MERGED: Albert signing with Dolphins for 10 mil/per

True we need help now ,and the position we need filled isnt made for a rookie ,But as for the QB to get paid lets see what we can fix Now ,because the way the salary cap is going , the league is going to make enough room on the cap as to where we just might not have to worry , but if we dont fix the OL , we might not need to worry about our QB when time comes to pay him , because we might not have one , if the OL isnt fixed ....

This keeps getting repeated and it's just wrong.

1) LTs are historically among the safest positions to draft.
2) There are many LTs that get drafted and play well as rookies.

Wth r u saying I remember just off the top of my head when the rams drafted Jason smith @ like no.2 in the draft (epic bust)

We must be paying him big money if he already agreed with us. I would hate a 5 year 55 million deal but I would be happy with a 5 year 40 million dollar deal.

The caps supposed to increase 30 mil by 2016.

Don't worry

About $27 million, give or take a few depending on what happens between now and then.

It's the reason why if we overpay but actually land a good player, I'll be pretty happy. The market is going to re-set itself... soon.

Just because the cap is raising doesnt mean we should just throw away our money. And that could be what we are doing here. In all likelihood Albert is going to be handed a 5 year deal. His play dropped last season and the argument could be made that he is on the decline. Theres a strong possibility that we are only going to get 2 years of quality play out of that 5 year deal. Aside from the fact we will have to go through this all over again in a few years, we wouldnt be getting that great of value for the money we are spending.

People are acting like those of us that arent thrilled about it are suggesting we leave the line as it is. By no means is that true. Not only do i believe it needs to be fixed, i believe it needs to be fixed in free agency. Ive been quite vocal in my opposition towards spending high draft picks on lineman, its an atrocious waste. Even if those picks work out(which they havent thus far), we could find competent players at those same positions later in the draft.
The thing i disapprove of is this specific player. We werent locked into him. The market isnt barren. There are no tags on them, they wouldnt cost us a draft pick. We are one of the league leaders in cap space, we could have negotiated with any of them. And out of the top 4 we chose to deal with the least attractive. On top of that, it looks like we will be paying him the most out of that group. Its insanity.

If we were 1 player away from Superbowl contention, then i could see signing an older player with an injury history to try and get us over the hump. But we arent a player away. We arent a player away from fixing our offensive line, much less this entire roster. Ireland screwed us something fierce, missing on entire draft classes years ago is effecting our roster today. Even if we use all of our resources in the best way possible this offseason(which it doesnt look like we are) we would still need our younger players to gain experience. Time is not in Brandon Albert's favor. He is not the long term solution to our problem, and there are players available who could be. This isnt about filling a need, this is about filling a need in the most efficient way possible.

Why are we going to give Albert 9.5 when we could get Anthony Collins for 6.5!!???? Wtf man

From the way Monroe is running around trying to boost his new contract , take it back to the Ravens so they can give him what Teams in FA are offering , i dont think he is serious about leaving Baltimore ,i could be wrong , but we was all over him just a day ago , and now it seems like weve turn the cold shoulder , im not sure whats going on until we see for sure what there price tags are , but something isnt adding up .....

9.5 mill is what Im reading.....that tells me we probably dont wanna know what Monroe was asking....

It could also be that Monroe was open to leaving but other teams didnt offer him the money the Ravens did. I dont think its a coincidence that we heard about Monroe and the Ravens having a reunion after information was leaked the Miami had a deal in place with Albert, Saffold had agreed to go to Oakland, Arizona was pursuing Veldheer, and Tampa was exploring Collins.

But you could be right, Monroe might have been playing everyone and trying to leverage Baltimore. I know if i spent a chunk of my career playing for the Jaguars id be damned hesitant to leave a first class organization like the Ravens.

While i think Monroe is the best player available, the one i wanted us to go after was Veldheer. I figured he would be the best value. Im comfortable with his injury history, his age was a plus, he could be had for a reasonable cost, and he was a solid player. I felt we could plug him into the left tackle position and have a reasonable belief that we wouldnt have to deal with it again for another half decade(if not longer). Im still hoping for a surprise, but i know im deluding myself at this point. I'll certainly take Albert over spending another draft pick on the line though.

I too felt Veldheer would have been the best 'fit' for us....esecially scheme-wise

I just can't understand how you want to sign Albert for 9.5 mill when you can get Veldheer and Collins for 7.

I will ask this since nobody is…why is Monroe's market so soft? Nobody was really interested in him.

How do you know that?

Are you positive we havent tried? It takes 2!

Maybe that is how we want it. Maybe we can turn around and sign him instead of Albert at a cheaper price. Maybe that is where the Byrd talk is coming from. Never know.

I'll bet Monroe wanted some ridiculous money.

Only one thing good about the Albert signing, we're not being jerked around again like we always are, just to get the bidding up. Albert sincerely wants to play here, has for a while.
