MERGED: Dolphins to hire Dan Marino as special advisor

A move that has been in the works for most of this year. A special advisor might mean he is the new voice in Ross' ear when it comes to the status of the head coach and GM in the future. Bye bye Carl Peterson. :)
 
Adviser to what?

What he had can't be taught or replicated.

Well we have a whole 2014 ahead of us. lets hope it doesn't have to come to this and we have a great 2014 season. Phinsup!

A lot of Dolphins fans don't want to hear before a season they have high hopes for that Marino's hire could be part of the planning for a new head coach but Ross would be foolish not to realize that if/when the time comes he's got to go into a room with heavy hitters like Harbaugh and Malzahn with something beyond his billions and his pterodactyl ears.

So if you believe Mike Lombardi (who's close to Harbaugh) that the reason Harbaugh didn't take the Miami job is because of "who Ross brought with him" -- meaning Ireland -- then this is certainly an upgrade in that area. Marino might not be as hip to the rhythm as he once was but there's no doubt his ****y demeanor and "shot and a beer" attitude is an upgrade to the dweebish, sniveling Ireland.

Good read on the situation. Did Marino and Harbaugh have any kind of relationship when they were both in the league together?
 
I like it. This will help as Marino learns the business. The best Dolphin of all time is back.

Not that I'm aware of, but Harbaugh was/is a VERY ****y guy. I can't see Dan being anything but a plus going into that room with Ross, though.
 
I have a feeling Jason Taylor will have some kind of advisor role soon too
