John Clayton Reports on Ronnie...

I'm sure the fact Ricky is on the team is making these negotiations a little difficult. The Dolphins are obviously hesitant to pay superstar money to a RB who is most likely going to split carries. And obviously Ronnie wants to get paid like the superstar RB we all hope he is. Plus the contract must be tricky, becuase they always put easy to reach incentives in it, but with Ricky in the picture those things like Ronnie taking 35% of the snaps for a season don't sound like a given.

Man I wish I had the luxury to complain about that kind of money.

man for 21 million dollar...I'd....

1. Never leave the practice facilities.
2. Fuq Flipper
3. Give Larry Chester massages
4. Pick Ricky's beard
5. Clip Traylor's toe nails
6. Scoop the shyt and piss out the the toilets(save Wayne money on water)7. Clean the lint out of Len Pasquerelli ( i think thats how you spell it) navel.
8. Be Randy McMichaels wife's body guard
9. Squeeze Saban's azz for him when he gets upset
10. Cut the grass on the plaing and practice fields......with scissors 2 times a day

And still rush for over 200 yards a game......of course id be taking plenty of steroids and other illegal substances.

Nah, I'll blame Ronnie ..... we heard about how he's a good guy, humble person, this & that ........ he could of stepped up to his agent long ago & said, my 1st priority is to be with my team, get it DONE NOW!!! But he didn't, isn't, hasn't .... & that is saying a little bit about his character, so yeah I'll blame him. Make no mistake, that doesn't mean I won't forgive him when he breaks one for a TD.

So, he has bad character for trying to get fair market value for his services? There must be a lot of people in the United States with bad character then.

I doubt Ricky Williams has any effect on this deal. Only a fool would count on him for anything at this point. Whatever they get out of him is gravy. He's got a long way to go, and he has to sit out the first four games, so I highly doubt that having Ricky on the team is having any effect on this.

After watching how poorly the running backs played in the running game and the passing game Monday night, Ronnie Brown picked up even more leverage.

And the OLine was worse then the QBs and RBs combined.
He may have picked up even more reason why his performance incentives wont be reached.

No, the offensive line wasn't that bad. Only offensive line ignorant people think so.

I would think he would complicate any performance incentives a lot.

Pardon?

I watched the same game. Watched the linemen whiff and miss blocks.
Watched them be unsure of what to do on blitz pick ups, like they had never seen them before. Saw inside runs that had the defensive tackles slice right into the backfield on damn near every attempt.

Only idiots who dont know the first thing about football would have missed it.
And a fool to think the OLine outplayed the QBs.

not cool huh?

That's what I was thinking. Also to your other points, I would not take anything less than fair market value for my work, and I can't understand why anyone would. The average NFL career is short, and the guy has to make his money while he can. I'm sure most people can't understand how someone would care about 2 million dollars, when they're already making a crazy amount, but they've gotta make the money while they can. Putting all the blame on Ronnie Brown for not signing is ridiculous. If a guy is taken 2nd overall, he should be paid in line with what the 2nd overall pick makes. I think anyone who has faith in Ricky Williams being a Phin for a longtime maybe a bit too optimistic, I don't think anyone even knows what Ricky wants to do, including Ricky, he seems to be about as predictable as the lotto.

The more I hear about this contract business the more I dislike this unproven rookie. You want money and respect, come in and play and THEN get the money you deserve. If he winds up being another Yatil Green, we are screwed royally.

Though I disagree with KB on the greed or fair compensation argument I have to agree with him on the O-line.

Our O-line didn't play bad it was the RB'S, FB'S and TE'S who played horribly blocking wise.

How do you expect 5 guys to block 8 or 9 without help? When u have 2 guys coming at you u 9 times out of 10 can't block both so you chose 1 expecting your FB or RB back there to pick up the blitz and help in blocking. When the RB or FB decides to not pick up the blits or d-man but instead continues and runs his routes then the O-line is gonna look bad.

It's like acting. When someone forgets their line and the other person covers for them and adlibs, EVERY SINGLE TIME, the person who did the adlib and covered for the other is ALWAYS the one who looks like he or she messed up and forgot the lines.

So in this case the O-line is the adlib where the RB'S and FB'S are the line forgetters lol!!!

22 carries for 39 yards by 5 different running backs. (1.77 per)

There was absolutley no push in the middle of the offensive line. None.

I guess thats not bad though.

I do agree that the blitz pick up was bad by the RBs, but it was just as bad by the OLine. If you say "Our O-line didn't play bad", then what would happen if they did have a bad game? Negative rushing for the nite? 3 hurt QBs? Lord have mercy.

Damn you guys for making sit through the recording of it again.

Saban said that recent shuffling in the line may have contributed to the poor running game and sacks of Feeley and Frerotte. He also hinted at more changes if the unit didn't improve.

Saban disagrees. Directly pointing out the line woes and going so far to say changes might be in order due the line play. Because of the good line play? Because of the average line play? Because of the "not so bad" line play? No, because of the bad line play. People ignorant of the line play would think otherwise.

Based on Ricky's age and whats he's done in the recent past as our starter, there's no way I'd want an incentive based contract. Regardless of how much Ricky may have slipped, or on how good Brown thinks he is compared to Ricky, its just a gamble that I wouldnt take. I think thats part of the problem they have had getting a deal done.

Man, this guy had better not be a bust.

That's right. These guys play hard ball and try to get as much money as they can. If they don't live up to their hype, the fans will turn on them, and turn on them viciously. Just ask Sammie Smith.
If Ronnie Brown is even an average player and he affects the cap for the next 5 yrs, you bet the fans are going to be rough on him.
I don't mind a rookie promoting himself, but he damn well better be able to back it up on the field.
