Lamar Miller- 5th in NFL rushing yard / 2nd in YPC

Moreno has a 5.5 ypc so far so add that to Miller's 5.7 and the team looks like it can run the ball. The issue is opportunities though. Even yesterday at one point the Dolphins had 20 passes to 7 runs. Sure it worked vs. Oakland but more balance will be needed the rest of the year.

Add in DT playing well in limited play, and there are 3 RB's who can impact a game. Going to be interesting on how Lazor uses them with all the weapons at receiver.

This is a play we can run or pass out of. Oakland decides they're not going to let us run it here and only puts one DB up top. Now, you can laugh at the Oakland coaching staff, but if they send 3 DBs up there, Lamar Miller gashes them on an inside run.

This is how you create rushing opportunities. Coach Benton deserves a lot of credit for the improved rushing attack this season, but so does Bill Lazor.

I think that will depends on a couple of factors. Whether the running game is working the way it did against New England or if Tannehill is clicking the way he did against Oakland.

Right side of the OL got straight up abused in pass pro vs the Chiefs, especially in the 2nd half. It happens. Satele and Thomas need to be replaced after the bye.

Also, keep in mind that play design helps the running game a lot, as Digital alludes to. We're creating space with the way we line up when we run the ball. The Raiders were faced with a choice between having enough guys in the box to defend the run or lining up 3 DBs over on the far side of the field yesterday, and they chose several times to keep guys in the box to defend the run. #17, #11, and #10 made them pay for that.

So far, the only one on the OL who has been consistently good to VG, pass and run, has been Albert, who was not supposed to be able to run block. Everyone else has been up and down, run and pass, in the first four games.

There's also the receiving part of our RB's, which is being used much more under Lazor.

Its also a trap play for the defense. In the formation the Raiders are in, we elected the pass option because of how they line up. The DE/OLB could run out to the flat to intercept or deflect the pass, or just makes the tackle on the WR behind the LOS if they had been expecting a screen. Its an easily defensible play if you know what the options are. I'd be surprised if Lazor runs that play again now that its on film.

It is because of those options that it is not an easily defensible play, especially if the QB read the defense correctly.

It wasn't easily defensible in the Oakland game because the options were unkown. Now they are known. See what I'm saying? I doubt we see that play for a while, if at all. I doubt we pull a Sherman and run the same plays over and over. Lazor hasn't shown himself to be a play recycler.

Sure, but it's something you can trot out every now and then, especially if you are running up-tempo, and try to catch the defense off-guard with.

The pass was close to being intercepted if you look at it. #27 jumped the play but came up literally short.

Hickey, Lazor and Benton deserve a lot of credit here.

Hickey got the pieces, Benton has coached them up and Lazor brought a great modern day approach for a successful run game with his spread offense. In short, the spread offense creates running lanes and creases that traditional sets (I-form, pro-set, 12 singleback, etc.) are not able to.

Now we just need a little more balance in out play calling.

there`s another play they can run off of that on the opposite side of the field, which was the TD that was called back for holding... I wouldnt be surprised if there are other wrinckles to that formation...

If the options were known? Is that not what options are. Having more than one choice. Based on the formation, there were two options. Run if the defense tries to be balanced or protect itself against the run or pass if the numbers on the outside are favorable. In this case the numbers were favorable on the outside so it was an easy option for Tannehill.

You are right, Lazor probably won't run the same play over and over but he doesn't have to. He can run the WR screen from various formations with or without the run option design.

Defenses baits the offense into making a throw, and disguises what they are doing, like if they see that formation they can have the DE/OLB defend that pass. Rex Ryan does this a lot. Anyways, its not a play you have in your bread basket anyways. Teams will prerp for it now, and I doubt we use it anytime soon.
