McMike - Are you kidding me?

Wow, is this New York. I can't believe I didn't see a "Let's Cut Randy" thread. Everyone loved him last year. Chris Chambers drops passes, Marty Booker drops a lot of passes. I have to say, you fans think Lorenzo Diamond is the Franchise TE, wow, we have to have some weird fans.

What I think is WE EXPECT a winner! I didn't see anyone saying Diamond is a franchise TE here. What has been said though is Randy is far from that based on his inconsistent performance. Miami has tolerated mediocrity for quite awhile. Now Wanny is gone and it's time for a change. Hopefully Saban sorts through the pretenders and the performers. I also think most folks like his fire during the game - we only wish it matched his performance!

Look, Randy IS a top 10 TE...as he currently is.

Randy is NOT a top 5 TE...yet. He should be paid like a top 10 TE as he currently is. He should NOT be paid like a top 5 without improvements...basically his blocking and concetration. His hands are fine...it's his concentration plain and simple. Concetration also effects his blocking as I\we have seen in the past that he can block. Will Randy ever be the most dominant blocking TE....heck no. That's not his major value to the team. It's his downfield, playmaking ability from the TE spot where his value is to the team.

Another factor for him getting a big contract is going to be his personal life. If he doesn't smarten up and divorce that phycho chick, she's going to bring him down and deservedly so. I'm not saying it's all her fault or anything..far from it (I find it dispicable that he'd hit a woman) but she is also guilty in these situations, as evidenced by the fact that she has also been arrested for spousle (sp?) abuse against Randy (they both dropped the charges against eachother). Anyway..

..I love the TE postion (see my sig. :) ) and I believe a TE with Randy's skill set is perfect for this offense (see Jerome Wiggins in Minnesota). For his upcoming contract negotiations, he needs to forget about targeting Gonsalez's contract and even Gates contract that was signed today (or was it yesterday..today I think) but just below...basically a top 10 average. That's where he is provided he straightens up the personal stuff.

The one nice thing about TE contracts is that they don't get paid as much as WR. Yet, in this offense he has the opportunity to catch 80+ passes in a season every season. That's on the high side but if very very possible.

Simply put, He's going to have to decided if this is where he wants to be after the season though as I don't think we'll offer him a contract in the Tony G., Todd Heap, and Antonio Gates range. It'll be just below those guys. But again...if he hits his wife again (his "fault" or not) we should cut his a$$ without a second thought. (hey, I can change up my sig. easily :) )

If McMike has a big year he could get the franchise tag, so then in theory he would be worth a 1st and 3rd, but wouldn't get that. He's a valuable part of the offense, and is a playmaker on a team with very few.

I really disagree with this notion that we don't have many or any playmakers on this team. Maybe I have drank too much koolaid but Chambers, Boston and Booker have to be one of the top WR trios in the league. Brown and Williams have the talent to be one of the top RB tandems in the league. IF only they had an Oline they could be scary. We also have a few playmakers on D. I know we aren't quite there overall with enough talent BUT we are far from some of these reports saying we have little IMO.

You drank a little bit of kool aid. Our power trio is really not that great. We need two more guys as good or better than Chambers.
Boston, Booker or McMichael could leave now with little impact.

I disagree, I think there are very few playmakers on the team, and I think Welker probably should be the 3rd wideout right now. I think there some playmakers on defense, but unless the team can score 17 points defensively, which they may have to, the team is gonna struggle. It's a rebuilding process, and it's gonna take time, but getting rid of one of the best young offensive player, would be a terrible move, IMO.

WOW Randy has one really bad game and he is now on the outs with so many people. I crucified Wanny for not using players where they could be most effective, and using Randy as a blocker fits into that category so maybe some of the blame needs to go to the coaches. Its not a situation where he is going to excell, or even be servicable so why put him in it. I know its something he needs to work on but its something we all know he stinks at. As far as his contract goes he is definately a top 10, and after this year he will be paid like it.

