Jason Cole: Marino NOT impressed with Philbin's handling of Tannehill

I wonder if Marino lost respect for Shula after this:
Back then, missing the playoffs was a sin for Shula's team so there was obvious concern that Miami needed to do something dynamic to change direction. Shula wanted back in the playoffs and the idea of trading Dan Marino was starting to gain traction among fans.

Well, one reporter asked Shula if he might consider such a trade.

"I don't ... My actions aren't governed by ..." Shula stumbled as if surprised.

Then he recovered and said, "Furtherest thing from my mind."

But it got closer to Shula mind later in the offseason when the Miami coach and Davis started discussing a Marino blockbuster.

Shula, only the winningest coach in NFL history, not only considered the trade, but nearly took the step. The reason Marino didn't play his final decade in silver and black is because Shula and Davis came to an agreement on the trade and then Shula increased his asking price not once but twice.

IF Philbin comes out & puts 100% support behind Tannehill then all of the beat writers would write articles bashing him that how could he NOT consider benching him. It's a lose for him in regards to Tannehill. Look Its Tannehills play that has out him in this situation, I do NOT want to bench him YET but putting him on notice IMO isn't a bad idea that last 5 games he has been terrible - what happened??? Last years NE game was probably his best game then it all fell apart for him that doesn't make sense & the coaches need to figure out what happened.
Marino isn't bashing him for thinking about benching Tannehill, he's bashing Philbin for not having the balls to tell tannehill he's benching him, and leaving tannehill in limbo about his starting position. If you are going to make the call to bench your QB, you do it before anyone like the press finds out. A benched player should not find out from the ****ing press, they should find out from their coach. Joe does not know how to lead men, that much is very evident and has been from the second season when he jettisioned off all of his star leaders.

Hey Mr. Garfinkel, if you want me to watch miamidolphins.com videos, get rid of the 15 second ads. You really need the one cent for my view?

Up your browser game.

Also isn't he big thing Marino was unhappy about here the 2 minute clock management and decision to sit on a possession?

How's about we run the ball instead of Lazor trying to upstage Chip's success in Philly -> let's take what the Defense is serving us on a platter - I don't care if RT only throws 150 yards if we can establish a run game that we can pas from.

It appears that Lazor thinks he is a genius and is trying to get great WR and RB play out of our so-so weapons -> if the run game is moving the chains keep our D off the field and run it down the opposing teams throats -

What makes you think he didn't clue Tannehill in? I'm pretty sure Tannehill was put on notice after the Bills games by his comments, and I'm paraphrasing here 'I need to get a lot better, and fast.'

I am with Marino - the Bills game with 3 Time outs and roughly two minutes is till Half no time to throw in the towel

Some one save us.

Lolz. You guys really need to stop listening to press conferences after a loss. You remind me of a bunch of women that just caught their significant other cheating...EXPLAIN YOURSELF!!! As if any answer is going to calm you down.
Anyway, this Marino/Philbin rift was pretty predictable, they are polar opposites. I'm surprised it reared its head so early but it was coming. Its really discouraging that he's taking Tannehill's side though. Tannehill ****ing sucks, that should be painfully obvious to any semi-professional talent evaluator. If Marino is failing to see that then it doesn't bode well for the team under his watch.

I wish I could catch the team cheating, so I could leave them! But then, I know I'll always stay...

Maybe. It seems like they were going tit for tat on that through the press. Philbin (or somebody) said on the QB decision that this wasn't a motivational ploy, the motivational ploy came last week. Obviously he was talking about "the decision." It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Marino would not have liked that "ploy."

Philbin can't make coaching decisions based on what he thinks will make Dan Marino happy. Hopefully that is not whats going on with Tannehill keeping the starting role going to London.

I am disappointed with the team performance against KC and the biggest concern is Tannehill. He appears to have regressed and the causes are not obvious. However, it disgusts me to see all of these alleged Dolphin fans on here, salivating at the prospect of Tannehill and Philbin failing. I urge everyone to join me in continuing to support our team, our Head Coach, his coaching team and our players, especially our QB, to see if they can turn it around.
Maybe the issue is Tannehill learning the new system and showing that he can implement it. For all the enthusiastic words that we have heard, I really have seen nothing that shows that it is fast paced, up-tempo.
My belief is that Tannehill should improve when Pouncey is back on the field and strengthening the O-line. Let's hope that he's healthy enough to play this week. Maybe they can turn it around.
Feel free to char-grill me for continuing to root for our team, our coach and our QB.

Tannehill might still be shell shocked from all the hits he took last year. It looks like he panics and holds the ball. Doesn't look comfortable in the pocket. I have no beef with Tannehill, nothing personal, people here want to make it personal, I just think he can't stand in and make a throw, like I see many other quarterbacks make. Something about his delivery makes it easy for the defense to block many of his throws. Tannehill isn't running very much either, I believe that if Tannehill is able to make a few runs early in the game, it might make him more comfortable. IT looks like Lazor wants Tannehill to throw all the time, even if it aint working and the running game is. I think what Lazor is doing to Tannehill, is for hes detrement. Moore, or Tannehill could be effective, used correctly. I don't believe Tannehill is going to be our franchise quarterback, at this point, I would like to see Moore get the same chance as Tannehill, until that happens, you cant judge him fairly.

This in a nutshell. I said as much in the chatroom that game. That whole sequence defined how Joe Philbin felt about Ryan Tannehill right there. He doesn't fully trust him, and that can never be the situation with someone who is supposed to be your "franchise QB". It takes balls to admit this, especially as the sentiment seems to be both him and RT are tied by the hip.

Problem with Joe is, he should just full out give the ball to Matt Moore if this is how he feels. You can't make it known that you aren't really into Ryan Tannehill and then stick with him when the fans/media have see Matt Moore do the things we only wish Ryan could do some of time.

People can understand a coach sticking with his #8 overall selection through a rough patch, but when you are losing, you are putting doubt into people's heads with your actions/words and fail to do anything . . . . well you can pretty much stick a fork in your tenure as the Dolphins head coach.

There is still time Joe, but you have to act now.

Oh well...

If Marino knows personnel, I wish he would of spoke up during his playing days. With all the crap drafted by Shula. But I guess since he's been in a ivory tower on CBS he now knows something he has no personal experience in.

If Philbin isn't benching Tannehill his lack of support = Inexcusable. If need to motivate he's not guy anyway ...
