MERGED: Jeff Ireland involved in verbal altercation with fan on Sunday

I heard that guy on the radio. He called in and verified what happened. He sounded like an intelligent guy, and he even said that he would have responded the same way if someone had told him he should "fire himself." I think Ireland handled it OK. Probably could have left out the A-hole part, but I don't think the average person would have done it much different.

Then he should have acted like a professional, called security and have that fan be escorted out of the stadium. Pretty sure the security would have listened to the GM of the Dolphins.

He didn't look straight at the guy and call him an *******, he turned around and said it under his breath. Which kind of stuff that is hard to hear if you're sitting in normal office let alone a boisterous sports stadium.

If someone did this to YOU, you do the EXACT same thing.

This is a total bogus which hunt story.

Realistically, if this is true, I dont see why Ireland should get any flack for it. The guy was being an a-hole and deserved to be called one. The guy was the antagonist and thus Ireland shouldnt be scorned in any way. If the tables were turned and Ireland was the antagonist, sure, flame him out, but in this scenario, its undeserved.

Fans berate players all the time and if a player says something back he is usually criticized. Front office people should be held to the same standard. Im, however, not surprised Ireland couldn't handle an obnoxious fan. Doesn't surprise me at all Ireland couldn't just ignore him

The part that smells like BS to me is when other fans called in after Sean and described incidents where fans were trailing and heckling Ireland and he got mad and told them that if they keep it up he'll have them all kicked out, and then almost got into a fight with another fan.

I very much doubt that happened.

But the incident with Sean probably happened. I know people get on him for acting like a douche or whatever but honestly I don't mind that. The guy's a season ticket holder being sold a product and he gave some feedback about that product to the guy selling it to him. BFD. From what I've heard the guy Sean didn't just drunkenly slur out you should fire yourself, he actually argued and expressed his displeasure over certain moves Ireland has made.

I don't have a problem with Jeff Ireland's response, but I know this...the everyone made a BFD when Rex Ryan essentially did the SAME THING to heckling Dol-Fans, getting caught on camera flipping the bird at them. Ryan was at a concert with his brother as I recall, just trying to enjoy the show. Because of that photo he had to apologize publicly and he even had to pay a fine to the NFL for his conduct. And I know some of these same people defending Ireland's calling the guy an a-hole were probably critical of Rex Ryan for what he did.

I'm consistent. I have no problem with either incident. I thought Rex Ryan was well within his rights and I think Ireland was as well.

first. No proof. could be yet another person in this world looking to get some attention. second, if true jeff should've had this asshat escorted out of the stadium. because that didn't happen, i'm more inclined to go with number 1.

Exactly. Many of the same people who are lauding ireland for firing back at a fan were all over Ryan for doing the same. Their perspective entirely depends on what uniform someone's wearing.

Really? Last I checked, they had an 8-8 record last year. Correct me if I'm wrong...but wasn't that better than us?

World beaters. I'm not saying the Dolphins are any much better than them, but I'd rather save the chest bumping for when they actually beat a good team.

Not really a big deal. It seemed like a bigger deal when I first heard about it. I'm not a fan of Ireland, but that fan is a douche.
