Agreed. Even then, Miami is only likely to part with a conditional 6th or a 7th round pick.

He will go to a team that needs a center and doesnt like the prospects from the draft. Just because h could play guard doesnt mean he will want to. Hickey contacted Deitrich Smith and probably asked about his willingness to move to guard and he probably said no which is why there was no follow up. There are still some quality guards left in FA as well as some goo ones in the draft. No need to start playing musical chairs with positions yet.

If he gets cut, Oakland with plenty to over-spend will swoop in; maybe a few others too. If they'll take a late rounder, and Hickey likes him, he should absolutely grab him before he hits the open market.

yes, he is "familiar" with hickey but hickey wasnt his coach, position or h/c or even gm so there is no advantage with hickey.
when he is an f/a he can go anywhere and will. so, why would he come here? the o-linemen in this offseason have been avoiding us like the plague for whatever reason [mostly they had offers from winning teams] and he will more than likely do the same.
HICKEY CAN NOT DO A THING about players who DONT WANT TO BE HERE!! we have offered better contracts to some but were turned down. WE ARE A NOTHING TEAM WITH NOT BIG ATTRACTION and we are paying the price of last regimes from wanny up to ireland. true or not, as of now,the front office has a shaky rep around the nfl. our qb is a question mark. we havnt been to a superbowl in 513 years. 1 playoff game that everyone but the blindest of finz homers knows it was a complete fluke!!. no run game. bad drafts, laughable secondary outside one guy, etc... .
we cant over come all this in 1 off season. only winning will change it but we have a MASSIVE uphill battle as you have to have talent to win and the talent is going elsewhere right now. even if hickey makes all the right moves and a little luck to boot, were looking at 3 years before were on the map again. right now, we are a what ever team with some new gm dude. next year we will be the same old loser dolphins OR "hey, nice season" dolphins. if we get talent in here and we win 2 years in a row, then we start getting calls from the real talents agents and may even have the coveted up and comer/the new place to be team like the browns are now..
and i ask ALL of you again, if YOU are a talented nfl player, in his prime and your an f/a, do you go to the broncos, seahawks or pats or the miami dolphins?
me either. hickey has a big, big job in front of him. ANY other gm we would have selected would be looking at the same challenges with the same time lines.
it is what it is. stop looking for miracles this off season and blaming hickey for every player who signs with a better organization. put up a big pic of ireland on your wall and everytime that coveted player sign with a winning team, chuck a dart or two at the ireland pic. were in this mess, this big because of him.
SO, IF WE WANT HIM, we have to trade or he probably wont be in miami. a conditional 6th would be my 11th hour offer IF they balked at a 7th. that as far as i would take it. and no matter what all the stat and scout hooplah says, at the end of it all, the guy hasnt given up a sack for many years and thats great for an o-lineman at ANY position!! having a TRUE backup center is critical. this guy needs to be a dolphin but wont be unless we trade. and who in the 5-7 round is going to be the instant player zutah already is? and we know we are going after a guard somewhere in the 5th/6th round so not a game changer as far as that portion of the draft.

Does anyone know how good Zuttah actually is? Is he cleary better than Jerry? I have never watched this guy play, maybe some of you have. Seems odd a bad Tampa team is willing to get rid of him.

most o-linemen are better than Jon Jerry.
He has more athleticism than Jerry. He is really more of a pass blocking center than a run blocking guard. He can and has played guard. He just isn't that great at it especially the run blocking part. That is his weakness. I don't think he is a major upgrade at all. We would be just as well to resign Jerry IMO. Plenty of guards in this draft that are better.
