MERGED: Diversity Group Upset With Mueller Hiring

Oh, and one reason why I am ambivalent regarding minority issues... my father was fired from his job (he worked there for 20 years) because they were downsizing. He was a loyal employee and was told that they had to fire him because the owners were being watched for their minority percentages. A cuban guy took my fathers job. My father wasn't too old, nor was he a bad employee... he was white.

so I know discrimination, I know it is wrong.

Care to share which call in shows you are referring to. Anyone who has ever called into talk radio, knows that they have screeners and three second time delays in place to prevent any embarrassing situations such as you described from taking place. They would simply cut the mic.

Here are the demographics between Blacks and Whites of the city of Jax.

IF "It exist big time...." there would not have been a Sheriff Glover. The first Black Sheriff of the City of Jacsonville.

One race 720,986 100.0 %

White 474,307 65.8 %

Black or African American 213,514 29.6 %

I'm not calling the city of Jacksonville racist...you still have a few that makes themselves heard...like this board is bringing out the true colors of some these Dolfans..makes me sick to read some of this bull...

I'm guessing Calphin (California Fin Fan?) didn't realize what was going to turn into by starting..is there anyway we can erase this crap...

so you right a wrong but committing another wrong? that's the way to do it.

My question was how to do you propose to fix the imbalance and allow some catching up... I don't propose any thing, so no, I don't right a wrong with a wrong...I'm telling what's going on..you question is a easy one to asked, but no one ever comes up with a plan that 1. corrects the wrongs 2. Ensure equality 3. Have a mechanism to see if the plan is working.

Most ppl just like to bi*ch about it. Now will you answer my 200 year old question...no one has attempted to yet..and I'm waiting.

because throughout college i had to work full-time (and plenty of overtime) just to go to school full-time. i didn't have access to something such as a united negro college fund.

because when i lived in california, i was denied admission to a university because my sat score (1120) was not high enough to satisfy that qualification. but for a "minority" that score was plenty enough.

am i bitter at an entire race? no, not at all. i have friends of many races. but am i bitter because those individuals got special benefits that i couldn't get, just because of their color? hell yes i am!

Welcome to the minority world..this is what minorities have been saying, you sound just like a minority..something I grew up listening to.

for the last 200 years many of whites who were less qualified than minorities have gotten jobs..was that fair or is it fair. Why don't anyone address that on this board

What you stated must be proven correct. White people have not been given jobs they were not qualified for. Affirmative Action has made it possible for minorities to receive jobs that THEY may not be qualified for.

Name for us a white guy that was given a job and was not as qualified as a black guy (or girl). Try to do it without letting your own political or personal bias cloud your judgement.

Just to add more information to this thread... Highschool students must now be taught reading, writing, math along with african and african-american history. This is a law passed in philadelphia.

I thought you studied African American history, are you saying prior to Affirm. Act. Whites weren't given preferential treatment in society? Right now, if you were given a job, based on the knowledge displayed I'd said that's one.
:D

What are you talking about? I never studied african american history. You need to first read, then read again (to comprehend), then post something that is relative to what you read, and hopefully contains something worth reading by others (either via entertainment value, or educational value).

Anyway, you said whites have been given jobs that they were NOT as qualified as blacks to have. You are responsible for proving that statement, and I do not believe you can. Affirmative action has made it possible for black students and adults to acheive with lesser education or experience qualifications than white people. You are in support of the very thing you want others to prove wrong (which you have not proven correct).

I'm most likely on the oppostite side of the fence concerning this issue than you. I don't think it is right to coerce a privately owned business into interviewing,or hiring anyone other than those persons the company sees fit to put through the process. It's a matter of free enterprise with me. The "true colors" that you speak of haven't (to me) implied any disrespect pertaining to race, only to a political or economic point of view. In the grand scheme of things, that philosophy, long range, could wreck this economic engine we call the United States. Why? Because its "true colors" are Socialism, Stateism. If someone (anyone) has the intellectual resources to manage an organization, they have the ability to start their own business and set whatever hiring practices they so deem. It's not about Racism, it's about an economic philosophy.

Okay, lets talk special treatment, for the last 200 years many of whites who were less qualified than minorities have gotten jobs..was that fair or is it fair. Why don't anyone address that on this board, I've asked this before. Did you listen when minorities cried foul during all this time..See when I read these posts, I see the same arguments minorities have been making for centuries...Why is it now more important? Is it because for a short while the shoe is on the other foot, seeing sometimes less qualified get jobs over you, get placements in college sometimes, over you. Again, this has been happening to minorities for the last 200 years...We, like you, know it doesn't feel right. But I ask again..how do you correct the imbalance? You guys now sound like the minorities, complaining as you say. Again equalilty is not easy to achieve, there's always someone to get pissed.

How does referring to the past have anything to do with anything? Should jews get speical treathments? They went through hard times. Nothing gets accomplished when we revert to how things were 50+ years ago. How are we going to be able to be equal when there are different guidelines for different races? Alot of people got discriminated when they came to America. I am Italian and my grandparents came over from Italy and were dirt poor... they got discriminated when they moved here and alot of my people still do.
