Merged: Feeley the man

I haven't seen the game, but whilst 16/20 looks good, the 4.5 yards per pass attempt is not impressive...

Im drunk, but looking at the stats Feeley outplayed Frerotte tonight. 16 for 20 are pretty good numbers. I forget what Frerotte's numbers were but they were not good. So, I dont care what you say, Frerotte should not have the lead as of yet. The decision shouldnt be decided yet
you lost me with "Im drunk"

the coaches make the call, not Feeley. If Frerotte can play down field is beacuse the coach made the call and viceversa. Feele is more accurate and also his got a better arm then Gus, but if the coaches do not allow him to play the long ball, is not his fault.

Guys, Frerotte played against the Steelers first-team D (the one that was the best in the league last year), and he had 4-5 dropped passes from his receivers.

Feeley played against the 3rd string Pitt D, AND the playcalling was drastically different - all quick dumps and outs. look at the yardage on those plays - 3 yards, 4 yards, 4 yards... they were all garbage plays that we called b/c the Pitt DBs were playing off us 5 yards. not hardly showing a "great QB" at all.

The frerotte fumble that stung was the fumble for TD, but that was a HUGE collapse by the o-line and no one seemed to block anybody. the same would have happened to feeley.

This game did nothing to sway the QB batle in either direction guys...

Wow second team wasnt good enough for your argument? You had to make it 3rd? Maybe mid 4th they had some third? Feeley was also playing with the second and THIRd o-lines. Funny many said Gus should start because of his work against Backups vs Chicago. That was teh only game Gus looked decent.

3-4 dropped balls? Yeah Felley had a couple as well. One drop by McMike was on Gus, he threw it behind McMike. he also threw 18 passes, add three he is 10 of 18, better but not great. Also two of teh drops were the 4 to 5 yd variety, not balls that led to scores. Gus was very inaccurate AGAIN.

Also regardless of what defense was in, the thing that I was impressed with in AJ was he showed poise under pressure, lost the deer in the headlights looked, found his second and third options and didnt force teh ball. He was accurate as well.

Make any excuse you want AJ looked better than Gus. Does that mean he overtakes Gus? No. But if he outplays Gus next week by this margin, I think it opens teh door to the possibility. The key is how does Gus respond next week.

I totally agree with you, but I believe that Gus is here to start, Gus is Linehan choice, good or bad, personally I think is a very bad choice, considering that Gus had not learn the system even if he did spend 2 or 3 years with Linehan. Feeley however he needs to get more reps, with the first team for him to get comfortable in this offense.

conviently leave out the fact that Gus avg 4.8 yds as well. But hey dont let facts get in teh way.

he deserves a shot at #1 because Gus didn't prove to anyone he's the guy. Gus may have an awareness of the offense ahead of AJ, however, I don't think he has the arm to stretch the field. If we could combine Feely's arm and Gus' mind, maybe we'd be ok. this week's of practice is very critical and next week's game is more crucial. of course, the OL makes these guys run for their lives. That's two straight years we haven't really addressed this line in full:shakeno:
did you see that 3 yard bomb he threw?

its obvious now that out "guy" is swimming in the college pool right now...i hope whoever that is is ready to step into this organization and take over

Will AJ Feeley ever be good enough to lead a team to the Super Bowl?

No, so then why are we wasting our time with him if that's why they play the game?

Man the hypocrisy is very thick on this board. Gus plays better than AJ in teh Chicago game because he dinks and dunks his way down teh field after play calling was changed because of pressure and what was said? Gus managed teh game betetr and made good decisions.

Gus Frerrotte isnt good enough to lead us to teh super bowl either. hey based on your argument we should start Ronnie at qb and ricky at tb so we have capable guys on teh field. Dumbest argument ever. Feeley is playing better than Gus but start Gus because AJ isnt taking us to teh super bowl. If AJ plays better, how does that translate into Gus being able to lead us to teh super bowl?

I am not saying that AJ should take the lead in teh qb comp yet. I just am tired of teh hypocrisy, it is so thick, I cant see in front of my face.

ferotte is our starter plain and simple. we cant be switching qb's every week.

Isn't that what the pre-season is all about?

I could have sworn that is when you tinker with who starts and who does not.

to be fair Feeley hasnt proven hes the guy either

That's why we need to have Saban plan for his next starting QB in the draft next year....we don't have him on the team yet

I don't think you'll see Feeley start the rest of the way...here is a quote from Saban after the game last night...the way I read the quote it almost seems like it was pulling teeth to get him to sat A.J. played well..he had to set it up with "they're not playing against the same players"...

''The difficult thing is that it seems whoever plays second plays best but they're not playing against the same players either,'' Saban said. ``You almost have to evaluate how they play when they start. But A.J. did play well in this game.''
Feeley was the starter in Chicago, vs a good defense and play pretty good, I dont see how people think that Gus is better, this guy is been in this System for sometime and I dont see a clear separation between the two QBs. The edge that Gus got over Feeley is Linehan.

The thought with Frerotte was that he was a veteran who knew the system and could come in and run an efficient offense. As I'm watching him this morning, he looks worse than the stats I saw prior to the game.

Some of these dropped balls people were using in his defense, were bad throws.

Feeley has a better arm, and if the theory is that Gus knows the system and therefore has the advantage, then Feeley is going to be getting more acclimated with it and at least gives us hope that he will be getting better.
