MERGED:does anyone else feel riped off/upset on this surtain deal?!?!

Sad to see Surtain go, but I think we all knew it was coming.

Thanks for the time with us Pat!

Who between now and tomorrow was going to give us fair value? KC was the only team interested.

It doesn't matter. We should get more for Pat than Oakland got for the underachieving Philip Buchanan. We didn't. Only in La La Land is Philip Buchanan more valuable than Patrick Surtain.

No, because Pat is 29 years old and has a chronic knee problem. You're being childishly unrealistic.

I Suppose you guys are right, I think that Sabin should have gotten something of a replacement first though, other than Poole.

That's what the draft is for. We Poole or Howard can play in his place for now, Edwards helps in nickel and dime packages. The real problem, to me, is that Madison will probably be gone by next offseason, and so then we have somewhat of a cornerback position void of proven talents.

This was a wanny mistake, if he would have traded Madison and not signed him to that deal, we could have gottin rid of him and used money for surtain.

I think bringing Howard was a big mistake, especially with the intention of forcing Madison to renegotiate - horrible reason to bring in a player. You don't waste money for people to ride the pine when it means you can't afford your playmakers. But here's hoping he proves me wrong this season, or Poole plays up to some of our fellow posters' expectations. It would make the trade easier to handle.

That said, there's no way I'd sign Surtain to a 7 year gazillion dollar deal. Moves like that hurt organizations long term.

Sure it matters. Either we take a 2nd round pick. Or we end up keeping him and losing him and get NOTHING in return at seasons end.

What has more value. 2nd round pick or nothing?

I agree with you. We did not get value for Patrick, unfortunately. It seems that Saban's desire to get another pick superceeded his desire to get proper value for the league's best cornerback.

Agreed. We got the short end of the stick on this one, but Saban wanted that pick. The only part of this that might make it more palatable is Pat's recent injury history. IE maybe Nick knows that Pat's knee isn't as sound as it used to be. If that's the case and you couple that with the money factor then there is some argument to making the trade now. I still don't feel we got equal value though. We needed a first rounder. Philllip Buchanon netted a 2nd and a 3rd. I don't buy that Phillip is younger and has a cheaper contract. He's also a bust of a corner so it's not comparable.

lmao...this was an outstanding move by the organization. pat is now on the downside of his career and is prob not worth those $$.

besides, we have many need areas and cannot tie up that much money on one player. kudos to saban.

So, to you it doesn't matter that Patrick is ten times player Philip Buchanan will ever be?

A terrible precedent has been set. The Miami Dolphins are willing to give away players at the positions of value for virtually nothing. They did it with Adewale Ogunleye last year, and they have done it again with Patrick Surtain.

Next thing you will tell me is that Jason Taylor isn't worth a 1st round pick.

I was expecting this day to happen for awhile but when it finally does nothing can prepare you for the thought of seeing one of your favorite players in another uniform. I'm going to miss Pat a lot, he brought so much to this team and hopefully in his stead he'll bring another future Pro Bowler to Miami with the 2nd round pick we aquired for him. Best of luck Pat, you'll be missed!

That would have been great, not that Madison isn't great, but wasn't his contract crazy too, I would rather have seen Madison go that Patrick.

Wanny really screwed us over!:fire:

But for some reason Houston wanted Phillip. And they were willing to overpay for him.

Teams weren't knocking down our door for Surtain. Sorry, its a fact. KC was the only one

It doesn't matter to any GM in the league when Surtain has maybe 3 years left in him and Buchanan has 6-7 for much less money.

So, Patrick Surtain is not one of the top corners in the league and Philip Buchanan is?

I am just curious, but how did KC afford Surtain's contract? Last I heard KC had just under $2 million in room?
