Leinart

But, Leinhart is truly a "franchise" quarterback. I know Ditka was burned for his drafting of Ricky, but I would do it. Davey i've seen play, not to shabby, but I'd still go for Leinhart.

You don't know Leinart is a "true franchise QB", you're only making an educated guess. Since most of us are in agreement that we'll be at least 0.500 next season, it would cost us an arm and a leg and many, many draft picks to move up 20 spots to get Leinart. He's not worth it. Plus, even if we did, we'd have to tie up all our money in a few years on 2 people in our offense. Saban would NEVER do this. He wants what most of us want, a balanced team.

yes, that's a given that Bush, Williams and the defense had a major hand in those as well. But, he wouldn't mind seeing Leinhart and brown in our backfield. It's a dream scenario yes, but it's not out of the realm of thought, if we want him that much. And, true our offensive line has to gel this year, if not, we'll be picking up one of those 4 tackles coming out.

NO NO and NO. Rohan Davey(LSU) backup to Brady and FA next year will be the guy!

did you see him throw in college?

he would toss teh football like hes throwing a wad of paper in to the trash can, but the football would go 40 yards.

i was saddened when he was drafted by the pats. :shakeno:

i thaught he was gunna be a good NFL QB with an arm and his size.

I don't think i'm giving him too much credit, he has won 2 national titles, and a heisman. I'd say that is something we could definately build on. I hope AJ does well this year, cuz I don't want to have to watch Ronnie trying to tackle big Defensive Tackles taking it to the endzone. Was that jay or AJ who threw that one?

Jason White won a heisman, almost a 2nd, and came close to a national title, but no team will even return his phone calls for a tryout. Gino Torreta won the Heisman and played in the national championship (won?), he sucked. Now, I do believe Leinart will be a good QB, but it has almost nothing to do with his college resume/record. On the flip side, Peyton Manning lost many of his big games as a college QB, but is now considered one of the 3 best QB's in the NFL.

I'm sure we all agree that we are pretty thin at QB. Honestly, if AJ doesn't pan out I sure don't want to put faith in, Gus "smack my head up" Frerrote, or even Sage. We truly need to address that position.

We don't have to. With all of the QB talent in the NFL a good QB will be available when we pick. That was the reason Rogers and Big Ben dropped. The same thing will happen next year. Leinart is overrated and a good QB will be there for us.

I don't think you can ever compare Ryan Leaf to Leinhart, with that debacle, these QB's are dissected from head to toe.

WHICH one? AJ threw one almost every single game (an INT returned for a TD). I like Matt Leinert a lot, but people are right, you just never know how he will translate into the NFL, and no, I wouldn't give up a bunch of picks for him. The Heisman doesn't garuntee NFL success (see: Jason White, Eric Crouch, Chris Weinke, Ron Dayne, Danny Wuerffel, and so on and so on), nor does winning the national title (see: Jason White, Ken Dorsey etc etc). While I think Leinert will do good in the NFL, I wouldn't waste a draft on him because he hasn't proven ANYTHING at the NFL level, if we were in the spot to take him, I'd be 100% for it now that we got our RB, but if we had to do some crazy trade that gave a bunch of picks or current good Dolphins, then no way.

I'm still trying to figure out who threw the one right into the gut of the DT and took it to the house. I've never seen a throw like that ever. I have my money on AJ. Hopefully, next draft the teams below us, don't need a QB. I'm sure the 49ers will be picking in the top 5 again.

You have,

Rohan Davey,
David Garrard
Tim Hasselback
JT O'Sullivan
I'm forgetting a few..

set to hit free agency next year.

You also have Either Drew Brees or Phillip Rivers available via trade. So my answer would be emphatically "NO"!!!

???? i don't see a name here that can be a franchise qb. i also think that leainart may be a product of norm chow's offense, but if he turns out like carson palmer trading up may be tempting.....this thread would have been much more relevant had we traded down this year and stockpiled picks for 2006

If the team needs a QB that badly next year, our record will be similar to the 4-12 we just suffered through. So it's possible a trade wouldn't even be required. However, I think most of us here have a reasonable expectation that the team will be much better this season, which means the price to get Leinert will be eay too steep.

Favre and Young weren't franchise QB's until they got a shot somewhere else. You just don't know with young players.
