Jonnu Smith not at mandatory minicamp

You can disagree with me, but the math doesn’t lie. The Dolphins have been in fantastic shape in regard to the cap for a while now. Grier doesn’t manage the cap.

The secondary is bare because Ramsey decided to up and leave. And on paper it may seem bare to us, but let’s at least play a few games before we declare that the team sucks.

Again, the Dolphins, if they had wanted to, could have signed Hunt and Wilkins and made them some of the highest paid at their positions. They had the money. Like the Raiders and Panthers did, but that would have been stupid.
Grier is the GM. He is responsible for everything going on in this organization good or bad. Unless Ross stepped in and said give new contracts to all these players wanting more.
Not sure what math you are doing that “doesn’t lie” but we’ve had to restructure a bunch of deals just to bargain shop. We’ve been in cap hell my dude. And as for Ramsey, why are we catering to everything these players want? How about NO we aren’t trading you. Play or sit out and don’t get paid.

The math is the math. Restructuring is one way teams play the cap and all teams do it. The Dolphins haven’t ever been in “cap hell” with Shore in charge…not even close. Brandon Shore, who is in charge of the cap, negotiates with players and reps, and other things, has done a really good job. Again, “cap hell” is spouted by Miami fans nearly every offseason only to see the Dolphins once again with $50m, $70m, and even $80m in space. Then everyone is quiet until it happens again the next year.

If a player sits out he’s still taking up a roster spot. Allowing a player to do that has worked at times in the past, but it’s not the only way to get things done. And I’m not excusing the extensions we’ve given, but without knowing more details I can’t really comment on them.

Let's not act like the man is broke, he as earned 44m in his career and his average yearly salary was 5.5m. Right now he is playing on a 4.2m average salary. If they want to bump that to 5 or 6m in his final two years fine but I ain't breakin' the bank for a 30 year old TE.

I’m not saying this is what we should pay him, but he produced like a top 5 - 7 player and is getting paid like a quality backup. His market value is 2 years for $24 million or so.

Again, I'm not advocating for paying him that.

When we say "let's not act like he is broke," imagine you are in an office.

One of your peers ("Joe") has another 2-3 years left before he retires -- just like you.

You are a better employee than Joe, scored more major accounts than Joe, and showed up for work every day.

Joe gets paid three times as much as you do.

Does it matter to you that you have a nest egg, or do you want to be treated at least the same as Joe?

So what you are saying is is that Joe is the son or son in law of the owner.

If Smith wants more money give him what the baby 🦒 got and be done with it.

I could understand him wanting more money, but I could also understand the dolphins refusing. He had 1 good year, he benefited from teams concentrating on Tyreek Hill, he will be 30 years old when the season starts and to top it all off doesn't block. Sometimes these players tend to overplay their hands and end up out of the league. Xavien Howard comes to mind.

How about, he wants more money that the contract he signed last flucking year? The Phins have said nothing about a trade except apparently Pitt asked and we answered. The key here is not we it's him.
Still weird. Why is no one ever happy here?

If his agent is to be believed -

"Here's what I will say on behalf of my client: Jonnu would definitely like to stay in Miami," Rosenhaus said previously. "That's his first choice. This is where he lives in the offseason. He had a record-breaking season last year. It was the best season ever for a Miami Dolphin tight end. ... He broke the team record for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns for a tight end and was the team's single Pro Bowl player. He's an incredibly valuable part of this team. ... He went to college at FIU. His dream team is the Dolphins.

"Hopefully, everything works out where he can stay in Miami."

I don’t think there’s any evidence that he’s unhappy here.
Fair. But he wants more money. Perhaps every team deals w this drama IDK. Just feels like we have a high share over the last several years of primadonna nonsense w guys like X, Holland, Ramsey, Tyreek on/off etc.

It’s also unlikely he’ll have a repeat season like that based on his historical trends. Trying to cash in for the last time. He’s 30 right?

Right just said something similar before I read your post. It’s unlikely he has a repeat season as good as last year.

It's about time this team stopped throwing money at reworking contracts.......Hill and Ramseys contract nonsense is the reason Smith hasn't already been paid!

I'm not concerned or upset over Jonnu's absence. It's June. And he's a season vet.
