Marino suing the NFL over concussions....

what's so great about john elway...had he not been able to sign peyton manning they'd be calling for his head in denver by now...he's been carried by the peyton manning decision

but he did. that should count for something. 3-5 other teams wanted him, supposedly.

I think NFL players have to realize when they sign a contract to play professionally that they are no different than police officers, firemen, coal miners anf others who work in dangerous professions. It is a risk you take that you could be injured or killed, or have your life shortened. As long as players recognized this risk, they have to live with the consequences. I just think the NFL needs to make sure they can provide good medical coverage, and try to make the game safe, but you cannot eliminate brain trauma....even if the NFL became two-hand-touch, guys are still going to have long term health issues.

After a cop gets shot or a fireman gets burned, they let him heal up before sending him back out, don't they?

Well...if its true then thats some bad luck PR for Marino.
There was one game they were saying that Dan didn't remember playing the second half of the game because he got his bell rung so hard. I can understand whole hearty his concerns of the medical care and costs associated with Alzheimer's or Dementia as my wife and I live with my in laws and my wife's grandmother. My father in law had the on set of Alzheimer's at 57 and officially diagnosed around 59. At the age of 66 he wears a bicycle helmet to prevent future injuries and has lost all motoring and bodily control functions except for walking all the time. The burden and costs for him are a lot but would be even more if he was in a facility. They run $4500 to $5500.00 a month where we are. He has stage 7 right now and really doesn't talk anymore but is home. We help my mother in law care for him.

Dan is the victim of a over zealous law office. As lawyers do, they over reach.
His concern was about having some cover going forward if he should have issues from his concussions. A sensible position at this point in his life.
He was also lending his name in hope of helping those players that are destitute and suffering with concussion related syndromes.
I cannot believe the venom of some of you so-called fans. You guys turned on him in an instant.
Talk about rushing to judgement before all the facts were in.

I'm with most of you in feeling like its beneath one of our greats to complain about the brutality of the game... We all know what its about from day one. Concussions were downplayed only in comparison to how much attention they get now.. Every practice had someone "getting their bell rung" as the coaches would say.

I did see the following sentence in regard to the article I read: "Marino’s lawsuit seeks medical monitoring and unspecified financial recovery."

I suppose I could forgive him if he's just seeking to cover expenses specifically related to a future occurence of something like Alzheimer's or something that's proven to be brought about from a history of concussions. In other words not seeking some financial gain now, but any future related expenses covered. That's closer to some sort of workers comp... in my mind.

I guess that's what it ended up being then.....

I'll post this line again... in hopes that those of you that seem to be disenchanted with Marino may offer your opinion on its meaning:

"Marino’s lawsuit seeks medical monitoring and unspecified financial recovery."

How would you interpret that sentence?

From his Press release today: “It was never Marino’s intention to initiate litigation in this case, but to ensure that in the event he had adverse health consequences down the road, he would be covered with health benefits. They are working to correct the error,” a source said to the Sun-Sentinel."

I don't know if I trust that. I don't know if I trust a guy that lied for so many years about
a child out of wedlock, and now claims this.

You can doubt my fanhood, and I really don't give a god damn what you think of me.
What I'm a fan of more than anythign else is being a ****ing MAN and committing to
whatever task you are at.

When you commit to a warrior's path, you cannot simply gain all that you gain, then, walk
away from it and assume a martyr. Well, at least you can't and gain MY admiration.

You know how HE should be covered?

The multi millions of dollars he made playing the game, and, benefits aside from it.

It's not anyone elses responsibility but his. To say otherwise, in my mind is shameful.

Just so you know, the guy in your sig cheated on all three of his wives. Repeatedly.

Yeah...I'm sure Dan Marino would ever have a problem paying medical bills...get real!
'

Ha ha ha..

I know right?

Dan Figgured he could cash in, and then, he realized that he has a certain image to preserve.

I don't think anyone was surprised by McMahon....
But DAN MARINO moves the needle.

Whew, that was a close one. I had just started planning for the impending apocalypse and fall of society caused by such a lawsuit.
