Merged: Jason Cole: "Ricky will return.."/If Ricky comes back, he's here to stay?

I think wayne will step up to the plate and have some sort of deal with ricky that if he plays for x amount of years, then the 8.6 million dollar thing is wiped out. One more thing, why does a multibillionaire need 8.6 million back?

principle my friend, principle

You may be right, it could be wishful thinking, but I could go on as to how it could happen.

Did you mind trading a 3rd for Gordon last year out of desperation?

I didn't think it was a good deal but I understood the desperation. All of the RBs were hurt and the practice squad was being signed up.

Gordon is also not not on the verge of a one year banishment for another failed drug test nor does he have a history of quiting, but I could also go on about what could happen. :)

-The money. We all know he needs to pay back Miami for the money they gave him. This would be his opportunity. This would also be his opportunity to make the slate clean. This would be his pennance. It always seemed, or at least he stated, money wasnt his driving force, if he would just accept a modest contract and work to payoff the rest, Miami would be the perfect fit for him.

Good post Skape, but your point above is crucial, he'd have to renegotiate his contract to be worth keeping. He makes too much to be a backup RB.

Also, as appealing as it is to have both ROnnie and Ricky in the backfield to put added pressure on the defense, I"M REALLY AGAINST IT. I think lining ROnnie up as a fullback can only shorten his career, he's our future, Ricky is not. Ricky will eventually self destruct, but maybe we can get 2 years out of him. Now, I can see us lining up in a pro-set with the both of them, but just don't want Ronnie blocking all the time, be a waste of a 2 pick.

Are you nuts?
Ricky is still one of the better running backs in the NFL, don't worry about trust that's why they brought in Ronnie Brown.
The fins would be lethal in that division, won't have to worry about ints in close games.
Please bring him back nick.

If you release some of those has beens that we do have you could fit ricky in on the roster. Come on nick you can do it.

I don't know how it really works but I thought that the 8.5 million signing bonus and such only needs to be paid back if he continues his retirement. Once he is on the roster and plays in a game I think this debt is cancelled.....He does not need to "pay back" the money, if he plays, it REMAINS his........
He then quits the day before game two?
we don't need this traitor back !

The thing is, if he gets another suspension, or decides to retire again, it wouldnt be the lethal blow that is was in 2004. You see, Saban has a backup plan. He isnt pinning all his hopes on Ricky Williams. Ricky Williams would just be the icing on the cake. If Ricky flakes out again, we have Ronnie. Ricky will NEVER have the impact he had on this team ever again.. that responsibility of carrying the team on his back will not be his, and I do not believe that is something he ever even wanted.

People say he cant be trusted, but he CAN be trusted on the field.. On the field, he was a beast. Relentless. People say he showed signs of not giving his all in 2003. I dont believe that. I think shying away from tacklers he tried earlier in the year wasnt cowardice, but rather a new type of running he was experimenting with like he stated at the time. He was trying to be more of the elusive type back, rather than the power runner he was known to be, somewhat to save his own body, but also because he felt he had some success with that in 2002 once he slimmed down.

Ricky on the field is a warrior.. Ricky off the field is a scared child.. Thats why he needs a strong mentor figure like Saban.

Anyway, I dont believe Ricky will play more than 4 years regardless.. My guess would be 3 years. but if he can give 3 more good years to the Dolphins, the chances are, one of those years will be a Championship year.
Well said!

It's not going to be wiped away, because that's the only leverage that the fins have.

My only concern is the media frenzy. If things don't go well, the media will harp on the Ricky situation all the time. I think the players will accept him back or he wouldn't even consider coming back.

This is not a "Ricky Post" this a report from a "respected" journalist from the Miami Herald.

:roflmao: There is no such thing as "a respected journalist from the Miami Herald"...:D

i think i see the problem here. Alot of you fans think we drafted Ronnie Brown to be "the man", "the main back", "ricky's replacement" etc.. Ronnie brown was drafted to be more of a role player type back than "the man". If we were looking to draft "the man" . We would have drafted cedric benson. That being said, Ronnie will still be a great back at what he does. He will cause numerous missmatches as a receiver out of the backfield. He will still run the ball with power and speed. Using him as a compliment rather than the man will make him that much more effective. example: ronnie lines up as fb for ricky, then is motioned out to the line as a wr. He is going to cause alot of problems and saban knows this from experience. If you guys put the real reason for him being drafted by us in prospective you will see what a real genius saban really is. :)

The team was not guaranteed a more solid player when they traded Surtain, but they got a player of need.

Roper is a running back, a pounding running back who wanted the ball at least 25 times a game, and he got his wish!! So it's not at all about WANNY, it's about being someone who smoked weed, got caught, refused to stop, got caught two more times, and said F-it, I quit.

You apparently have the bosses fooled....... ;)

The one..and ONLY..reason we got rid of Surtain was because he counted over $8million verse the cap. This is in no way comparable to the RW situation here.

After reading the remainder of this thread, I must say I think the "Training Camp Reporter" is a bit loyal to the old Wanny regime for some reason...

well............I don't know how convinced I am.

If rumors are true, he's lost 30 pounds and hasn't played in a year. If he's to do anything this year, he better stop smoking and start working out. Today.
