MERGED: Dustin Keller Injury Thread

Have you ever seen that exact injury happen the exact way it did and it not be a torn ligament? If so, please let us know. Every time I've ever seem that, with a player reacting like that...torn ligament. By the end of the game Philbin seemed to know what was up, as did all the players who spoke.

It could be a dislocated knee cap, it could be a 2nd degree sprain, torn meniscus, severe knee contusion . . it's probably a better chance that its a torn MCL than an ACL . . . all I'm saying is we don't know what the injury is, and speculation is premature at this point.

Look, I'm not going into my memory bank to figure out if I've seen an injury and it not be a torn ligament . . . I can tell by Keller's reaction that he was upset about the whole thing and that leads people to fear the worse and you know he very well could be done for the year . . . but it's not gospel until we get an official word on the injury.

I hope your right. I think that the dreaded knee ligament injury is one of those things that trainers and even the player knows right away when it happens what it is. The subsequent MRI is just to see how extensive the damage is. But again, I absolutely hope that it's not that. All the math, to me, adds up to equal a knee ligament being torn.

I'm confident that it's a bad injury . . . shouting out things like ACL (which requires a significant amount of rehabilitation) is premature. If it is, it is.

Even if it is an ACL tear, I remember reading something not so long ago that new technology is limiting the downtime of players with ACL tears.

Pretty sure we're allowed to speculate. That's one of the nastiest-looking knee injuries I've ever seen. I'd wager that all three of the major ligaments in his knee are torn.

Sucks.

ESPN provides zero information.

Going to commercial break on Sportscenter they said game highlights were going up and "a player is carted off the field". They show the game highlights and no mention of Kellar, the injury or what happened.

Thanks.

ha ha. that is bad.

I'm sure this has been asked already, and I probably missed it, but can someone tell me what the salary cap ramifications are if Keller is put on IR for the rest of the year?

Meaning, if Keller is making $4m this year, and he is out for the year, would the Fins be allowed to spend another $4m against the salary cap, to try and go out and get another player or two? Or, do salary cap money spent for guys on IR count the same as salary spent to guys on the active roster?

If Keller is put on IR, his entire base salary counts against our cap number.

Okay can we stop with the starters shouldn't have been out there stuff. Keller could have been injured on the first play of the game. Regardless of when it happened it happened. If Keller had gotten injured earlier he would still be injured. Player run the risk of injury on every play not just the ones that happen in the second quarter.

My knee did that exact same thing in High School wrestling...popped back in when I let pressure off it, continued wrestling. That was 27 years ago, never had a problem with that knee since. I hope Dustin's as lucky.
