Jonnu Smith Trade?

Which is dumber?

1. Pay Jonnu the 4.5m he is due this year and let him walk next year for nothing
2. Extend Jonnu at the going rate say $10 per annum for two years (see the Theo Johnson contract or Noah Fant from last year)
3. Trade him whilst he at a high value now for asset either that's a pick or player

That is the conundrum.

Even if you’re right about him not being a top 3 option this yr he would be next yr when hill is gone. You don’t draft based on what you’re getting from a rookie year 1.
I understand that thinking, but that’s also telling all our players we’re really not worried about this year. My thinking is he’ll help create more 3rd and longs this year as an immediate impact, helping our weak secondary and feeding into our strengths of pass rushers

If we're gonna sell this season, trade him. Sucks, but it is what it is. I've been lurking around Steelers boards and they generally aren't cool with the trade. They are more worried about a QB. I get it.

It’s his preference with the condition that we pay him. It’s either pay me or trade me. That doesn’t come across as a guy who really wants to be here. Specially since trading him won’t guarantee him a new contract.
He outperformed his contract and would like to be paid fair market value. Did he say pay me or trade me? I read it more like the Dolphins would rather trade him than pay him. Trading him would not guarantee him a new contract, but you'd have to think the team trading for him understands what he's looking for, and thus willing to pay him if they're willing to give up assets for him. Either way, none of it sounded to me like he didn't want to be here. You guys just look for stuff to self-hate about lol.

I like Jonnu but I'm not seeing the wisdom in a pay-raise/extension. Also, I would rather get a player than a draft pick

There is some vagueness in what Jonnu is asking for, other than a re-worked contract.

He could be looking for a contract over a longer time frame with more money; but spread across the new contract length of time.

That's what I would do if I were him, especially since he claims he prefers staying with the Dolphins.

That doesn’t make much sense. So it’s hey Grier I want more money, then grier said no and I’m trading you? Doesn’t sound right
Do half the things Grier does? That's what's being reported by his agent, who has a good working relationship with the Phins...

You guys are all losing the forest through the trees. They trade back in the draft, for picks next year, when they are full of holes this year. They are considering trading Jonnu Smith, when they have little talent at the TE position. Trading Ramsey when they have no CBs. Has Grier been told his job his guaranteed for next year? Same for McDaniel? They are both sure acting like it.
This is a strong possibly. I also think they are listening to Brandon shore more and he didn’t want to give out big money to tua Ramsey and hill. He got Ross ear.

I also think they are going to 21 personal and if Jonu wants more money. Ross and shore are saying no. We did that before with examples above. Not doing it any more. Take it or leave it Jonu

Either way this is transition year and it’s 50 50 if McDaniel and Grier are back without playoff appearance this year. If we miss playoffs could they be back? You might be right. But I think Ross is not happy about the contracts that they gave out and is saying make this work. Then let’s see what happens.

Now we prob miss playoffs because we are Miami. But there is a decent chance these guys are back based on the moves unless we only win 4-6 games and a big name is available like Tomlin.

I am just guessing. But anything is possible. And I think I am right that Brandon shore and Ross are saying no more adjusting contracts.

Or they could be trying to force Junnu to take a deal they are more comfortable with.
Junnu house is for sale. So this trade might be close.
Either way this is good news from all parties of fans. Floor falls out we get top ten pick and new everything or we make playoffs.

Now my fear is we win 8 or 9 games and it stays the same. Which I think is your fear too.
