MERGED: Gus Frerotte

Had he lead the reciever like AJ would have it would have been an INT you are a blind homer, watch some film and see that he had to adjust and throw it behind to avoid an int.

How nice to call names . I am not blind that is just the way I saw it and gave my opinion. And no unlike you I am no homer. I want the best guy to start. Do i have a preference as to who i would like to see start of course. But that does not mean I will root for whoever does start.
Like I said I will give trust Saban to start a guy. as long as he knows when its time to yank the chain and give the next guy the shot.

What game were you watching? Ferotte was on fire! He will be our starter, no question.............

Impressive. So you don't think the coaches need to use the 4 games remaining to make a decision on the starting QB?

Again, imrpessive.

i dont understand why everyone says they dont like Gus... for what reason? The only reason i ever hear is that he is "old". Give me a break. I personally dont care who wins the QB position as long as they win games. And according to tonight, it looks like Gus may be able to do that. Granted he is with the second team etc. so i really cant see much until he starts this weekends game at Jacksonville but so far, i give it to Gus. And until someone gives me a LEGITIMATE reason for disliking the guy... i like him.

:missmeth:

I agree 100%!!!!! Who cares who you root for? I just want to win!!! I hate Law but I know we could have used him! I dislike alot of players, but if they could help us win.......SWEEEEET!

I think everybody hates Gus b/c of the head butt! Other than that whathas the guy done wrong?

Gus played much better than AJ.....I just think AJ panics and has that deer in the headlights look....but none of our QBs was great...too many mistakes and penalties.

Here is a good thing.

Without being biased or without the blinders some people have on.

Both QB'S looked solid tonight.

I am a huge Feeley supporter.

Now to the question. Now honestly think about this. I know it's dificult to play the what if game. BUt how much better was Gus tonight if Thompson makes that perfectly thrown pass? All of Feeleys throws were right on the money. The one throw to Chambers in double coverage was his only bad attempt.

Feeley definitely looks 10 times more accurate then Frerotte.

Now on to Frerotte. He definitely looks more comfortable in the offense. Conversely. How much better will some of you be saying that Gus was Had Chambers not been able to adjust and catch the horribly underthrown deep ball that had been thrown on target could have went the distance? How much better is Gus if Gilmore doesn't doesn't make the amazing catch on another poorly thrown ball from Frerotte.

Now before some of you bash what I am saying here is my point. The only reason GUS LOOked better is because the WR'S made adjustments or amazing catches. Feeley WR'S didn't have to make great catches or adjust because he was right on the money. He had bad luck on that Thompson catch.

With that said, I would say they both looked solid. You can't look at just the stats u gotta look at the game.

It is very clear Feeley is way more accurate and has the better arm. However, right now Gus is more comfortable and is better at checking off.

They both looked solid tonight period. Not outstanding but solid.

How do you know it wasn't a wrong route? Just a question. The receiver should have adjusted earlier, I saw the ball going to the outside more, that is where a veteran wr makes that adjusment away from the D and to the big hole in the corner of the endzone. Heck who really knows?

gus went against 2nd stringers which made him look good.

aj went againsti 1st stringers and the OLINE sucked ***.

Did gus make blocking adjustments that Feeley did not call?

The truth is I saw Gus move to avoid being hit. That is the truth. He moves well in the pocket. Moving in the pocket is what can make a ok line look great. Ask Marino!

Actaully if you read the post game report Gus said that that TD pass wasnt even supposed to go to Gilmore, the ball slipped out of his hands and wound upo there.

Hey I do not think Feeley looked bad just that Gus looked better. Pocket movement was nice for Gus. Ibelieve that Gus is better b/c of experience. I am concerned w/ Feeley's durability. He hurt his but or hip last year too. Just a concern, I like the heart he showed last year!!

gus will be the starter vs the broncos on 911!!!!!!!!!!!!!! god bless america!

Gus looked a tad better than Feeley tonight, but I am so sick and tired of both qb's so evenly matched. I just want one guy to step up and put some distance between him and the other guy. I want a clear winner. I don't care who it is.

I am in no way a Feeley hater but IMO he seriously lacks the instincts and mechanics to be a good NFL QB. Feeley has very good arm strength (unfortunately thats the only positive) but he doesn't have leadership skill and his mechanics are ugly. He has very poor pocket presence and bad footwork in avoiding the rush, resetting his feet and squaring up his shoulders (and no, I am not making this evaluation just of off tonights performance). He has a slow and poor delivery (almost sidearm at times). Also a good QB gives no indication where they're going to throw the ball by glancing to different parts of the field (different from checking off recievers) and even though it may not even be a play-action pass, a quick head swivel to the RB (like every QB did tonight besides Feeley) can keep the safetys from back pedeling immediately after the snap. Feeley might as well point out his primary reciever like a classic Babe Ruth homerun.

Anyways it was great to see the Dolphins back in action tonight. Although there was nothing special about the play calling (offense or defense), it seems Saban simply wanted to evaluate player performance and not give any new looks for other teams to scope out. I thought many players gave a great effort in trying to leave a good impression. Boston looked solid, Walker seemed to always make the first guy miss, and I thought we did an excellent job on special teams coverages.

u ARE right. In the end, none of us truly know as of yet whether it was a bad throw or a wrong route.

However I will say this, had Chambers adjusted sooner and gone to the outside it most likely would have ben an INT. He was completely smothered. Or atleast an INC IMO.

Listen I am a firm believer that if a WR makes a great catch u can't say the QB got lucky. It's part of the game.

Gus looked solid IMO. However, so did Feeley. I was simply pointing out that if Gilmore doesn't make that catch, which even Gus said wasn't meant for him then Frerottes performance wasn't much better.

To me it looked as though Gus got lucky where Feeley didn't.

Feeley looks to have better accuracy, stronger arm. Where as Gus is more comfortable and fluid.

So right now it is a dead heat.

Err. I didn't mean to say Guys got lucky where Feeley didn't. Meant to say what went in Gus's favor didn't go in Feeley's favor.

I like Aj but I reluctantly agree he panics to easily. He telegraphs his passes and tries to throw to Derrius Thompson in clutch times. The babe ruth analogy is dead on as bad as that stings.

More than anything else, I think that Gus sees the field much better than AJ. Seeing the field is a very difficult skill to teach if it doesnt come naturally to a QB. While Im sure Feely can improve in this area with some more experience, I think its something that Gus does more innately. I remember thinking the same thing about him when he was with the Redskins. Heath Shuler had a better arm and better measurables, but Ferotte was a much, much better QB.

What I saw from Gus tonight was very encouraging. Fact is, I cant remember the last time our offense drove 80 yards in a preseason game. He withstood interior pocket pressure. He threw to second and third receivers. He bought time by moving around the pocket. And maybe most importantly, he made a few third down conversions look relatively routine to keep the drive alive. This has long been one of our biggest stumbling blocks.

I am firmly backing him to win the starting job.
