MERGED:The Truth About Culpeper\Culpepper without Moss

All these smug assertions of "I'll Pass" and "What has he done without Moss" need to go away.

Why do they need to go away?? They are valid points and need to be discussed when evaluating his worth. It's like ignoring Jay Fiedlers accuracy because he has heart!!! You're setting yourself up for disappointment. Besides it's more then just that, it's also his HUGE knee injury,his off the field issues and most importantly his cost. If you put all that together thats a lot to bring with you as a possible candidate. Too many other options out there to stress over him IMO.

Let's take Daunte Culpepper's 2004 numbers and treat EVERY reception by Moss as an incompletion. In other words, let's remove Moss' 49 receptions, his yards and his 13 TDs and pretend they were all incompletions. How would Culpepper have fared?

* 330 completions
* 548 attempts
* 60.2% completion
* 3950 yards
* 7.2 YPA
* 26 TD passes
* 11 Ints
* 406 yards rushing
* 2 rush TDs

the real question here is what will Culpepper do with Chris Chambers, and possibly even TO...Last yr's minnesota team had nate burleson as the # 1

Did anyone actually watch Culpepper this last season.
He sucked.
I happen to remember a FEW different games where he threw for 5 picks.
Getting injured and tearing every ligament in his knee was the best thing that happened to him.
The Vikes can rot with culpepper.
did anyone notice, that when brad johnson came in to take over....
the VIKES WON 6 straight..
somethings not right.
F a culpepper.

for a 2nd rounder i would do it.....this guy's talent can't be questioned....question if carson plamer were available for a 2nd rounder would you do it???? his knee injury was alot worse than culpepper's and it happened later

i personally don't think it will happen bc i think saban is the type of guy that wants to bring on his own qb....he wants to guy to either succeed or fail bc of him....his choice...his responsibility

He isnt like Vick... his game doesnt revolve around his running ability... he is a pass first QB that only ran when things broke down...

And if McGahee can come back and be able to play running back... Culpepper can come back and play QB where you dont need to rely on your knee NEAR as much as you do as a RB...

I was preaching these things all last night...........glad to see someone else with some sense around here. :D

did you watch Culpepper at all in '03 or '04??? Good idea to completely disregard 30 games of work in favor of 7. BTW - he still through for 64% and over 7 ypa last year......the INT's were the only bad stat.

I keep hearing Dante Did nothing without Moss, and he was only good because of Moss. Well What did Moss do this year without Dante? Are you going to tell me they are both overrated?

Moss is not the free agent who is on the move, Culpeppers is.

Moss is a Raider and is not a free agent. Who cares if he is overrated or not. He would take both safeties with him every time he ran down the field and open up all the routes underneath and the running game as well.

How many of those huge runs did Culpeper have once Randy left?

Randy even made Jeff George look phenomenal...

No, but ONE good year does not constitute a great QB. I prefer to see some consistency before I bank my team's future on a veteran QB.

He's had a lot more than 1 good year.

2000 QB Rating of 98, with 4400 total yards and 40 total TDs.
2003 QB Rating of 96.4 with 3900 total yards and 29 total TDs in 14 games
2004 QB Rating of 111 with 5100 total yards and 41 total TDs.

Even in 2002, his only subpar year before last year (and he really only played badly in the first 2 games last year with a new OC, new line, new receivers, loss of starting center, etc.), when you take into account his rushing numbers, he had almost 4500 total yards and 28 total TDs.

How many great seasons does a 28 year old QB have to have before you'd bank your future on him? I assume that means you'd never bank your future on a rookie QB who has proven absolutley nothing in the NFL.

If he can be had for a 2nd rounder, it is a no-brainer decision. How many multiple Pro Bowl QBs have ever been traded before the age of 30, let alone for a mid second round pick?

At least take a minute to look at his numbers last year before claiming that you remember a few 5 INT games. He only had one. He only had 2 bad games -- the first two of the year. After that, his QB rating was again over 90.