We're going to need his hands

I disagree. I know it's a big IF but IF Boston is healthy he is better than Chambers. He has done it before. I'll go on record to say I don't think there is a WR in the league as big and fast as Boston. Now he comes with a BIG ? with his health BUT make no mistake this guy is a physical freak. He is a game breaker. When he was on in AZ he couldn't be covered. I also think Booker is tough - he was a captain in Chicago before the trade for a reason. I think you highly understate the talent level of these 2 by saying they could leave with little impact. Time will tell - I see Linehan openning up this offense so these guys will get chances assuming Gus has any kind of time to throw.

Yes Jermain caught 71 balls last year but before that Vikes TE's never caught over 40 or 50 max. And randy had already put up 73 which is better than any Minn TE in recent history.

i love McMike... but his blocking sucks.... thats dedication and ficus on every play.. and it hasnt just been this offeason... it was all last year. Remember last year when he complained about having to stay back and block... hes not committed to it. Diamond would be nice to use ..

Where do you come up with the fact that he "hasn't earned it"? I'm asking, not accusing. Because for the last two seasons, with the poor offense that we had, he was still the 5th best TE in the entire NFL on BOTH years. (5th out of 87 in 2003, and 5th out of 102 in 2004).
http://www.nfl.com/stats/playersort/NFL/TE-RECEIVING/2004/regular
http://www.nfl.com/stats/playersort/NFL/TE-RECEIVING/2003/regular
And for his rookie season he was ranked 14th out of 81. His ROOKIE season.

I don't know guys, but I think you might be over reacting. McMichael is a really good TE for us. I wouldn't trade him at all. And besides, its preseason. Realize that, and realize that none of it means anything.

he has shown hes worth it, when he was the best player on our offense. for the past 2 years.(chambers, and ricky are arguable.)
who cares about preseason. he will do fine in the regular season.

Is this guy still waiting for a big time contract? My guess is that he plays out his last year with the Phins and moves on because he has not shown he is worth big money. I'm not just listing the drop passes after being able to watch the last game finally but he got BLOWN over by a LB. Are you kidding? He got run over for a big sack on Frerotte. I know our Oline looks bad but they aren't getting much help from this guy. He was consistently pushed back when he stayed in to block. Add the drops and while I like his fire he is not proving to be a big time TE. Real disappointing to me. How can we be dominant up front when you have a center who gets pushed back almost every down and a TE would gets knocked on his backside half the time. That's 1/3 of the line that is pretty useless blocking. Add McDougal who was just painful to watch and I can see why there was one change and possibly more on the way. I know I may get ripped for this but IMO we need to give up the catching ability of McMike to get some much needed blocking. We have WR's and RB's that can make plays BUT if we don't get some blocking soon we may score less than last year. Now I understand why Lee is still around - cause compared to McMike he is a blocking machine.

I would be willing to let mcmike go or trade him for a serious pick if we had another Lorenzo Diamond but mcmike is great deep down the middle of the field and Diamond has been more of an outside guy. I think Mcmike will be fine but this is suppose to be his year and if he does not wake up, he will be let go, Saban wont want to deal with his attitude about money when he is slacking.

We will hang on to McMike unless we get a big offer for him...if you had any patience smarts probably in a year or 2 he will get the big deal, we had a really screwed up salary cap this year.
Also if you cant come up with a better reason than cant block then just stop because the reason we brought in Houck was to work on BLOCKING not just blocking with the oline but with RANDY in the blocking scheme too. Its going to take some time.
McMike may not have been the best but he is one of the better ones, especially when he was in a hoorible system with coaches who have no experience at that position coaching them. Everybody is entitled to a dropped pass or a missed blocking assignment once in a while but those are the things Saban wants to work on.
So dont say anything about how McMike is bad because he couldnt block, i mean honestly none of our oline could block.:shakeno:
