Marino suing the NFL over concussions....

This is as bogus as the class action lawsuits and state government lawsuits against the tobacco industry. Anyone with an ounce of common sense has known the dangers of tobacco use since the late 60's, early 70's.
Anyone with knowledge of Jerry Quarry and dementia pugilistica understands that repeated head trauma can cause long term damage. Jerry Quarry's story was publicized in the early 90's.
I'm not buying this feigned ignorance on the part of former players as there has been plenty of medical literature on the subject that the agents and NFLPA have had access to. The NFL is NOT a medical authority on anything as they don't conduct medical research. Therefore, its a stretch to make a negligence claim against them, at least from a practical standpoint. Of course, all bets are off in our corrupt, overzealous and overly litiginous legal system.

Untrue
Next you are going to have crack dealers suing their supplier for selling them something they knew was bad for them. THE NERVE

Seriously...I don't know how old you are but we all saw what getting hit in the head did to Cassius Clay (Muhamad Ali).....again, you have to be a moron not to know what a getting hit in the head could do to you.

I know its all part of the socialist agenda to suck what you can from those who have more....but in the end it serves no purpose other than to destroy an industry.

This might be the end my support for this sport...yes virginia...I always knew getting hit in the head could cause damage.

Thats the risks they took to get paid millions....Unlike you I am not liar...I admit that I am not dumb enough to think getting hit in the head could not have long term damage.

:rolleyes2: Maybe you should take your own sig advise and save the weak backhanded insults for the Anything Goes Forum. And jeebus, are you gonna start ranting about Benghazi next?

I don't get the angle of the NFL hiding concussions and it's long term effects. Does anyone here think that Marino, or any of these players, if told that if they got hit in the head, might cause longer term side effects, that they still wouldn't play? Come on man.

A society falling apart.....thats what we're all witnessing...the rats start deserting the ship and looking whatever cheese they can grab.

Sad...................

Our country is in the shape it's in because of lawsuits such as this. I guess because the owners and NFL have money they should dish it out. Heck, I've had neck and back surgeries due to football in HS and pop Warner, I guess I should sue too.

Lawsuits should be for a identified negligence, not for dudes who are living well and want a piece of the action. Unless someone tells me otherwise, I have never heard Dan say he has had any ill affects from concussions. What's next, lawsuits for a jacked up Achilles?

No other nation in the world is as litigious as us, and many people reap the benefits, but many suffer the consequences be it by paying up the arse for insurance or by direct responsibility.

Didn't some lady sue McDonalds and won because her 3 kids are morbidly obese. She fed them breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday at McDonald and each teen was 300lbs +.

I think people knew concussions were bad, but I didn't know in the 80's that players from that era would be so impacted. I always think of Jim McMahon who has lost a great deal of his short term memory, he literally can be setting at the table talking to someone and not remember what the conversation was two minutes ago or how he even got to the restaurant.

Eeh didnt he talk quite recently about how he knew the risks etc just like the other players? and how he didnt wanna take action?

Cynical, but did he lose the cbs health plan? Id grab every penny I coukd as well

There is a pretty big difference between getting punched in the face thousands (millions?) of times and football players with full head protection colliding with each other a hand full of times a game. Plus Ali started showing signs of being ****ed up while still fighting and had other serious health issues.

Even today the NFL needs to go a lot further to protect the players. Most 20 somethings are too dumb to think about the long term health effects so the NFL has to step in and force the matter as much as they can within reason.

As far as the lawsuit goes it doesn't really change my opinion of Dan or any of the players as I don't have enough info, it sounds as though they are a lock to win so they must have a legit case. I'm pretty sure Cola is bad for me but I still drink it anyway and if I ever catch wind that Pepsi knew it was cutting our lives short and was deceitful you can bet your ass I'll be the first in line to sue them.

Then people complain why the NFL is the No Fun League. They need to have clause from now on stating you can't sue for injuries from football. Come on you ****ing made Millions playing a sport that you knew there was contact. I imagine in a few years the money hungry great QB's , P.Manning and Drew Breese will sue as well.

You guys are absolutely ignorant! I use to be indifferent on concussions and brain trauma until I had The Refrigerator Perry as a passenger on my flight. He literally sat there like a bobble head doll and pissed himself during flight. To the point when they strapped him to his aisle chair he was piss soaked but waiving at his fans. The issue isn't if the danger of concussions was known. The issue is teams made a conscious effort to hide the diagnosis from players, putting them back on the field immediately after the injury exposing them to more harm.

Players like Marino gave it their all exposing themselves to great danger! All the while billionaires sit in luxury boxes repeating the reward of others labor. For decades the league ignored head trauma and hid it from players. That is why they should and will pay! Absolutely amazing Dan Marino is now a villain! Give me a break anything any of these players are awarded will be pennies on the interest the owners earn from a single season.

Did the players know there was a risk? Absolutely! But what they didn't know is the severity of their injury because it was being hidden from them.

This thread has been most educational. I have learned that there is no level of service that a player can give to the Dolphins that will satisfy a significant number of posters to the board should that player in his post-NFL career attempt to stand up and gain recompense for the long-term physical trauma that he endured playing in the NFL. For a significant number of posters on this board the players are simply chattel to be used and then thrown away when their entertainment value to that poster is done. It is useful to know which posters fall into that camp. Most educational.

My initial reaction is "Yep, Dan needs money after losing the CBS gig."

JDW: it is also mine. i want to see some further proof on this, but. its not off base at all.

this is NOT because of the cbs gig, its the fact it was the probably the straw that broke the camels back. a couple years ago, danny fortune was all but whiped out from a VERY bad investment he went all in on. it cost him his money and his mansion and most of his other hi dollar assets.

then came the LOVE CHILD with the long time affair that came to light. that cost big money on several fronts. and NOW........., his CBS gig. danny is on tilt.

there almost seems to be a kharma going on here. i remember a LOT of talk from players and fans back in the day saying that danny was a real arse. you couldnt stand in the same room with his ego and he was NOTORIOUS most of the time for blowing off fans and autographs on a REGULAR basis. at a paid show or team commitment, he was all smiles and charm. in the real world, sounds like it may be just the opposite. as much as i love dan marino, the best qb of all time and the dolphins mega legend, i havnt been so admired with dan marino the person.

anything can happen in a persons marriage. i myself am on wife #2. however, this thing with him and the affair and the love child, this wasnt a 10 month thing that got out of hand, this was going on for many years, and probably still would be had he not been caught, all while clair, his cancer stricken wife who he had been with him since first year of college was at home with danny's 307 children, one a special needs kid.

that makes me wince a bit. and there were lots of rumors of dans infidelities back in the day, but i, like thousands of other loyal fin fans thought it was haters and a biased media.

where theres smoke......... . and now we know that ONE affair is true so it makes one revisit those rumors. either he is getting a visit from mr. kharma OR danny is living a bad country music song.

but back to the point of the thread, DANNY IS BROKE and has been for some time now. his reputation tarnished in the business world, his personal life and now his tv profession.

i truly hope this is not what it appears to be. i really do.
