Larry Johnson Practicing with the First Team

I think it's significant because I feel like this team is going to do the same old bull**** we had to deal with the past two years, take away carries from the guy who's hot. There were lots of times Ronnie was feeling it and Sparano would put him on the sides and give it to Ricky or Ricky was feeling it and he would take Ricky out and put Ronnie back in. I hated that ****. I want our best player to be out there as much as he can, and as of right now that's Reggie Bush. Only times Reggie should not be the primary running back is at situational goal line plays, or after a huge gain to catch a breather, or at 3rd down plays where we probably have no shot of converting, or when he's on the slot with DT as the running back.

1st team reps are 1st team reps. It is significant. Especially since some of you were just calling him camp fodder. It only gets really interesting though if it continues.

I think that might be the way they do it, but the running back may be Larry Johnson and not Daniel Thomas.

Personally I don't think that's a bad thing. If we want to win now, I'd rather have Larry Johnson spelling Reggie Bush than an unproven rookie.

He has to get snaps with the 1's to evaluate him. If you put him behind the crappy OL with the 2's, it is harder to determine where he is at. He will be with the 2's and 3's soon enough.

He needs the reps . . . and for all the crap DT is taking, this kid showed vision, quick feet and the ability to hold up in pass protection. Larry is there to be a in between the tackles guy. We needed 4 RB's, there isn't much out there right now . . . it doesn't hurt bringing in a vet to see whats left in the tank before all of the cuts to see if there is an improvement out there. He might surprise us on Saturday.

So the rookie who's supposedly going to have the fairly prominent role of sharing carries with the starter loses the reps he desperately needs to develop, so that we can evaluate a guy who's going to be nothing more than a 2nd- or 3rd-teamer?

That doesn't make sense. The more logical explanation is that Johnson is being targeted for the role of sharing carries with the starter.

“As I told Larry, I’m not asking him to be anything more than he is right now,” coach Tony Sparano said Tuesday. “I’m not asking him to be the man. I just want him to come in and be a piece on this football team.

“That’s it.”

Guys, lets not over analyze like we do everything, this is NOT significant news. It is late in training camp and they have two weeks to see if he is worth even putting on the 53 man roster. He needs the reps to see what he has left in the tank. He is not "taking away reps" from Thomas, because I think at times guys like Sheets and Grigsby worked with the first team.

They need to see if he can get a push with the starting O-line... Don't be surprised if he takes a Bettis type role for short yardage and goal line... That is a big if but it could happen... He is not going to get more carries that Bush or Thomas but Thomas showed last week that he needs to work on short yardage running and Johnson can help with that...

When you get a new toy you play with it. If you don't like it you take it back. (release)

SO in essence the signing is making them contradict the Reggie signing and or who is the starter? It is odd that LJ is taking precious reps from the "true" starters. Perhaps this is another sign of Sparano not understanding what he is doing or even how to properly evaluate talent.

This makes even more sense if this was on the goalline . . . OP do you know where they were on the field?

maybe he's got a little more reserve in the tank than it would seem. (he's certainly had plenty of idle time to recharge his bttys) :idk:
