MERGED: Dolphins trade Vontae to Colts

Bc I was running out of jerseys to wear to the bar on Sundays... the only relevant one I had left was Bess... It's just one of the cheap ones, so not a big deal. To be honest, im of the few who are hoping that they don't go through with the change as was mentioned as a possibility, and if they do, hoping it's minor. Otherwise I'll likely not like the new jerseys anyways. Hoping for throwbacks if anything. And i don't much care about having the latest and greatest, it will still be recognized as a dolphins jersey at my local phins bar either way.

Just heard about this trade and my initial reaction is that its was a bad trade, but... We picked him up with like the 26th overall pick a few years back and if the colts finish in the bottom ten teams we will get back a draft pick only 10 to 15 picks after what we picked him up at after a few years service. Not as bad a value as I first thought and if philbin thinks we can do better with Marshall I will give him benefit of the doubt as he seems on the winning side of tannehill vs flynn

Thoughts on my logic?

I like your logic in terms of trying to make myself feel better. But I feel Vontae is kind of proven in this league, minus his laziness and we never know what we're gonna get in return in round 2. Guess we won't know if it was a good deal for a few more years. Gonna be a fun draft next year anyways, unless we unload picks for a receiver now which would be ok too. In terms of Vontae for a number 1 receiver, I'm ok with that obviously if Ireland can swing it.

BTW, don't think for a second that this team and its personnel is not being directed by Joe Philbin. First Marshall and now Davis. This has Philbin's fingerprints all over it.

really? what does the philbin "finger print" look like?

this is the guys first head coaching gig and all of a sudden everyone is talking about "philbins system" and now the philbin finger print.

he has no track record of showing how he does ANY thing yet. hasnt coached one nfl game. i am sure he was consulted, but i bet kevin coin was the catalyst for this thing and he and philbin signed off when ireland wanted to trade him.

but i gotta know HAYDEN, what is the joe philbin "finger print" and how did you find it? what does it look like so we can see it?

just sayin'.............. .

WHY IN GODS GOOD NAME would the colts give up REGGIE WAYNE, or any of their other wr's when they have a young talent like andrew luck cartying the team this year?

it would almost be like us givng up devone bess in a trade right now with tannehill needing MORE weapons than we have now. everyone is screaming their lungs out about why reggie wayne wasnt included.

i think for 2 reasons. one, the colts need all the wr talent they get. two, reggie is an old guy and doesnt have much left.

Yep. That's my biggest issue with this trade. I don't think you guys understand this but... IRELAND SUCKS AT DRAFTING OUTSIDE THE FIRST ROUND!

HE SUCKS AT IT, PERIOD.

So basically, we could have given up Vontae for a 7th round pick and it would still feel the same because Ireland simply just doesn't know how to draft.

I don't care about draft picks as long as Ireland is GM of the Dolphins. Get me a proven player in here. Reggie Wayne and a third round pick, okay solid for us.

James Jones and a 4th or 5th round pick for Vontae. Solid for us.

Just a second round pick? To draft mediocre talent like Misi, Egnew, Pat White and other crap? God damn.

I'm not even impressed with his first round drafting. Tannehill was a given. He really didn't have a choice there and he's at least smart enough to know that. So, we have Long (an LT when we should have chosen a QB), Davis (who we just traded for a 2nd round pick, so bust of a pick), Odrick (injured first year, some flashes last year, so jury is till out), and Pouncey (a Center was only needed because Ireland created the hole in the first place).

The guy creates holes and then somehow gets credit when he attempts to fill them a year later because people forget that he created the hole in the first place. Next year, he'll draft a WR or CB first round and many will say, "Great pick! That was a needed position!"

To me, we simply traded our 2009 1st round pick for a 2013 2nd round pick. Add in the fact that we now have a backfield led by Miss Sean Smith. Color me impressed.

All you fans do is complain.... We are obviously in rebuilding mode.... Now we got a **** ton of picks and a **** ton of money next year.

It seems to me people are upset about the "talent" given up but not for nothing the Dolphins were losing with Vontae i am sure as hell positive they can lose without him. For all his pedigree he never played up to his potential and while that may change it wasn't going to happen in Miami, he obviously did not respect the organization or his own talent to show up to camp a fat lazy load. He was being outplayed by every other CB in camp so what are they really losing? A soft nickel? You can get a flood of those for depth after all the waivers are made. The value is what happens next
