Merged:When and HOW did you become a FinFan?

I was 5 back in 1970 and I was just beginning to watch football....All my family(7) except one (Vikes) , were Foreskin fans. I was on and off again football watcher..We mostly got Browns and Bengals games back then...I was leaning towards one of those teams when the Phins played one Sunday...I loved the uniforms, the mascot, and palm trees at one end of the stadium...Hey, remember I was 5.... I was able to watch the beginnings of the dyansty form....

I was 14 when they announced that a professional football team in the American Football League was being franchised in Miami by Joe Robbie, Danny Thomas, and a bunch of people whose names I forget now. Listened to them on radio when they weren't on TV - including the opening game of the opening season. Remember coach and QB son - the George Wilsons - Sr. and Jr. The celebration when we drafted Bob Griese. Wondered why Joe Theisman went to Canada. Csonka - 'nuff said. Geisler, Evans, Little, Moore, Langer, Kuchenberg, Jake Scott, Vern DenHerder, Bill Stanfill, MAnny Fernandez, Buonoconti, and a whole bunch of names all jumbed together in a mental rolodex with it's cards all jumbled up. Just about died when Zonk, Kiick, and Warfield jumped ship. Knew it was too soon when Benny Malone scored on Oakland - was desolated when that quacking pass was caught by Clarence in the end zone. Loved Pat Fisher's 'arm tackle' of Zonk, AJ's celebration of the pick six against the Jets, the Hook and Lateral against San Diego, Offerdahl stuffing Okoye backward in the hole at KC, almost anything Marino threw, and Nat's helicopter. There has been precious little to come to mind recently - except the hiring of Nick Saban. Here's to 2005 (lift's cup of coffee - it's too rippin' early on a Saturday AM.) Precious memories, how they linger.

Thanks for the stroll back in history.........

1971, Christmas Day. The Longest Day still in NFL history. Garo hit the field goal to send Miami onto Super Bowl 7. We lost, but the character the team showed in that Christmas Day game made me fall in love.

The following year, I was into each game. I watched Shula intensely over the years and committed his philosophy of the Winning Edge to my personal life. His philosophy of persistance, determination and preparation have been a foundation for success for me. I mirrored Csonka's style of running through or around any obstacles. It's been a part of my life because it's been a part of who I am. That's what makes people in sports truly heros.

You can only imagine how damn difficult it has been this past year. Wanny was clearlly the wrong way to go from the very start. However, we may look back as seeing the past 5 years as a the only way we would have found Saban who will bring us back to the glory.

I have an uncle that used to live next door to Don Shula. When I was 5 my uncle arranged for Mr. Shula to take me to camp with him which he did. As I got older I realized the training camp I attended was the year Miami beat Minnesota in SB 8. I have been hooked ever since.

I dont know, i've been told by my parents that my mother watched a Dolphins game with me when I was 3 days old so I guess Its because my first game I saw was when the fins shut out Kansas City 31-0.

First Football game I remember was a NE vs Fins game where the fins won.

My mother tried desperatly to make me a Jets fan and my Dad a skins fan, thankfully neither was able to.

I become a fin fan in the late 80's playing of all things techmo bowl. Where I come from at the time everyone around seemed to be Raider, Bill, and 49er Fan. So on my quest to find a new team to play with started watching fotball and feel in love watching Marino, Duper and Clayton. It is all history from there. Not to mention I was born in 72. It was meant to be.

This is a GREAT question!!

I'm not quite sure of the year, but it was the longest game in football. My family and I were watching the Dolphins vs the Chiefs on Christmas day, and well, you know what happened!! My father was so excited the Dolphins won, he jumped in the pool. I thought to myself, "Hmmm.... This must be a great game for my father to do such a thing!!" hehehe!! It was from then on in, I started watching all the games and learning about football. I was about 12 at the time. This is when the Dolphins had the perfect sense!! Those were wonderful memories!!

I tell people that it was because the AFL awarded Joe Robbie a team in 1965, which happens to be the year I was born, and that the team will begin playing in 1966. I think the truth is that when your a little kid, you cheer for teams that are winning and back when I was 5/6/7 years old, the Dolphins were winning championships. I also fell in love with the colors and logo. I've had my chances in the past to change teams, thru family, but there was no way I was going to. I remember losing to the Raiders in the 1974 playoffs, I went out and took a pipe wrench to my wagon. I was 9 at the time of that little wagon beating. Anyway, that's my short story.

9 years old - watching the Chargers/Fins playoff game (81, I think) the hook and ladder play got me "hooked" on the Fins.

I lived in Miami when the dolphins came into existance...I was there from the start although I was only 6 at the time !!! I remember going to one of their 1st games.

My dad had them as his favorite team and Spent most of his life down there working on skyscrapers and was a master chef then I was born in Key West Florida then we moved to cape cod Massachusetts where the Patriots are home to but My dad and I still routed for Miami Then sadly a few years ago He passed away and I carried on the Dolphin Pride I now have a son who is 5 and Loves the dolphins and Its nice to see the Dolphins and Hammond (My last name lol) Stay together. R.I.P. Dad
