Marty Schottenheimer is pretty much begging to be Phins coach

You know what....I'm gonna say it...Don "freakin" Shula, the greatest coach in Dolphin history wanted us to get and believed in Marty Shottenheimer. Maybe bringing him in, if only to get this organization back on its feet.... could erase the curse of Shula we seem to be under.

I highly endorse the hiring of Marty Shottenheimer!

200-126-1 Compare that to Jeff Fisher who you all were salivating over.................................................

Marty Shottenheimer is the answer to fixing the Dolphins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

I thought Ross and Irelnd should have brought both Shula nd Marino as advisors on this coaching search thing anyway...I approve of the Marty Shot idea!

If u bring in Marty u hope he brings a younger cordinator who can take over after him after 2-3 years. Always respected Marty, don't know if he can still do it but we know he is a real coach that with the right staff will win. Bringing a ring to Marty and his family would be huge just ask Brian when he said that on Jets hard knocks show.
Not sure if its the right hire, it be nice to find our own big name coach out of one these upcoming cordinators to be honest. But whoever can bring some respect back to Miami Dolphins would be nice.

If it means we are stuck with Marty's son on our staff no F'n way!

I know all old people move to Florida but enough already
God that would be the headline wouldn't it? Snowbird Marty in Miami.

I've always been a big fan of Marty and was sickened when he got fired after 14-2. I have serious doubts about his age.

Of course I'm a much bigger Fins fan than I am a Marty fan but how cool would it be if he won a title here!!! Us fans under 40 especially us mid 30s have never seen the Dolphins win one and Marty has never won one. It wouldn't be hard to get behind this coach. That's a pipedream, even him getting hired is a long shot. If he did get hired it would probably be a fun ride which is a lot better than what we got now.

I would not be totally against him but he is old and he is famous for getting to the playoffs and losing, even when the "experts" deem that he had the much better team. Was he being out coached in the playoffs?

From what I've heard Baby Shotty does not want to work under Papa...wants to steer his own path.

I'm fully on board with Marty.

If they ever do ask Shula he will defiantly recommend Marty.......he always wanted him to take over when he retired.

Been around long enough to know Marty was and still probably is an excellent coach. That being said I'd have a concern with his age and wonder if it would be wise to again build an organization with an aging coach at the end of his career. I know it's been done, but even Shula had his problems late in his career. Ideally, I'd rather begin a new era with a HC thats going to be in his prime and not deal with the possibility of an aging HC losing his drive 2 to 3 years down the road.

Now just need to hope for miracles with Ireland and Ross running the show.....hey I'm used to disappointments by now.....

He wouldn't be my choice personally, but he certainly wouldn't be a disaster.

Obviously the main factor against him is his age. If he was 10-15 years younger he'd be just what the doctor ordered. Now I know there are examples of coaches who are 65+ in all kinds of sports who still achieve great success, but at the same time ideally you want your head coach to be in place for some time to come in order to build the franchise from the ground up. Health reasons could prevent Marty from doing this.

However, there would be benefits of hiring Marty. Fact is, this franchise needs somebody who can turn the team around and make them competitive beyond the regular season. Marty would definately provide stability and get this team headed in the right direction, even if it is just for a year, two years or whatever. He'd re-build the foundations of a solid franchise. Marty would restore the credibility of the franchise and the way in which it is perceived by others around the league, meaning if he only had a year or two left in him then there'd be a long list of coaches lining up wanting to replace him.

Despite his ties to Peterson, Ross wants the next 'young Shula' and Marty certainly is not that.

I can't see him getting the nod, probably won't even get an interview.

I'd be happy with him. 2 losing seasons? Ever? The guy wins and he builds talented teams. I'd love to only be concerned about whether he can get over his playoff curse. Age is the least of my concerns. At the very least he'll leave a talented team when he retires. Hell, Vermeil was 61 when he took over St. Louis and 65 when he signed with Kansas City. Tom Coughlin is 65.

It's not like we're signing him to play linebacker again.

one of the biggest drawbacks to a shot with Marty is he's been out of the NFL since 2006. who would he bring in as his staff? staff's are built on prior networking and not being around for 5+ years hurts in that regard. granted he may have folks in mind already, and I'd be ok if his OC and DC were younger guys that he was grooming to take over for him as he hits his 70s, but still, he's a proven winner. I'd back the idea if I knew ahead of time who his coordinators were.

Am I the only one not supporting Marty being here? Marty is collecting social security. He is in the AARP. At MOST he comes in for 2 winning seasons before he "is just too old to do it" and Miami is back to square one. It's a band aid on the exit wound from a shotgun on this franchise. When Ross says he wants a young don Shula he wants someone to be here for 15+ years to transform us into the dynasty we once were. You guys sound like heroin addicts wanting just one more fix "if Marty can
Get us to the playoffs... Just... One... More... Time."

Gtfo the idea. Past his prime. Out of the league too
Long. Martyball would not survive in the division. Let alone the league. Martyball is what got our ***** kicked by the ravens in the playoffs...

That's more winning seasons than we've had in the time Marty has been out of the league. And the "young Don Shula" nonsense was killed the minute they went after Jeff Fisher.

age isn't the problem for me, I wouldn't want Marty is his prime. He had teams with 12+ wins five separate times and got all of one playoff win
