The same financial logic would apply to Watson, with the caveat that you could convert his salary into a bonus mitigating his cap hit since he's going to be a long-term asset.
That's different than asking a bunch of marginal guys like Byron Jones to convert unguaranteed salary in the future into a bonus making it even harder to get rid of him or anyone you restructure in the short or medium-term.
Well managed teams try to flatten contracts, not do restructures that create less cap space in future years. And why would you do this? OBJ made the Browns empirically worse and they're a much more talented and better coaches team than the Fins. How much difference is he making here? Waddle has made zero and we traded 2 firsts for him.
