Mando: Advice for Steve Ross to Clean Mess

Hayden - I love your passion for our team but specifically why are you so negative towards Coach Philbin? What I see is a smart guy who is very well organized and he has a detailed plan that he is progressively implementing. The key to his plan is teaching, skill development and discipline of the players. He is very introverted and not very effusive in front of the cameras and so not the sort of guy to shine in the limelight (like Rex Ryan, etc) but I don't think that is all that important if he gets results. One could hardly consider Bill Belichick a media charmer, he would prefer to just give his name, rank and serial number at the press conferences.
In contrast with Philbin, I had zero confidence in Tony Sparano. He got the job because he was a loyal soldier to Bill Parcells. He worked incredible hours (I heard somewhere he worked 17 -18 hours per day every day). Apparently he had a fascination for statistical detail of his players and could accurately announce how many snaps every single player had for every game, tackles, yards, etc. These were good attributes for an assistant but not for a Head Coach and it was a fine day when he ultimately left the building. The team was going nowhere.
This season we are 5:5 and have been competitive in 4 of the 5 losses. We were totally outclassed in New Orleans but not the first to be in that boat. While we are in all these close games, I think that there is a lack of killer attitude in the team. The New England game was going very well at half time and then Brady just took command and grabbed it by the throat. I haven't seen Miami kill off a competitor and I sense that we will be average until we do.
I stand behind Coach Philbin for a further year unless he is involved in issuing a "code red" to Jonathan Martin.

I think Philbin will be a very good HC and as far as whats happened , i dont see Ross letting him go over , but IMO i think we need to keep Joe atleast for another year or 2 , if anything the GM has worn out his welcome , maybe Philbin IF Ross lets jeff go , let philbin bring in a GM that can get along with him while he proves to be a HC for us ..

The team has been average at best. We are 5-5 and Philbin and Ireland happen to be a big reason why we have an average team. We need to clean house

There are a ton things I do not like about Philbin and this staff.
* He has underachieved with the talent he has
* He has no interest in taking a talented, but troubled or outspoken player (Marshall, Davis or Dansby) and try to mold him as part of his team.
* His teams never play "above their heads" to come away with a win
* When his teams have additional time to get ready, they do not demonstrate preparedness
* The team lacks a killer instinct to put the game away
* Getting off to a fast starts and turnover differential are rarely accomplished by his players though he is stressing them in practice and in meetings supposedly
* I do not think he gives the team an intellectual advantage on game day
* He and his staff have lost the balance to being committed versus stubborn
* His staff is not developing young players

Joe is not worth so much to keep him around based on the things I have listed and the investigation that Martin's complaints....albeit ridiculous...have created.

Get rid of Toody and Muldoon (Ireland and Philbin), what are you crazy?

Cant fault him for this one...Who wants to play the role of millionaire baby sitter when you have a NFL team waiting for you next week.

A coach that wants to win.

They are one of the least penalized teams in the league
The turnover differential is even
They have won late in three of their 5 victories
The team still plays hard for him
I see young players like Mathews, Clay and Tannehill all developing
No one inside blames him for the Martin crap, they probably don't even care at this point

I agree on the penalties stat...that is excellent
TO differential being EVEN is not good enough for the team to win
The team dropped an entire month of games after winning 3 to start the year
The team playing hard...inconsistent is a better word
I do not agree that three players improving is enough to say players are getting better

Martin is a snake, but Joe will pay the price for it in the end.

You said they don't develop young players, I was just showing you where they did.
This coach and staff are doing good things and bad, I'm giving credit where it's due.

We have also seen minor improvement from guys like Thomas, Wilson, Misi and Egnew.

The "Green Bay" way is not the answer... how is that "system" doing without Rodgers? And, Philbin/Sherman just don't like to run the ball. They have their offense all mapped out in their heads, but when the players can't execute it to perfection they just stand by and watch... no personnel changes, no scheme changes, nothing to take advantage of the talent on the field. To them, changing the system is blasphemy; it's the players that need to be changed. I don't want a coaching staff that can't be flexible. It would be a huge waste of time and effort to give these guys 2-3 more years to get the players needed to run their system. When things aren't working in their favor during a game they don't have the ability to make meaningful and efficient adjustments, and 3 years from now when an opponent shuts down their system they'll still be scratching their heads on the sideline.

Great point. Shula used to adapt to his players, and Belichick does too. It is no coincidence that both are winners. They both believe in having a great QB that can call the game on the field.
