MERGED: Dolphins trade Vontae to Colts

Terrible trade. Now we have Sean Smith who is inconsistent and plays soft. On the other side we have Richard Marshall who is a liability. Vontae may have been lazy but he is a much more talented Corner than Richard Marshall. This just tells me that the team has given up on this season already and is putting everything on Ireland to continue to build through the draft, Problem is how many play makers has Ireland drafted so far? This is just getting scary for us Dolphin fans. It's going to be more years of disappointment until Ireland is gone.

I would feel a million times better about this if it wasn't Ireland making picks next year. Oh, and if he had a contingency plan for this year. Like the Marshall trade, he doesn't.

Not sure I agree with this unless we are finding it hard to resign Vontae after his contract is up. I can understand the trade if we use the pick to get mike wallace though.

Ireland apologists what is your excuse for such a bad trade ?

I'm not an Ireland apologist, but I don't think you can call this a "bad trade"...yet. It will be interesting to see what we do with these picks. We either use them to get a veteran at a position of need (ideally WR), or we draft a good player with that pick. Given his track record in the draft, I don't have a ton of faith in that but who knows. Either way, its a gamble. I don't think Vontae wasn't expendable. He hasn't really been living up to the 1st round pedigree. A 2nd round pick is probably a fair deal if you do something with that pick.

good trade. davis was unlikely to turn into a steady contributor. hopefully ireland can get luckier with his pics next year.

Colts will win their division this year. Bad luck will continue to haunt this franchise. It will turn into a late 2nd.

Philbin is already a failure in my book.

Passing on Marshall, Chad and now Vonte is a direct indictment on his abilities as a motivator and a leader. Not every player is going to be Rudy with that hard work, just happy to be here, attitude. Specially players with superior talent. The game comes easier to them and they are used to being treated differently. This philosophy that Miami is projecting of everyone is equal and no one can step out of line doesn't work in the NFL. And the only one's who are being punished by letting all this talent go is the team.

It's not very often that I get to quote Charles Barkley.... "It isn't about the X's and O's...it's about the Jims and Joes."

And right now we have some of the worst Jims and Joes in the league.

I am not against the trade, would be nice if the front office could put the picks to good use and help this team.

Yep. That's my biggest issue with this trade. I don't think you guys understand this but... IRELAND SUCKS AT DRAFTING OUTSIDE THE FIRST ROUND!

HE SUCKS AT IT, PERIOD.

So basically, we could have given up Vontae for a 7th round pick and it would still feel the same because Ireland simply just doesn't know how to draft.

I don't care about draft picks as long as Ireland is GM of the Dolphins. Get me a proven player in here. Reggie Wayne and a third round pick, okay solid for us.

James Jones and a 4th or 5th round pick for Vontae. Solid for us.

Just a second round pick? To draft mediocre talent like Misi, Egnew, Pat White and other crap? God damn.

i dont have a problem because this team is REAL bad.

and a lot of the older guys like dansby and long are starting to show their discontent and i feel should be traded also.

we need to build this team around tannehill and reggie bush. find a REAL pro bowl quality wr and get our triplets in place.

we havnt won a thing with the guys i am talking about and we wont this year. jake long is leaving in f/a next year so lets get a high round pic or two for him instead of just watching him walk away. the cards would give it up BIG for long right now.

dansby is worth a 5th round pic.

we need rebuilt from top to bottom, not just a cast off nobody or two in f/a as we do EVERY year. build the defense around wake and solie.

its big rebuild that needs to happen in miami and to do it, you need draft pics AND cap room. so, we need to get rid of the lazy players like vontae and malcontents like long and dansby who are tired of not winning. these guys cant be real leaders when they are long faced in the locker room and sideline. dansby looks like he is becoming a cancer. and long is NOT a bad guy, not at all, but, he is getting more and more nagging injuries all the time and he knows the nfl window is short, and with his talent, he wants a ring, and i think right now he doesnt see that in miami. and players attitudes and production can suffer big when they feel trapped and have no hope of winning.

a new coach needs FULL attention from his players. he doesnt need players who are complacent and set in their own ways and this team is FULL of those.

so starting next year with high draft spots, as we WILL be looking at an awful season, then the second for vontae [colts will be picking top 7 next year]. and maybe a high #1 and some other pics and or players for long. that would be a nice start for next year.

and i am not against going for mike wallace. he is young and has great hands. think we wont be drafting a wr high next year? lets get a proven one now whom isnt even in his prime yet and has a whole career ahead.

you have to GIVE to get.

Maybe this is part of the Matt Barkley contingency plan just in case Tannehill doesn't do too well, it increases our chances of getting the #1 pick.
