Mando's new blog: History between Aponte and Ireland

Maybe the new GM likes Philbin. Everyone is speculating the new GM will not.

Maybe a GM is repelled from the job because he has to keep Philbin?

---------- Post added at 01:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:37 PM ----------

For ****'s sake man. Everyone in the entire ****ing internet knows you want Philbin gone. You've said it in literally every ****ing thread since we found out Ireland is out. Shut the **** up about it already. Jesus ****ing christ...

I just don't see that Hayden. Ross maybe asks him for 1 year, but not indefinitely. A strong GM will use that time very wisely then decide yea or nay after the year's up.

I think most people agree that what Armando reported has truth to it. Heck, we had this discussion last night.

The problem is not that we think Armando is making things up. The problem is that Armando is basically just throwing out hit pieces ghostwritten by Jeff Ireland. It's laughable. Yup, I'm sure there was a lot of infighting at the end -- in fact, we basically knew it before this article even came out.

But Armando's speculation that nobody wants the job and that we are going to be stuck with Mike Tannenbaum (a name NOBODY else has even mentioned) makes you wonder what his agenda is here.

Here is my .02 cents for what it is worth. This GM hire is for the next 5-7 years of the organizations future. I want the best for the organization and I want no obstacles holding it back. Ross gets this hire wrong and we continue to follow the path of the Browns. I think Armando was on to something there was to much dysfunction in our front office, but people hate him so it's was a farce. Now that Darlington has confirmed it people believe it. Apante is like a politician she is agenda driven and plays all sides the new GM shouldn't have to deal with her.

Being anxious to have Philbin fired is clouding your common sense.

I am ANXIOUS to have a winner to cheer for actually. The road they are going down will not produce a winner, but a loser.

Darlington weights in

From what I hear, @ArmandoSalguero was spot on about Miami’s end-of-season dysfunction within management ranks: http://hrld.us/1ihwAFE

However, I still believe the dysfunction of Ireland vs. Aponte/Philbin does not mean this job opening is radioactive. Allow me to explain...

Jeff Darlington ‏@JeffDarlington 1m
Although Steve Ross was willing to keep Ireland in a lessened role, my understanding is the new hire has potential to possess the power.

Jeff Darlington ‏@JeffDarlington 51s
The elimination of Ireland and Sherman quell some of dysfunctional equation. The more concerning question is: Can Ross now get this right?

Jeff Darlington ‏@JeffDarlington 53s
Plenty of people around the NFL tell me the role still merits major consideration for top-tier candidates. Now, it’s up to Ross to sell it.

Jeff Darlington ‏@JeffDarlington 26s
It’s a coveted job for number of reasons: 1. One of healthiest caps in NFL. 2. Young, talented QB. 3. Strong nucleus. 4. Non-frugal owner.

Which is what many of us have been saying all along. There aren't to many GM jobs that come up which have all of these attributes.

These articles reek of the fear Ireland has been spewing for the last 6 years.

Aponte may be some power hungry a-hole but if she got Ireland fired, we should all send her thank you cards!

Plus she'll be gone when the NFL comes to her with a job. She's not long term. Ireland had the potential to be, so I'm grateful for her work.

Jeff Ireland was despised by a broad segment of the league. The NFLPA doesn't like him. Execs and owners around the league have been telling "NFL Insiders" for months now that they don't even understand how Jeff still has a job.

Do you really think those same people around the league are going to give a **** that the coach and capologist couldn't get along with him and tried to convince the owner to boot his ass out?

You said the magic words. "Ross gets this hire wrong and..."

That's the key. Ross gets this hire right and it's not an issue. I'm not a fan of Dawn Aponte, but she has done a good job managing the cap. You can not dispute that. This team has a healthy roster that just signed several big money free agents and still has a TON of room to sign more free agents this offseason. We went from recurring cap mini-hell to having one of the absolute best cap situations in the NFL under Dawn Aponte.

I'm sorry. I wish all the Parcells folks would get gone and stay gone, and I wouldn't mind if Dawn Aponte takes the job with the league office, but she has done a good job.

Tell me which GM in the NFL hires his coach without input from the owner. Tell me which one, other than Ted Thompson (team owned by the residents of Green Bay) ?

Omar Khan in Pittsburgh did NOT hire Mike Tomlin. The Rooney family did. Who hired Coughlin? The Maras. Who hired and fired Gary Kubiak? Bob McNair. Who hired Sean Payton? Tom Benson.

Where does this idea that the GM picks the coach come from? The GM can be involved in the process and have input, but since when is the GM assumed to have control over the coaching search? This is crazy. Even in Oakland, where Mark Davis basically just handed the keys over to Reggie McKenzie and said "please save this mess," Mark Davis has final say over Dennis Allen's fate. The Spanos family picked Mike McCoy, btw.

NONE of the examples you gave were shotgun marriages. NONE. They are all bad examples on your part.

Miami is looking at a forced marriage unless they give Brian Gaine the post or they have someone that is cozy with Aponte. That limits your list.

I think people have more of an issue of the tone Mando took, which to me, comes off less as a journalist and more of a crestfallen lover. Plus some of the things he says is so obviously one sided it's horrible journalism. BUT I don't doubt that Ireland tried to get Aponte fired, nor do I doubt that Aponte sided with Philbin (stuff that had been reported this year).

I'm sure Armando has the information at his disposal to actually put together a very good article about the issues, but this wasn't it

Here's what I hope happens over the next few days. We find a new GM (Gamble) who by other reporters will have the personnel power which Aponte will get frustrated and take the job rumored to her with the NFL itself. This new GM will convince Ross that he can do better than Philbin, with Greg Roman or San Frans DC. This will be attractive to Ross because of his love of Harbaugh, and we will have new life on this team. My dream please come true.

If you are a supporter the Aponte and Philbin Axis...sub-consciencely you are supporting a losing proposition.

I really don't understand how this situation doesn't make people more nervous. The mando article is clearly one sided but others have reported a less biased version of a bad situation which seems like dysfunction within the organization. That is not a good thing while you are searching for a GM. We also have an owner who has no football background and has shown poor judgement in the past which means he may do so again in the present/future. If he is somehow being influenced by Aponte and is in any way thinking about placing the new GM under her, I really think this job is not so attractive to the best candidates. I would definitely choose a stable and functional work environment over a dysfunctional one if a had to choose between two equal opportunities.

That being said if Ross is smart (and I think he is btw) and is willing to hire a GM and give that person total control over football operations then this is a very good job as the roster isn't in horrible shape, we have an owner who has just placed total trust in the new hire to mold the org in his image, and an owner who has shown a strong financial commitment to winning in the past. Hoping this is where Ross is going and we have good news and an exciting year ahead of us next year as we really aren't too far away from being pretty good in my opinion !

Mando is just making **** up again.....I can do it to, it actually started when Ireland stuck Sparano in the back with that trip to San Fran, which upset Parcells, who called Dawn and told her to make life miserable for him and not to trust him......the rest is history
