Jonnu Smith not at mandatory minicamp

That is a separate issue. The NFL is generally heading to more and more contract disputes and I have zero sympathy for a player who signs a new deal and then 2 or 3 years later is seeking a brand new deal. They can **** off. Part of team management is trying to navigate the salary cap and allowing the team to grow.

Now as to team culture, it starts at the top and the owner allows it to happen, clean house from the top down or you'll have the same product year in and year out, this year will be no different.
I 100% agree with you but if you fold to every vet that asks for a new contract then every vet will be asking for a new contract. I don’t follow the ins and outs of every team but it seems like we’ve had a lot more problems going on. From letting high level talented players walk because we are too stupid to negotiate at the proper time to just giving every player who cries a new contract to trading players because they don’t want to be here. Can’t please everyone

Smells like Jonnu is about to become a Steeler.

Yeah… two starters for the Chiefs and 2 staters for the Steelers are holding out. Must be the culture developed by their HC’s. Bums….
It goes well beyond that. Every team has players hold out but you have to be smart about the moves you make and don’t make or you end up in cap hell like we’ve been the last 2 years. You also can’t allow a player to dictate the outcome like we are doing with Ramsey. We need Ramsey the player more than anything we’ll get back for him.

We aren’t and haven’t been in cap hell at all.

Grier messed up not working with AVG sooner, but Wilkins and Hunt was business as usual in the NFL. The Dolphins could have paid both, but didn’t want to. They had plenty of money.

And as far as Ramsey is concerned, there’s something we’re not privy to. I don’t think it’s about the money.

This isn’t about team culture, it’s NFL culture.

You don’t see this in the NBA because their players union was able to negotiate fully guaranteed contracts.

In the NFL, nothing is guaranteed except the chance of ending your season or career could happen during any game.

This isn’t about Miami. This is about a violent sport and players career earnings at stake every time they suit up.

It’s just reality.

Injury would put the team at risk on the contract.
That's not why Ramsey is excused. He wouldn't show up to minicamp regardless of whether he was excused or not, so injury wouldn't be a factor either way. He's excused because the intention is to trade him. He will not be on the roster this season. Therefore there's no need for him to be at minicamp, which in turn means that fining him would just be needlessly antagonistic.

He's talking about Jonnu no?

Ramsey is excused because he was obviously the locker room cancer last year. He was obviously the guy routinely late to meetings. Nobody has come to his defense in that locker room and players have already stated how much better the locker room feels this off-season.

Every player that's been asked about Ramsey has said something to the effect of "that's my dawg and I wish him nothing but the best." Don't get me wrong, I'm on team **** Ramsey. And he's also not known for being a great locker room guy in the sense that he's not very vocal/uplifting like you would expect from a team captain. But I don't think he was unpopular at all.

I highly disagree with you on the team not being in cap hell. Why do you think our secondary is so bare? Why do you think with armstead retiring and having terrible G play, all we can afford is an injured G coming off an Achilles tear? Grier has 100% put this team in cap hell the last 2 years. And Wilkins and hunt could’ve been resigned had we done it earlier like he did this yr with waddle. Now we just spent our top 2 draft picks in hopes to replace them

This is a common misconception. The team made Wilkins a fair offer that would have made him a top 10 paid DT after year 4, and his team turned it down because he wanted to play out his 5th year option to increase his market value. As for Hunt, we don't know what could or couldn't have happened. Just because you wanted him to be extended sooner doesn't mean he would have gone for it. But I do think it's fair to say that the deal he eventually got from Carolina was astronomical, and there's no way Miami could or even should have tried to compete with it.
