Merged X3: The Official Julius Peppers Thread

Because he's a 30 year old DE who's never played OLB before and wants 20 mil a year? yea, makes a lot of sense to me, no thanks to Peppers.

Some times when I am on this site I can not get Katt Williams bit on "haters" out of my head. http://www.youtube.com/watch#v=ZxxPLDZnqwA&feature=related

How could it possibly be bad to bring in Peppers? He is a game changeing DE. I am not even sure if there are 5 other DEs in the entire NFL that have the ability to change a game like Peppers has. He averages 10 sacks, almost 4 forced fumbles, 5 pass deflects at the line, and an INT, per season. He is a more physical Jason Taylor in his prime. Since his rookie season he has only missed two games. If we could somehow sign this man there would be no down side. With Nolan as his coach I would bet he would have a revival in Miami, and probably do what Porter did last season, and lead the NFL in sacks. Not to mention every team we play has to game plan for him. If you do not double him he will single handedly win the game. With JT and Wake rushing from the other side he would help them combine for at least 15 sacks. This is a no brainer and anyone on this forum who does not think he is worth signing you need to go to the DR because you have a brain damage.

All we have to do is cut Porter and Jason Allen and we would have the money to throw at him. If we bring in Peppers and either Dansby or Rolle this defense would be 300% better than last year.
Right, a game changing DE. Newsflash, we run a 3-4. Paying a 30 year old DE 20 mil a year to convert to OLB is arguably the stupidest possible move we can make in FA.

He may want 20 Mill a year but he will never get that he will most likly get around 10 mil a year

Out of all the moves to make in free agency this is the last thing we need to do. Sure I don't want to see him end up in New England, or with the Jets, but our defense has way bigger needs! NT, FS, ILB then OLB.

Miami won't have to give up draft picks to sign the guy. If Peppers is signed, he'll hold down that spot for 3 years with Pro Bowl production.

We have to get younger and better at LBer.....paying a 30 yr 10-15 million a yr on a 6-7 yr contract defeats that goal. I would love Peppers, but at the right price.....this will be his last big contract so he will not settle for less, and i dont blame him.

I say we get him, hey, the year is uncapped and at worst, we get an aaron kampman.

If the year were capped i'd say no way!! but its not so..

Feasible to sign Peppers and Dansby?
Priority-wise.... Signing Dansby is crucial to our defense. Lost count on how many times our starting ILB's last year were pancake blocked, or run over. If Miami does not land Dansby, Miami cannot draft a safety like Thomas...He would have alot of tackling to do and would probably put on IR midway through the season.

Signing Peppers would be deja vu (ie. Joey Porter). One good year out of him, maybe and that's it. I think some people on this board have unrealistic expectations. Parcells and company were supposed to take over a 1-15 team and take them to the Super Bowl in two years??? This team is right on track to be a force in this league year in and year out.

That 3-2 is going to have problems versus the run:ponder:

It's all about the pass.

The 3-2 is clearly the superior defense to the 0-1 or the -3 and +4 with the DBLMLB lineing up in the "David" position and the WILBMOLB occasionally shifting to the "Bauer" position.

Dont sign him. I read article stating someone form Panthers believes that once signed long term with gaurenteed money, that he would not see another double digit sack season!
