Jon Martin Thoughts?

How many options do you think we are going to have? I don't see many.

Next to none. Explore trade interest and options approaching the draft. It's possible we could hand him to some team in return for moving up during a late round. That would at least allow us to save face and be satisfied that at least we got something in return. Besides, during the draft with so much going on a Martin trade would be relegated to second or third tier news, which is probably best.

I meant other options on the OL. :)

F**K Jon Martin I hope he never plays another down in the NFL, he's a P***Y! We didn't need his bull**** distraction he's a 300 pound marshmallow....so soft.

While I never thought much of his talent and was vocal about both his lack of skill and the fact that I didn't think he was a starter or even a good draft pick, I have no issue at all with what Martin did. In fact, he may have done the organization a favor in forcing them to walk away from Incognito. Given the state of the offensive line, I think it likely the team would have re-upped Richie the Groper and allowed his presence to cause even more distractions. And if what happened between Martin and Incognito played a role in getting Ross to finally cut ties with Ireland, then Martin did this team two favors. The door is now wide open for better players to step into leadership roles and for a better GM to assemble the kind of talent we've been so lacking for far too long ...and there ain't a damn thing wrong with that outcome.

And you're gonna give me better options, if it comes down to it, to make our team better? Who are they? I care about our team and could care less of pointless opinions of what makes posters happy. I just wanna win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember seeing a lot of hate for Ricky Williams back in the day around these parts when he quit. Different reasons, different situation, different skill set...and yet same attitudes towards him.

I personally don't care. If he stays, if he can play he plays, if he is a reserve then he's a reserve.

I don't think most players will really mess around much with him so as to not get in trouble with Philbin. I am sure he'll be watching closely now.

The REAL question is, how bad does he really want to be a football player? Because if he does want to play, he will suit up and play. If he thinks he can just refuse to play here and go somewhere else for big money he's got a surprise coming. At best, if released he'll get a one year min. deal and that's it. If he chooses that route, good luck to him because I doubt it'll bring him any success.

His only chance at fixing this 'issue' is to come here, work his butt off and prove he wasn't a bad draft pick. THEN can he go out into the market and demand big money. He'll have fixed his image some too by proving that he was man enough to come back here and suit up, despite the controversy, and work on his craft.

The hate for Ricky was unbelievable. I was concerned that some delusional fan would shoot him. It got ugly.

It's a difficult situation. Part of me would easily say drop him, cut your losses, his mistakes have hurt the Dolphins franchise enough for one season.

But another side says perhaps Miami should allow him into training camp to compete, all the while, still pursue linemen in the draft / FA heavily as though Martin is indeed gone. Give him one camp/season to compete to be on an NFL roster. If he can handle it, and regain respect from the team, then Miami can win big in the press's eyes, and wash away the big smears from last season. Have Dungy and the Legion of Code of Conduct make their changes to the facility's "culture", and see how it goes.

If Martin can't make the cut with the team, be it his fault or the team's, well, its not like Miami didn't offer that second chance. Then you can drop him with no questions from the press, and certainly no lawsuits from Martin.

Sorry. I missed that completely.

I could throw out all the standard names in free agency and the draft but I'd be guessing. Every scenario is so low percentage on its own merit that I no longer like to guess as frequently as I once did.

Nobody on our current roster strikes me as an option. If Dallas Thomas somehow become field worthy it will be at guard not tackle. Garner is stop gap. I hope the new general manager has higher aspirations and starts weeding out guys like that. We got a few good games out of McKinnie then he weakened, which was logical and which would be the ongoing trend.

Maybe late '60s was this bad on the offensive line. I'd have to go back and check my memory bank as a kid.

Martin became a laughingstock. That's why you can't bring him back, no matter the field particulars. Too many fans would view him as representative of their franchise and city as weakling if he returned. I don't agree with that assessment, but it's the bottom line. If we somehow thought our old logo was weak then a guy who walked away gets that tag forever.

I would be open to giving him the opportunity to make the roster. However, if he didn't show significant improvement, I'd cut him. He was underperforming badly at the time of incident.
I'm still of the belief that he had a mini breakdown. Many mental health disorders like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder can be successfully treated with the correct medication. Some people who are bipolar don't like taking their medication because they get their kicks out of their manic state.
I don't know what happened but I'm inclined to believe Richie's Dad when he made comments to the effect that Martin was suicidal. I'm pretty sure that J-Mart is embarrassed about his public implosion but I'd give him the chance to show what he can do (especially without Incognito in the room).
While most have embraced the "Martin's a snake" theory, I would not be surprised if Coach Philbin sticks his neck out to give J-Mart a second chance.

How can you be embarrassed and show up at a Stanford game, smiling and yucking it up? Just doesn't sit right with me. He made his bed, let him squirm in it.
