a franchise quarterback(Tannehills rookie contract will be relatively easy to stomach) and we arent paying huge contracts to wideouts or passrushers.
Other teams figure out how to reward their best players all the time. The Lions are paying Matt Stafford an absurd amount yet still gave Calvin Johnson 130 million reasons to stay with the team. Even the Jets, about as strapped for cash team as their is, figured out how to pay Ferguson top dollar. The problem isnt with Long, its with whoever is running our cap. Figure out how to fix that then pay the man.

Yeah, this is pure speculation. The writer himself admits it.

At the risk of repeating the same thing other posters have said: Long isn't "breaking down". He's 26, ffs. He's been top-3 in his position for his entire career. And his contract will be hefty - as a top-3 player in any position should expect. But he is not going anywhere - not this year, not next year. Not for a long while.

Martin will fill in at RT. He should solidify the right side of the line.

what's happening is that you don't win with the top LT in the NFL......we could draft another OT now and pair him with Martin and our o-line would be better than having Long and Colombo......not saying they're better than Long. Just saying as a combo they'd be better and cost a whole lot less. If you can get a 1st round pick for him I'd do it and use that money to get the pass rusher from the giants who will actually make plays for our defence.

Ozzy rules!!

I agree. You find a way to sign your best players. Winning franchises who compete every year do this.

Jake Long is a franchise left tackle. These guys come around once a decade.

Play him this year and let him walk. He gets injured every year, wear and tear is catching up to him.

Yeh lets trade him. Its about as good a move as trading Welker. We should trade all of our best players. Lets trade Wake too cause he is going to get paid too much . Davis is another one I would look to trade immediatly.

the problem is if you were really gonna do this why the hell didn't you put him on the block PRIOR to the damn draft...instead you let him play out 2012 and walk for free???

thats some dumb stuff...if its true

probably because they wanted to make sure they got a tackle worthy of taking his sport first, which was not guarenteed considering all there needs and the fact they might want to see what John martin does this season and how he plays first before doing anything with Jake, to see if martin can play. So it is good for them to see this first so that they do have a replacement in jake should they want to trade him next season. Wherease, if they traded him before the draft and don't get a quality tackle to replace him or they get martin and he ends up a bust then miami has a huge hole at tackle and that would be stupid

Can't just let a player like Jake walk.

If he agrees to a affordable and reasonable contract, keep him. If he he's gonna want big money than what? He had shoulder and knee problems the last two yrs.

I'm not that adept with o-line schemes and personnel, but I said this before n wonder if it has some play... is changing to the zone blocking scheme putting a lower cap on what the front office is willing to spend on Jake? From my understanding, maulers aren't as big of a need in zone blocking and more emphasis is put on athleticism and quickness, eliminating to a degree what Long does great for us. Maybe Jonathan Martin is his replacement if we can't make it work with Long?

jake will get paid but our cocaching staff will not hurt the entire team to pay one man a fortune
