MERGED: Diversity Group Upset With Mueller Hiring

The point of the guidelines is to get black coaches a foot in the door. Some of these coaches would never go through the process of a head coaching interview. Some of the blacker coaches would never get considered in the first place if it weren't for the NFL's requirement for head coaches. I'm trying to see the positives put forth through these diversity groups and their demands. It is difficult.

Who really cares what he says. People theses days think racism everytime somebody hires a white man.

Are you saying that a team in the NFL knowing how important it is to fill the seats would honestly hire an underqualified white coaching candidate if there was a better qualified black candidate available?

Yea seriously. If I was a black coach and I was asked to interview, just so some stupid commision or group would be pleased, I'd be pretty ****ing insulted. Imagine people calling you not because of your skills, but the color of your skin.

I think this rule is a disgrace not only to the league, but to hard working minorities who are selected based on their skill.

I think this actually happened in Detroit, i'm not sure though, everyone knew they were gonna hire Marriuci and they tried to just interview a guy just to satisfy the NFL guidelines. I don't think there is anything wrong with the NFL rule, whoever is the best person suited for the job should get it. What can be so bad about exploring more options to get the best person for the job?

Some would say that he was responsible because he was a 'person of less color' and therefore a representive of repression.... or something like that.

Then they would be wrong. Mr Denney did absolutely nothing to the scum that drug him from his truck and beat him to within an inch of his life. They attacked Mr. Denney because he was white...no other reason. Racism at its worst.

I wish he wasnt. We dont want him, someone else claim him please.

Let's have a racial draft! We, the white delegation select...Haley Berry:goof:

Racism still occurs to this day. Some blacks dont treat whites like they treat blacks. example - a wendys near here has all black people working there ( and has always been all black), and the owner is black. Is that racism? I'll let you decide. Alot of whites are racist too im sure though. Its a two-way thing nowadays. I truely believe this group is trying to do the right thing, but they arent doing it "right"

Nothing to do with race...........

Mind boggling.

The group is only following a protocol set up by them and the NFL...

The ignorance on this message board is astonishing. Not only have you all clearly raised your individual blood pressures for a ghost of an enemy, many of you have disrespected and offended persons of color without you even knowing it. The Alliance, first and foremost is pushing for color in the NFL, because of the disparity of player too front office personnel. By no means are they asking or telling owners to hire minorities, just to give them a shot, a shot not afforded to them regardless of credentials i.e. Marvin Lewis, Lovie Smith, Romeo Crennel, Norm Chow and to many of you "alls" dismay many more candidates, all specialists of one or even both sides of the ball. The talent is out there but because of the "coaching carousel" a phrase conjured up by the media; (just a point: unrealistically reporting on Blacks and minorities with no clear and sound frame of reference) minorities have been repeatedly passed up solely because they are out of the loop and not because of talent. The Alliance only seeks for these candidates to have an opportunity at these positions, which was not afforded to them in a "racially diverse" world. NFL owners like most elite don’t come into contact with minorities even though their "best friend is one." And as we all know you give jobs to people you know and trust or to people you were refereed to by your "non-minority" friend. Thus allowing the apprehension of racism (valid or not) to become a concern. Here in lays the merit of the Alliance organization, a sort of police to infuse minorities in the "coaching carousel."

You say that some of us have disrespected and offended people of color and dont even give an example followed by a racist comment of yourself. Saying "to many of you ALLS dismay" So basically your saying that every white person talks like a southern hick. What's the Dilly YO

It has everything to do with race, the point some people here are trying to make is there shouldnt be a procedure to even worry about. No NFL team should have to get permission from the Alliance to hire a person that they see as the best available candidate for the job, without interviewing and minority.

Obviously you don't know History..that's why it will repeat itself.

havent taken teh time to read over the other replies already, but if i was a black coach i wouldnt even take teams seriously. honestly, shell knew we were going after saban and we had to interview him because of that stupid *** rule, which was basically just a waste of everyone's time. if nick saban was black, we wouldve hired him just as quickly as we did

What don't you understand about it NOT BEING A REQUIREMENT for any position other than head coach? huh?

 My understanding was for all positions..

This is admittedly a touchy situation. I'm all for affirmative action but applying it in a very specialized and tiny workforce like NFL coaches or front office personnel is somewhat of a force. Racism is still very prevalent in anonymous situations, i.e. when generic positions are up for grabs among the masses every reliable study reveals whites assume preferential treatment to blacks even when all qualifications are equal. But this is hardly a typical occupation. Miami was not dealing with strangers. We targeted a specific individual, or actually isolated several individuals then selected the one we preferred. If it had been an open call with dozens or hundreds of potential candidates then the criticism would be valid if we failed to interview minority candidates.
