Joe Philbin ranks very low among the NFL’s best head coaches.

Binns was never starting.

injuries are part of the game, look at what NE lost.

he did a good job keeping the team together during the controversy but when the games were biggest his team didn't even show up. That tells us more than anything else. if they win those last 2 I think he could have been a COY candidate but they didn't compete in either game.

I guess you can look at this a number of different ways....but based on past history, you would have to say Rex is on the decline from his first couple of years with Mangini's team till now. Team has been going backwards and you can see the players coming in aren't contributing...especially to the offense.

By the same measure, Philbin increased his record year over year, which would indicate a coach on the incline. Same measure applied to both coaches.

Now, I don't necessarily believe that Ryan isn't a good coach or that Philbin is a great coach....but you can't cherry pick the information. I think it is really difficult to compare coaches of different tenures and make it work.

Rex lost Jenkins, Washington, Leonhard, etc..., had a million controversies w/ Alosi, foot fetish, etc... did that stop him from having his teams ready to play?

Jets teams quit on Rex all the time. What happened in the first Miami-Jets game when the Jets were not only still alive but the favorite to get the Wild Card? That was one of the worst Jets performances I have ever seen and that's saying something.

It is disingenuous to paint Rex's 8-8 as a success and Philbins as a failure.

how so? you guys broke the bank to upgrade talent and were expected to be a playoff type team. we were supposed to be 3-13/4-12.

we had half the talent of Miami and a QB who wasn't ready to play.

6 wins to 8 wins isn't backwards. we needed to re-tool after we had some cap issues, age and injuries but he kept the team competitive.

Rex went from 6 wins to 8 wins w/ inferior talent
Philbin from 7 to 8 w/ superior talent

How is philbin ascending and rex not?

Binns was never starting.

Binns was looking great in camp (Especially in the redzone, where Miami could have used him), and was probably at worst going to be top 3. He would have also been

That is a term used a lot, but when a team loses, not 1, not 3, but 6 starters for the season (One of which was great to see off the team), rarely does a team still have a great season.

To many young players and Band-Aids all season, it finally caught up to them.

The Jets were the favorite to get the WC? really? you know were 5-6 heading into that game, right? we had a QB that wasn't ready to play, we went as he played. when he was competent we won, when he imploded we got beat up. to get to 8 wins w/ our backup QB who wasn't ready to play was miraculous.

Lots of players loo good in camp. doesn't mean they are ready to break out.

who are these 6 starters? you lost Keller, the 2 OL and who else?

it finally caught up to them? so they were good enough to beat NE but it caught up to them playing Buffalo and NYJ? come on.

2009 lost Jenkins and Leon for the year- best D player, most dynamic O player. had injuries/suspensions. made title game
2010 lost Jenkins week 1, lost Leonhard early December. had revis hold out, foot fetish, tripgate. Numerous injuries during the year to key guys plus suspensions. made title game.

Yes you were the favorite even at 5-6, you remember the AFC was a total **** show and most believed an 8-8 team would get in at that point, right? Also, I would argue Tannehill isn't really ready to compete either, and when he was competent we won too. But he imploded week 17 just like Geno did in our first match up so why does Rex get the excuse of being a good coach with a **** QB but when our QB sucks ass for a game the team was not well coached?

stop it, the Jets were not the favorites at that point in the season. 2 weeks earlier before we started the 3 game losing streak we could have been considered a favorite but that was early.

Geno was a ROOKIE who wasn't even going to start for us, Ryan was in year 2 for Miami still playing in his college system not needing to learn a new system. Miami had MUCH more talent than we did on O and was expecting to be a playoff team. we were supposedly the worst team in the league yet we finished in 2nd place ahead of you.

