Hayden - I love your passion for our team but specifically why are you so negative towards Coach Philbin? What I see is a smart guy who is very well organized and he has a detailed plan that he is progressively implementing. The key to his plan is teaching, skill development and discipline of the players. He is very introverted and not very effusive in front of the cameras and so not the sort of guy to shine in the limelight (like Rex Ryan, etc) but I don't think that is all that important if he gets results. One could hardly consider Bill Belichick a media charmer, he would prefer to just give his name, rank and serial number at the press conferences.
In contrast with Philbin, I had zero confidence in Tony Sparano. He got the job because he was a loyal soldier to Bill Parcells. He worked incredible hours (I heard somewhere he worked 17 -18 hours per day every day). Apparently he had a fascination for statistical detail of his players and could accurately announce how many snaps every single player had for every game, tackles, yards, etc. These were good attributes for an assistant but not for a Head Coach and it was a fine day when he ultimately left the building. The team was going nowhere.
This season we are 5:5 and have been competitive in 4 of the 5 losses. We were totally outclassed in New Orleans but not the first to be in that boat. While we are in all these close games, I think that there is a lack of killer attitude in the team. The New England game was going very well at half time and then Brady just took command and grabbed it by the throat. I haven't seen Miami kill off a competitor and I sense that we will be average until we do.
I stand behind Coach Philbin for a further year unless he is involved in issuing a "code red" to Jonathan Martin.
