Merged: Manning to Meet With Miami Coach Joe Philbin

Philbin is a very smart man, well spoken, good manners. Manning will get along well with him. Not to mention, offensive minded!

Joe is our ACE right now. If he can't get him here than manning never wanted to be here. End of story.

I am glad we at least have this, but, somehow, this almost feels like a "pity" meeting. I sure hope not and that he goes into it with an open mind because I know Joe will win him over like he has us. If Peyton chooses someone else after he meets Joe, I can almost bet it won't be because of something Joe does or doesn't say to him.

I agree. Feels like a meeting out of respect.

He's going to Denver, imo.

Come on Philbin get it done! but why wont he meet with Ross/Ireland

Probably because Peyton looking for straight talk, not wine and dine. Only Philbin can answer detailed questions about team infrastructure. All coaches that report to Philben will implement his philosphy. Peyton wants to know how will you protect me from the next concussion.

Come on Philbin get it done! but why wont he meet with Ross/Ireland

Im going with the thought that he has already spoken to both Ross and Ireland before about it and wants to talk to Philbin...with Arizona and Denver he did the whole thing because he wasnt familiar with team headquarters and stadiums...He knows Miami and the Titans pretty well...

All this says to me is that we're definitely not signing Flynn tomorrow afternoon and there's a good chance he'll be gone by the time Manning makes a decision....looks like we're putting all our eggs in one basket.

Come on Philbin get it done! but why wont he meet with Ross/Ireland

Because they are both clowns and give us no shot at all at landing him. Philbin is classy and intelligent, two qualities the other two are lacking.

I'm hoping they're finally starting to realize this.

Ireland is a good talent evaluator, Ross has the cash, those are the things they should stick too, not trying to woo free agents like PM.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports free agent Peyton Manning will meet with Dolphins coach Joe Philbin and Titans coach Mike Munchak within the next three days.

So much for that quick decision. Unlike the visits to Denver and Arizona, the meetings with Philbin and Munchak will take place away from team headquarters. Leaving the front offices out of the picture suggests the conversation with both coaches will be limited strictly to football so Manning can determine whether there is a sensible fit.

They hired Philbin as their football guy let him work it.

Honestly, going forward, Philbin should be the only guy the Dolphins send out to talk with other football guys, because its obvious Ross and Ireland don't have the tact to speak with other football people. I am glad Philbin is the man being presented as the face of the Dolphins to Manning.

Doesn't anyone else find this odd. Manning does full scale visits with Denver and AZ. Yet the Phins (and Titans) just get to have their coach meet with him offsite? Philbin is a rookie head coach. Munchuk (sp?) is a second year coach. I mention this because Fox and Whisenhunt have been coaching for many years.

I think 4 things may be happening:
1. these are pity meetings designed to drive up price for Den/AZ
OR
2. we have already had detailed phone calls with manning and this is a get comfortable with Philbin meeting
OR
3. Manning was not completely convinced by either visit and wants to see other orgs but is tired of the circus surrounding his visits
OR
4. Manning has no idea where he wants to play!