Sorry, I don't get the Rex Ryan love or rating. In a league driven by "what have you done for me lately?" he hasn't had a winning season in the last 3. And beyond that, if you don’t count games where opponents didn’t really compete with their starters, (and I don’t), in 5 years Rex has fielded 1 winning team, has a 40-38+2 laydowns record and has never won a Division Championship, even when his team was loaded in 09 and 10. Yes, in 09, he went 7-7 before Cinci and Indy deemed the games “meaningless” and considering how well stacked that team was, losing the one game at home to a dead Atlanta in game 14, the one they legitimately needed to win to stay in contention, is all the more unimpressive.

Beyond that, this is the offensively-clueless HC who re-signed Schottenheimer who’s on shaky ground in STL, and then brought in the equally clueless Meatball, calling him his “Mini Me.” (actually pretty fitting!). A case can be made that this season’s team, relflected by a 100pt deficit could have as easily gone 6-10 considering the call vs NE that moved the FG attempt up 15 yards - the same exact call we did not get against the Ravens, and that last minute TB gift penalty. So IMO the .500 record record credit should go to Morningwood who I don’t doubt Woody at Itzdick’s request commanded him to hire. Morningwood came in 1 day before Itzdick, and anyone who doesn’t think Izdick’s ultimatum to Woody went something like: “Even though you had a bunch of turndowns, I will join the team, even if stuck with Rex for a year only if you make him hire Morningwood; I don’t care who else he’s considering, but based on past choices, if it’s not Morningwood, it’s not me either!”

And then of course, despite it being a blessing in disguise, Rex got his presumptive starter injured by playing him in a meaningless exhibition game (The Meatball and his playing Jake Long similarly surely rubbed off on him). Certainly this was keeping in character for him to stick with a QB who put up the worst stats as a starter since JaMarcus and was ranked 27th in the league by a credible service (if you place any value on stats).

I’m hard pressed to rank him in even the top 20. Sorry. And the fact he’s ranked as high as he is, coupled with a bunch of other mediocre bozos nullfies any credibility this list has other than being arbitrary and subjective. :idk:

Rex is also in year 6 of implementing his system. A huge advantage over philbin who is year two.

But when a player at a certain position is out playing everyone else, it normally does look good for that individual.

Well, considering you really watch very little Dolphins games, and just rely of what you read.....Keller, Binns, Gibson, Cog, Martin, Petterson.

it finally caught up to them? so they were good enough to beat NE but it caught up to them playing Buffalo and NYJ? come on.

Yes, never heard of a team that won a huge game, only to lose the week later. Ever heard a team that is doing well, then they lose a big game, and are never the same again for that season again...oh of course you did, that's what happened to your team a while back called the fake spike game....it happens.

It's obvious you will not change your opinion being a Jets fan. Philbin does have a ways to go, but more then half of the HC on that list did not do a better job then Philbin.

Oh so that did not all happen in 1 year like it did Miami...I see.

They are trying to say Philbin has 4 coaches below him and 3 have not even coached a down at their present jobs. Not buying it.

Tannehill was just as bad for us in our second matchup as Geno was for you in our first, so again, why does Philbin get the blame for bad coaching while Rex gets to use the excuse of bad QB play?

Rex was in year 5 w/ a new OC for the 3rd straight year.

But when a player at a certain position is out playing everyone else, it normally does look good for that individual.

I don't think you can say he was ready to explode.

I watch plenty of dolphin games. it is comical you are considering Binns a starter. Patterson was on D, your D was just fine.

Gibson started 2 games in 7 games played.

real starters lost- 3, Keller and the 2 OL.

your Ol played much better w/o those 2 by the way.

we weren't very good in 1994 and what huge game did we just win? it's a coaches job to guard against a letdown, even after the letdown against Buf the coach should have them ready to play the following week. you played 2 mediocre teams and couldn't beat either.

I will change my opinion when Philbin has his team playing as well as they should be.

2010 for the Jets was WORSE.

Revis hold out
hard knocks
holmes suspended 4 games
pace injury
Jenkins lost for year in week 1
revis hurt
Mangold hurt
Edwards DUI
Cotch injury
Woody injury
Leonhard injury
Sal Alosi
foot fetish video

we had it much worse in 2010 and yet still made the title game.
