Yea this would not be good...If a long holdout is expected then pass rusher would be an even bigger priority.
 
We need to resign him or trade him. Letting him play the rest of the year under a one year deal is a bad idea.
 
Oh my god pay the man. We've already lost 2 pro bowl players this offseason.

From what i understand, they had begun to talk about resigning him, Long, and Hartline. Problem is: we have no cap.

So while we would actually free up some cap with resigning Long we would not free up cap if we resign Wake(any of the finheaven cap guys correct me if im wrong, i have no idea what the actual numbers would be). Wake has been asking for a contract extension for 2 years(after he hit the 10 sack mark is when his agent starting talking to Ireland). Last season he agreed to put it off until this season. Now the front office is stringing him along.

This is unfortunate but i cant blame Wake for this. He's been patient. And, unlike some of the others on the team, i know he will be in shape when he returns to practice.
 
Contract disputes never end well, especially with Jeff Ireland.
 
Not a surprise. He is a pro bowl type player only making 615K. He is not going to risk the millions he deserves on 615K.

He will get a big contract and is first priority to resign. OF course there is no cap to sign him so you wont see him till after the draft and after some cuts are made. Someone will need to be cut or restructured to sign Wake. It wont be Long restructuring as he will increase the cap.

We wont be able to sign anyone else either till this gets resolved. Fasano is making too much and McDaniel is making too much. Just wait and see. We wont win too many games without Wake.
 
Just pay the man. I remember hearing rumblings about an extension but a MAX contract would be tough right now.
 
so ireland is ok with resigning scrubs like merling and mertha and the signing acorns like hicks but he is not willing to give one is most important players a new contact? come on man get the deal done!
 
Can't believe it took this long....just goes to show what a great all around guy Wake is...He should be making $10 a year....
 
This is also an unfortunate side of getting rid of Y Bell IMO. Cutting arguably the most respected player on the team because he makes too much $, will push the "this is a business" ideology into the forefront of player's minds, and this is what you'll get. "After all Y Bell has given to this team and they could cut him after free agency begins, screw this team, I'm gonna get mine!"
