MERGED: Dolphins trade Vontae to Colts

No one on this site can come up with a good reason why we traded Vontae and Marshall for just picks, picks that are absolutely useless to us since Ireland sucks at drafting. No one.

If we're not getting an established player already for these players or first round picks then it's a bad trade.

Stupid, just absolutely stupid. Can't wait for what bust we draft with that pick.

even if they flip this pick for wallace, which isnt likely to happen. we will be paying a higher draft pick than we got for marshall and would still be an extreme downgrade at wr. retarded. i hate rebuilding over and over with the same crappy GM.

i cant wait to trade Long for a third rounder. or better yet not resign him and let him walk.

The people in charge of the team value picks over established players. Ireland doesn't have any self awareness on his 2nd round drafting ineptitude. If he did, I would think he would be going for a player. Wanny traded our picks for vets like it was going out of style. I think that was the beginning of the end for us. Of course, I doubt he could have done anything with the picks either. I think he was more inept than Ireland.

I don' understand at all... it's not like we have great depth at Corner. Vontae is an idiot but he's also 24, so much potential still. It's like the Brandon Marshall trade, now that he's gone all we do is talk about how bad our WR's are. Now in the pass happy NFL we don't want corners? I just don't understand, this team frustrates me to no end.

I agree with this:

I admit it I was wrong. I didn't think this was possible. I guess no one other than Tannehill is safe.

Given that Ireland's goal with this trade is to get us the first pick in next year's draft, I wouldn't say Tannehill is safe either.

Tight end, receiver, a guard. Those are our needs. Could we not get Reggie Wayne and a third round pick for Vontae at least?

I mean what the ****, why are we collecting draft picks when Ireland has shown to replace guys like Marshall for Egnew? Just retarded, retarded.

How about trade Vontae to Green Bay for Jones and a 4th round pick? They need help on their secondary. What are we doing?

Lol, I don't disagree. I don't know their thought process, I can only speculate. I would imagine that they feel Wayne is too old. I don't know the situation with Jones, is he on the trade block? Maybe the price is too high, or GB doesn't want Vontae. We're getting rid of him for a reason. Hopefully we aren't done. Hopefully, he will package some picks together to get a YOUNG and TALENTED receiver from another team. That's a lot of hoping though. Don't forget, Ireland THINKS he does a good job with the draft. He has to have self-awareness, or someone else (Ross) needs to realize he's not cutting it and find someone else. I HOPE this draft definitively determines his fate. One way or another. I don't have a problem if they keep him around, but that better come with bringing in talented players through the draft.

For me, this whole season is about Ryan Tannehill. If Tannehill proves without question that he's the franchise quarterback we've lacked since Marino retired, the whole dynamic for this team changes. The draft for example, won't be all about finding a QB for the first time in a long time. We can actually start building a team from the foundation up, using a hammer and nails instead of Elmers glue. I've rooted for the Fins to win for the last 40 years, and I'll do the same this year, but I won't be gut punched if they don't. If they felt trading Davis was the best move going forward I'm fine with it. If any other player doesn't want to get in step with the new coaching staff they can show them the door as well.

Everyone has a right to their opinion but the fact remains that Vontae was an Average at best cornerback with a ton of potential and physical capabilities. He has NEVER shown his "Pro Bowl Potential" consistently. Flashes of greatness combined with getting burnt up and down the field every season don't = pro bowl. Besides it's Philbins team and if he wasn't buying into the program and was lazy and immature that's probably why he hasn't reached his potential. I for 1 think its a good trade IF the Phins turn it into a playmaker via Trade. Ireland has been suspect at best with his 2nd round picks but you don't turn away the value based on his past drafts. That 2nd and the extra 3rd bring great value for him or whomever the GM is next year. Plenty of options to draft 2 players in round 1.

This season feels already like a wash and I won't be surprise if we see more players worth 10 cents out the door too, basically Ireland wants to get high draft picks in the next NFL draft.
