Jets/Raiders trade

I don't know, I think Washington overpayed for their move up. My brother in law is a huge Raider fan and he is kind of bummed about losing Jolley. He is a great receiver but blocking is an issue. I just don't see who is going to play defense for the Raiders. They have literally no one to play linebacker or DB with any type of decency.

The Jets got themselves another receiver along with Coles and McCareins. They have some weapons but Mrtin is another year older and Pennington seems to have hit a wall. I think this goes sligthyl in the Raiders favor, but not by much.

This is not the end of the Raiders' moves. This trade enables them to posture yet again for another trade. Either on draft day for a higher pick or for a veteran player before the draft. The Raiders are positioning themselves for Title run. They are shedding dead weight while it still has value in an effort to plug the holes NOW.

I expect some trade rumors to begin surfacing between Miami and Raider Nation. Let's consider something, if you are the Raiders and you want to make a SB push...what's your first step? Win your division.

You just acquired Randy Moss. Denver has Champ Bailey - OBSTACLE. Now, KC is rumored to be trading for Surtain - OBSTACLE. But, KC is balking at the asking price. If you want to protect your investment in Moss, wouldn't it be in your best interest to ELIMINATE Surtain by preventing him from becoming a Chief? Now, in the same stroke, you can ADD Surtain to YOUR Defense. Instead of one new weapon for teams to plan for (Moss), you now have 2. Moss and Surtain, one for each side of the ball.

You do NOT acquire Moss and make the moves they have made this year and last year (Collins) while destroying your defense and waiting for it to develop through the draft. Your SB window would slam shut (financial commitments) before the Defense developed. Instead, you immediately upgrade your defense with veteran impact players. It might NOT be Surtain they acquire, but it's becoming obvious the Raiders are making room for A trade.

Uh the Raiders are a while away from the Super Bowl. They're a wildcard/division contender. They have plenty of youth. There is no window closing for them. Kerry Collins isn't that hard to replace, plus Sapp+Ted Washington didn't provide all that much anyway last year.

Actually, Collins was Norv's pick. Norv covets the deep ball thrower. Make whatever jokes you want about Collins' INT problems, Norv hand picked him to run his offense. He didn't want anyone else for the job. So, yes, in the current league, Collins' is somewhat invaluable to them.

And, don't fool yourself about the Raiders not being a contender. In the modern era, we live in a "rags to riches" league. A SB contender can be built in one or two years.

And, there is a reason why Sapp and Washington "disappointed" last year. They had so many holes in coverage and on the edges, teams simply used the REST of the field. They neutralized the middle by exploiting the secondary and lack of run support on the edges. The Raiders gave up a LOT of big pass plays last year. A LOT. Which is some of the logic behind some of their recent moves. They are moving what they feel is "dead wood". While the NAMES of some of this "wood" are somewhat young and regarded as difference makers, they simply do not work (for various reasons) in the new Raider Nation.

The Raiders have a lot of big money guys. Their window is already a narrow one. They are making a push NOW. Also, you underestimate the strength of the AFC West. With Denver, KC, SD and Oakland, this division beats up on itself so much, only the strongest can make it. The margin of error in that division is TINY. Just as it is in our Division. 4-12, yet we beat the SB Champs.... that should tell you something. While some of the Raiders' changes may seem HUGE on the outside, when placed in their division, they have 3 other teams JUST AS STRONG.

They ARE making their push NOW. This "wildcard/division contender" you speak of is just a few moves away from being an elite team. Norv has them pointed to the SB and with the money/talent they have, they got about 2 years before they have to blow it up and start over.

I could name quite a few other QBs who could throw a deep ball. Collins is not irreplaceable.

Their season depends on how they readjust to the 4-3. I could see it working, they have decent players for that scheme on the DL. They need LBs. They are probably going to be ok at S with Schweigert. They need to sign Woodson long term to compete this year.

I agree with this. Collins to Moss/Porter/Curry with Jordan in the backfield is no joke. Collins is no stranger to the playoffs either.

AS far as the Jets go.. I would be so pissed if I was a fan! What a terrible off-season.
