Main reason not to start Tannehill: the WR's

We finally draft a QB and now dudes want to bury him on the depth chart and hide him on the bench.

Run his ass out there for the entire first half against Carolina and find out what he is.

We need to know right now if this kid sucks or not.

Personally, I think he's the goods. Put him out there and let him play. Why else did we draft him.

The NFL has made it too easy to stick a rookie QB under center and watch him succeed. We need to take advantage of that.

If Tannehill is GREAT he'll make those scrub receivers that we have good.

We drafted him for the future...he looked good in his first preseason game, but lets relax.

If Moore doesn't step up, and there isn't much difference in both of their performances in preseason....I agree, we should think of starting him...but let's not overreact and throw him in just because we saw a good sign in the 2nd half of the 1st preseason game.

So find out what you have. Andrew Luck played the entire first half yesterday. I know Tannehill isn't in Luck's league, but find out what he's capable of today.

And if he fails, there's always abortion.

Tanny Hill (as the Bucs commentators were calling him) stands out from any QB we've had since Marino, IMO. He has a rifle, and he put some balls RIGHT where they needed to be. He also is deceiving in his athleticism. Its like watching someone cheesing in Madden. The only negatives I saw in that first game were some poor decision making, more than likely due to lack of experience with his new team.. PLAY THE MAN! Something tells me he is going to get better and better.

Yeah, hes not Andrew Luck out of the gate, but give him some time! Tanny Hill will develop into something really special. Luck is the best QB in the draft, but he is also a recipient of some Tebow-like treatment. I heard raves about his 68 yard touchdown. I thought it was a bomb. No one mentioned it was a friggen screen pass.

Also, RT deserves a couple of years before we label him an abortion. He should get at least as much time as we gave Henne.

You guys are being pretty pessimistic. Chill out a little and give these guys a chance. Fasano and Egnew can end up being a decent combo and Clay is a beast, come on. R. Wallace is coming along and looked good against the Bucs. Pruitt made a couple nice catches and when you throw in Bush and Miller out of the backfield, Tannehill has plenty of options.

If you draft a QB 8th overall then you must think he's the type of guy that can make the players around him better. What are we supposed to do, wait until we build a super team of all stars before he plays?? Never gonna happen.
He's the best QB on the roster and he's an NFL player not a baby. Tannehill needs to play and develop, and more importantly we need to find out how good he is sooner than later.

Fasano, Clay, Bess and Bush are pretty good options if you ask me and Roberto Wallace has been knocking on the door for a couple years now. We finally have a legit offensive mind to develop these guys. Wallace is gonna break out

So you want to keep our QB of the future off the field in the present because you're scared our 2nd and 3rd tier WRs will stunt his growth? if you were concerned about our pass pro linemen I'd tend to agree, a bad line would do more to hinder his growth and production than our WRs. If you got a good QB, you can overcome crappy Wrs. In fact with our Running backs and Tight ends, i'm not really concerned about the WR core.

(Things I'm willing to admit... if he shows up with a decent or better 1st string performance vs carolina... start tannehill now, not later... going against my previous opinion of letting him ride the bench this season)

When will you be concerned about the WR core?

There are plenty of QBs that have been thrown out too early, and it has been detrimental to their career. There is no reason to rush Tanny, esp when all our WRs will be easily single covered, are completely unproven, and a running game that is not impressive....

If Moore doesn't separate himself on the field this preseason, I uncomfortably would give Tanny the start. But if we were going with what would be best case scenario for his future....IMO it would be bench for the beginning of the season.

Did I say I wasn't concerned? I said I wasn't concerned with them affecting Tannehill's growth. If he's doing his job and knows the offense and the WR runs the wrong route, that isn't on Tannehill, and if he's more worried about his stats (IE WR running the wrong route and results in a pick6) then he's not the QB we think he is. No a shoddy line would be much worse with blindside hits etc.

The kid has 3 more preseason games to prove he can play. If he has 2 out of the next 3 games like he just had then he has to be the starter. I think Moore has to beat him out not the other way around. If the race is close you have to start the young guy. We aint making the playoffs anyways. And i dont think it will hurt him because he has been way better then any other young QB we have had here since u know who. The others were stunted because they were on a bad team but also were not very good cuz none of them did anything else where. Ryan needs to start unless Moore really seperates himself in the next 3 weeks or so.

You can argue that Bradford hard an even worse unit his rookie season

he threw one TD pass...he wasn't lighting the world on fire. He also should have had a long pick-6 with a better corner out there.

Other QBs had growth stunted being on a bad team? Thanks for agreeing with me...

Poor Wr core won't affect his play or how we evaluate his progress? Ok...

Any ints will be looked at negatively....nobody will blame a WR everytime a pick is thrown, even if the WR is always at fault. Also, we don't need a young QB in interviews being hounded with any INTs that he may make an offhand comment that will be misconstrued 21 different ways until it comes back to the team negatively. With the team then questioning his mental state.

And how happy would you be with him at QB right now? Think his confidence took a hit since he entered the league?

Fans care about stats, Not Good QBs, Not Coaches, Not Gms. We're doing the same thing here that the browns are going to try with Weeden. building from the center out. which makes the most sense having great Wrs, and then having a ****ty line and the qb doesn't have time to throw the ball? ideally you'd put the Qb out there with probowl talent all around him, but no team outside of a few dynasties has that luxury.
