Merged X5: The Official Anquan Boldin Thread

Okay,its nearing official....I guess...

http://www.nflgridirongab.com/2010/02/11/dolphins-with-their-eyes-on-cardinals-wr-anquan-boldin/

While trades cannot be made until after the new football year starts, on March 5th, according to ESPN Insider, the Dolphins are preparing to offer a 3rd rounder to the Arizona Cardinals for receiver Anquan Boldin. The Cardinals are also reportedly interested in Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter.

Only giving up a 3rd round pick for Boldin would be a great bargin, and would set up a huge draft day for the Dolphins.

There would no longer be any need to go after a wide receiver in the first three rounds. There would be no need to target Dez Bryant in the first round instead of going after a linebacker.

Eliminating the need for a true #1 receiver would allow the Dolphins to go after some of their other needs such as a linebacker, or a nose tackle.

:bobdole: Sure instead of using a 3rd to get a #1 WR , we go and get a real injury prone WR who is barely (if he can even be considered #1) #1 material. Bryant had 600 yards in 13 games and 11 starts, Boldin had over 1,000 in 15 . Lets get real now.

People are worried about our 3rd round pick way to much. Of course its the same people that always go with the "dont trade picks build through the draft" Sure dont trade your 1st rounder or a 2nd if your drafting earlier in the round, but a 3rd?

Anyone who wouldnt trade a 3rd for Boldin needs to look up his stats and injury history. He isnt that bad health wise and his stats make Antonio Bryants look childish. He is one of the best blocking WR's in the league and gets us the YAC we desperatley need.

Of course we could save our 3rd and get a nice new WR to sit on the bench all of next year.

If we want to speed up the process get a Boldin for a 3rd. We have proven to be able to develop a possession receiver in Bess. We now need a proven one. Boldin is worth it. He is the big dependable target we need. I would have no issue with Bryant either. But between the two a nod to Boldin.

The problem with giving up picks is there are to many holes that need fixing on the defensive side of the ball. Start with the LB Corps. Wake will replace Porter but JT needs to be replaced as well. As much as everyone complains that Porter's lack of production, JT's production was lower yet he gets a pass. Why? Because he is a legend in S. Fla. Reality is that JT needs to be replaced. I forsee at least one pick being used here. ILB is a priority and I wouldn't be surprised if they sign one via free agency and draft one. They have to find a free safety. We can't go through another season ranked #1 in giving up big plays. Can't. Not if we want to compete. Clemens is not the answer there. He's a SS. NT is huge. We don't even know if Fergie will be back. Soliai is not the answer. He is a back up.

Bryant is not comparable to Boldin but he doesn't cost us anything and is better then any receiver we have. Rounds 1-3 you can count on impact players something that is sorely needed on the defensive side. The offense performed alright last season. Needs a playmaker but not at the cost of plugging holes on a terrible defense.

I would love to have Boldin, but for nothing more then a 4th and a player.

I want this done. Pleasssse Parcells get out of your shell! Stud receivers ARE important. Boldin is a SICK player. This is the exact type of phyical beast of a Wide Receiver that we need. The guy DESTROYS DB's.

Trade for him, give a him a nice big contract -- And watch him go to work!

Henne to Boldin on a 5 yard out, Boldin turns it into a 30 yard gain for a TD. Man, I'm hyped now.

Let's go!!

1. Boldin
2. Hartline
3. Bess

Not a bad WR group.

And instead of getting Bryant at 1 or Demaryius Thomas at 2 we can now invest both of those pics for Defense.

Stop being in denial, man. You know that it will be #1 Boldin, #2 Ginn (to stretch field and also return kicks), #3 Bess (slot), and #4 Hartline who will probably play all 3 positions and STs, where he was a beast.

But agree totally on the draft part. Either NT at #12 and SOLB at #43 or an SOLB at #12 and NT at #43. :hi5:

I know most of yall absolutely hate Ted Ginn... but lets be real... we would be dumb not to have him on the other side of Boldin... Ginn is one of the fastest WR's in the game and can stretch the field as well as anyone... Im not sitting here trying to defend Ginn because I know he's not that great of of a wr, but if we get Boldin, watch out. Ginn will do nothing but improve from the day he walks in. Keep in mind, Ginn has never had anywhere close to a legitimate receiver to guide him or teach him anything. One of the knocks on Ginn is his lack of physicality.... what would help him more than to bring in one of the most physical receivers in the game to teach him how to really play wr.

I really dont understand how some people cant be atleast a little optimistic with Boldin doin what he does, Ginn stretching the field (and defense), bess/ hartline doin work underneath.... and with our running game????? You thought Mark Sanchez benefited from play action... wait until Henne gets his shot...

Case in point.... Boldin coming to Miami would be a HUGE HUGE HUGE benefit to every single person on that offense... especially Ted Ginn

So, soooooo very true..

Man, you hit it right on the money. If this goes down the people that benefit on the team is a lot. I don't bash Ginn nor have I defended him but when you step back and look at the potential there with Boldin and the rest of our WRs, then this offense has the ability to earn a lot of respect for being dangerous.

One thing too that would make this good if it happens right away is the extra time he would have to get insync with Henne and our other WRs. Man, I hope this goes down. Would love to go into the draft having a pro bowler as a WR.

For the record, I like the idea of adding a #1 WR through trade/FA, Im not so sure Boldin is the guy I would trade for.

However for the naysayers regarding trading picks for veterans, I understand the value of draft picks but I must say if an organiation is willing to spend(waste) a 2nd pick on Pat White, then I cant have a problam with them sending a 3rd or 4th rnd pick for a proven commodity.

Will this happen? I dont know, but Im ok with the risk/reward hoenstly if I knew they were going to draft a Jason Taylor or Zach Thomas with one of those 3rd or 4rth rnd picks I'd be inclined to say NO to trading that pick, but if its gonna be a Pat White or Patrick Turner then fine trade away.

In theory it SHOULD help. Some pressure taken off his should that he has to be the man to get open. What Boldin can't help him with (unless he is a good player instructor and leader to Ginn) is toughness and the ability to go after the ball with authority when challenged by a defender. If he can help Ginn leading by example with catching in practice then great. Ginn's main problems won't be helped by the presence of just one more receiver. He may get open more but from what we have seen they may not be enough if he doesn't catch the ball. Or, when he does high tail to the sideline at the first opportune moment.

porter, cobbs, and a 6th round pick for boldin and a 4th round pick? fair trade off for both teams and miami would greatly gain from it.

My guess is IF it happens, it'll be Porter and a 3rd. We won't know until at least March 5th though, so at this point it's too early too tell.
